yeah i read it all the way through. it’s definitely not romanticized. it’s not like bella swan and edward cullen, where the framing of his stalking is “so alluring and romantic”. not like that at all. it’s more on par with VC Andrews’ books...the abuse in those stories are also horrific and not romanticized. it’s just documentation of horrific events in a fictional story, playing out those fictional events in the content whether it’s written or drawn is not romanticizing them.

I think a lot of ppl mistake a character reacting to abuse in a realistic way with the narrative romanticising abuse. Which is extremely concerning but not at all surprising when it comes to how many people view the behaviour of victims. The response to abuse will not always be logical to people on the outside, the response may even be "positive". That's just the way abuse fucks with u, and I still maintain killing stalking is one of the more honest portrayals of the experience of being abused that I've seen. It isnt sanitised, it isnt idealised.

I saw that video and the romantization the youtuber talks about is the one that, according to him, happens in the fandom. Or at least the portion of fandom he has seen on Tiktok, which assumes is a fair representation. He doesn't really have an issue with the story, he recognize it as a psychological horror one that is well writen and yada yada. He is fine with it since he did read it entirely by himself.

But since it's a horror story, the fact that some of us ship the main characters and some even lust over the Drawn Specifically To Be Attractive Sangwoo is a sign that "something is wrong with you, and something is wrong with society" (his exact words, the condescending fuck). Like he sounds as if he never heard the concept of shipping or transformative fandom at all, never heard the concept of BL stories containing horror too, and instead of thinking maybe he is missing something important, he determines we are all wrong, he is right and we harm survivors, fetishize gay relationships and also we are all too young to know any better.

Because God forbid some of us shipper could be survivors, gay or older enough to see the story as it is and decide "yeah, I still like the concept of these two characters together."

Don't get it twisted: this is a run of the mil anti fujoshi video with the exact same arguments and reasoning we have heard since KS started trending here on Tumblr, but presented as if it were new and progressive. His entire comment section is whinning about the fandom too.

Since that shitty video came out, another called "Fujoshi culture needs to stop" came out that had KS on the thumbnail too so there is probably going to be more.

Without that relationship there would be no KS; the series ends. So of course a lot of the fandom shipped it? We wanted to see where this psychological thriller would go next? Like how, y'know, plots in stories with suspense work?

I really, really hate how people have decided that because they engage with fandom in certain ways, that must be how we're all engaging. Shipping is not endorsement. Shipping is not a statement of "this is a helathy relationship dynamic". Shipping is thinking about how a dynamic (usually romantic/sexual) will play out and wanting to explore that. That's it.

Seeing people losing their shit at the possibility of considering Killing Stalking a BoyLove story or not is so fucking funny, and also makes me grateful that some of the most fucked up stories that I enjoy haven’t reach mainstream media because I don’t want to have to argue that no, just because that other fucked up story is ALSO BoyLove doesn’t mean that it “romanticize” abuse either. Like, the fact this shit is always coming from people who barely shit all about the genre at all is literally no surprise. You can go to literally any site of BL works and somewhere you are going to find a story even worse than KS (and this goes for hentai/yuri too), but just because KS became popular enough SUDDENLY a bunch of westeners get to define an eastern work on their standards just because they don’t like it otherwise. Also, can I say I am also super peeved with people thinking they are doing anything by “criticizing” the fandom that literally have only seen from the outside, as if that fandom wasn’t the one who supported Koogi from the very start, wasn’t the one defending the work when everyone here was calling it homophobic for the audacity of portraying non straight characters in less than the most perfect light, the one who saw you all putting it on the list of “blacklist media” on your DNIs and kept yelling at fans for liking a post, the one that told off other people from harassing Koogi and always treated the work and her with the upmost respect. If you don’t include those people, their feelings, their thought and what they did, then you know jackshit about the fandom either.
