break ups suck but have you ever found out that someone you love has secretly been maintaining a list of everything you do that's been bothering them for years

today, april 11th, is the anniversary of Mel Baggs' death. Mel Baggs was one of the early founders of the neurodiversity movement and believed that no one was too disabled for human rights, something that modern nd movements fail to understand to this day. sie was so instrumental to my understanding of literally everything. sie died from medical ableism and neglect during the beginning of the pandemic. we would be nowhere fucking near where we are now without hir. i've decided to make a masterlist of some of my favorite posts of hirs, organized into different categories.
(some of these are listed in more than one category because they overlap so much)
here are some of the "essentials" (what you might have already read by hir/should read first):

Sucks when you like lose your teeth in a dream and youβre like βFuck I cannot believe this is happening in real life and not in a dream. My teeth are really gone now, no takebacks.β
hate how all these apocalyptic films show society breaking down the hot minute the grid goes down, with all the survivors banding off into tiny violent gangs that prey on each other.
bitch you are a member of one of the most social species in existence! it is actually insane the extent to which humans have evolved to use cooperation as our main survival tool. humans have been building and then rebuilding societies for as long as disasters have been bringing them down. an apocalypse would be fucking awful, but the survivors would end up building communities and networks and pooling resources and knowledge, because thatβs what humans do. thatβs what they DO!!!
#3 million years ago our ancestors put all of their skill points into charisma and tool use and weβve been winging it ever sinceΒ Β tags via OP
This reminds me of a really great video by Sarah Zedig where the second half is her going off on apocalyptic, grimdark shows such as The Walking Dead as a βlibertarian power fantasy where their dogshit ideology is never wrongβ and Iβve never forgotten it.
At its core, the edgelord trope that society would βbreak downβ into violence the instant the cops stop answering the phones is a myth built on cynical belief that humans are - at their core - violent, selfish, cruel animals that are only kept in line with the violent enforcement of βlaw and order.β
Hell, itβs a myth built atop another myth that the police - the legitimate purveyors of state violence - are even competent at all!
Considering their abysmal track record for actually solving crimes and observed reluctance to put themselves in harmβs way, thereβs hardly a case to be made that they are actively keeping society from descending into chaos. And if you think thatβs woke anti-police nonsense, bear in mind that once, when the cops in New York did a work βslowdownβ, crime went down.
Because see, thereβs a second half to the apocalyptic βbreakdown of societyβ myth, the one that appeals to a certain group of people. Itβs the part where, now that society has become the State of Nature, the truly strong, independent, well-armed men of action have carte blanche to βrestore orderβ with brutal, justified violence.
Apocalyptic movies are a popular genre because it takes the standard Hollywood power fantasy and gives it an adrenaline shot of compatible politics: libertarian, every man for himself, Γbermensch crap. As it depicts the end of the world, with all the pornographic spectacle of chaos and human cruelty, it tells its audience that you wonβt succumb when the rest those dumb, weak masses perish. Whether itβs zombies, plague, climate disaster, or solar flares making our cellphones stop working, you specifically (yes you, Kyle!) will rise above it.
And when it does, the strong and rugged will survive and start over. Make things how they βused to be.β Presumably a nice, pure, uncomplicated world suspiciously absent of all those βweakβ folks that had been muddying the waters and getting in the way, before. The ones that had prevented the naturally strong men from reaching their true potential in the Old World.
To the people that truly buy into this garbage power fantasy, the inevitable apocalyptic collapse isnβt something to be feared, but prepared for.
Theyβre looking forward to it.

Christmas fact: βfancy Santaβ figurines are not artistic license, but rather, representations of Santa Clausβ rarely used βpowered upβ form.
Pictured: Santaβs βSuper Santa Level 2β³ transformation
Is this the form he used in the Krampus arc?
No, Super Santa Level 2 wasnβt introduced until the King Grinch arc. He mostly relied on the Holiday Spirit technique when fighting Krampus:
(The Holiday Spirit technique was later retired due to the toll it took on his body, though it makes a brief reappearance during his battle with the Tooth Fairy in the 1997 OAV.)
I was blown away by the manga-only Cosmic Santa form he attained during the final battle with Jack Frost:
Seeing him tap into the Christmas wishes of all the worldβs children to power up his Silver Jolly Happy Soul Rod Attack really made me tear up.
Iβve always wondered whether his Cosmic Form is REALLY all white or if thatβs just because the mangaβs black & white. Sure, thereβs the cover of volume 17 that shows it as white, but it also shows Mrs. Clausβs ceremonial Christmas Eve gown as pure white when we KNOW thatβs not true:
And the elves get a white variation of their uniform on that cover too? So I donβt think we can count the cover as strictly canon. I keep hoping we get an OVA remake of the Jack Frost arc that actually follows the manga so we can see Cosmic Form in action. Maybe if the fighting game sells well and shows thereβs still an audience for classic manga?
