False. Unoriginal. Boring. Jews are good at math because so much of our lives requires math. A non exhaustive list of things that require math in Judaism that isn't counting money:

-Machzor Math- calculating how many more pages and time there is left in High Holiday services

-Batul B'Shishim- calculating how much is less than a 60th for the case of food contamination that could affect it's Kosher status

-Intercalating the Calendar and determining the Zmanim- thankfully this one was already done for us, but someone did it a long time ago to calculate when our leap years are, how long each month is, and what the halachic times of each day are

-Gematria- the numerical value of different words which is used in all sorts of esoteric practice and understanding

-Fasting math- calculating how much time is left in a fast

-Kashrut math- calculating how much time is left until one can eat meat or dairy

-Candle math- calculating how many candles one needs for their household for Chanukah, especially if there are more than one menorah

-Wine and matzah math- calculating how much wine and matzah one needs to buy for their Seder. We go through a lot.

Bonus, one that actually involves money but isn't the tired "Jews are greedy":

-Figuring out a good multiple of 18 to give as a monetary gift to someone

you have to consciously unlearn racism and continue to watch for it because it will come out without realizing. because so much of society is structured around it. shrugging and going "i dont care" or "i dont know how else to say it" means you are okay with being racist and hurting other people with how much you dont give a shit about them.

the reason dog whistles are effective is that on the surface they are plausibly innocent. in fact, many people who adopt the language are genuinely ignorant of the secret meaning.

which is to say, if you say or write something that you thought was fine and normal. then a marginalized person in the notes goes HEY WTF. pause and listen. it's (usually) not a personal attack, it's someone saying "hey! you harmed me!!". Instead of answering "no I didn't and how dare you call me racist", try "huh? I don't want to hurt people, can you expain?"

I have lost count of the people who have used antisemitic dog whistles, and when I approach them politely, instantly double down and in the process call me a hypersentive lying zio manipulator etc.

Toothpaste companies must really hate people who are allergic to mint toothpaste, which a lot of people are! Apparently it's NOT supposed to burn like minty hellfire? (I'm fine with mint candy, it's only mint toothpaste that hurts)

I've been using Tom's fennel for years, but am now trying to find one with fluoride in it, and finding a toothpaste that is no mint and yes fluoride should not be such a huge and infuriating quest. still got some more grocery stores to search, but not even the children's toothpaste in the nearest one had any that were suitable.

It is, I am told, supposed to "tingle a little bit", which is NOT what it's doing for me. It feels like the minty version of eating a painfully spicy hot pepper, and sticks around for a long time afterwards just like hot peppers do, and it wouldn't make sense to do that on purpose in a thing you're supposed to use before trying to go to sleep.

Thank you to all the suggestions in the comments! Sadly I have seen none of them in grocery stores so far, but it's good to know there are options if I end up having to order toothpaste online.

I'm astounded that it's so hard to find non-mint options, because there are SO MANY comments already on this post from people who can't stand mint, and don't these companies do market research?? hello? huge untapped market for non-mint adult toothpaste here?? There must be thousands upon thousands of adults who use children's toothpaste because of it. If I saw an advertisement that started off with someone complaining about mint toothpaste, it would catch my attention.

Hey friends, just so you know you can absolutely use children's toothpaste with fluoride as an adult and there are many flavors like bubblegum and strawberry and grape (here's Tom's of Maine with a fluoride-containing mango and orange toothpaste). Using children's toothpaste with fluoride is much, much better than using a fluoride-free toothpaste. If you're looking for toothpaste with an adult amount of fluoride and the mint ones bother you, try looking for cinnamon toothpaste - a lot of the grownup non-mint flavors don't have fluoride but cinnamon ones often do.

i have fibromyalgia (and lots of other shit) and without my pain medication my pain is so bad i need to use a wheelchair, and even then only for short periods of time because sitting gets very uncomfortable too

the problem is one of my pain meds (the one with the more immediate effects and much shorter half life) is fucking $2 per capsule, and i take it twice a day. shit racks up, especially since insurance won't cover it because it's a specialty medication

i recently discovered this same medication is available for $1 per capsule on chewy, which would more than half this monthly expense. the bad news is chewy will only send medications to pets. the good news is i'm a puppydog with my own collar and everything and tons of people at the bar the other day said im a really good dog and

Yom Kippur False Alarm

So, a few years ago, Yom Kippur was coming up and I really needed to ask forgiveness of a Gentile friend who I had failed a couple times that year, and even though the friend hadn’t mentioned it, it had been eating at me. This friend didn’t really know anything about Judaism.

So I contacted him, by email, (we were in different countries at this time) and I said “I know that I failed you with [thing], and I just want to say how sorry I am. I will try to fix it in the future. If I have done anything else that may have harmed you at any time in the past, knowingly or unknowingly, I am truly sorry. I ask that you will forgive me. I hope that you will accept my apology. Please let me know before 3 days from now.”

My friend promptly responded with the following: “Are you dying????”

The Moral of the Story: explain what Yom Kippur is to your gentile friends.
