I doubt this will get much traction on here, but Puerto Rico’s governor has just passed Código Civil (Civil Code) that has loopholes regarding women’s and LGBT+ rights. This code was passed despite activists’ call for a veto, and was intentionally speedily passed so that public hearings would not take place

In a nutshell, women’s bodily autonomy has the potential to be restricted which can take away their right to abortions, and the discrimination bans against the LGBT+ community are able to be overridden. 

5 trans people have died violently in Puerto Rico since the beginning of 2020. 

I ask my followers and mutuals to please reblog. There is so much going on in America today and this is one thing to add. There are protests for #BlackLivesMatter in Puerto Rico and a significant black community there. As an Afro Latina and a member of the LGBT community, I ask you to spread this and help.

Biden personally wrote the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994 (better known as the Biden Crime Law), which he bragged about on the Senate floor like so: “It provides 53 death-penalty offenses… We do everything but hang people for jaywalking in this bill“

The bill authorized the hiring of 100,000 more police officers across the US, allocated tons of money for building new prisons, introduced the “three-strikes” rule for repeat offenders, specifically prohibited inmates from qualifying for Pell Grants, introduced many mandatory minimum sentences, and offered increased prison funding to states that provide “sufficiently severe punishment“ for violent offenders (explicitly “including violent juvenile offenders“) and ensured that all convicts serve at least 85% of their initial conviction - among other things

Biden was all but the face for “tough on crime” in the Senate at the time, and has played a massive hand in the modern state of the police and prison system even outside of this one piece of legislation. He still stands by the bill to this day, and he very recently stated he doesn’t intend to take any steps to defund the police

Don’t count on Biden to fix this shit. He isn’t going to. If we want change, we’re gonna have to find it elsewhere

I 100% agree with EVERYTHING Laura Bailey says here, just keep in mind VA's rarely get anything more than a name & a vague outline of the character & their arc before they're asked to do the V.O recording. Images of character art are usually done after.

There was actually a strike a few years ago when VO artists wanted to know more about the characters they were voicing to avoid exactly this sort of situation. They did not win that demand.

i dont understand why you wouldn’t tell the VA’s more about who they’re voicing if you want the best possible voice acting for your characters, like, everybody loses.

They don’t tell VA’s about the characters they’re voicing so they can avoid giving them a fair deal on their pay.

At one point - I’ll see if i can find the video - Marisha Ray talked about being booked for a session and her agent negotiating blind for what seemed like a pretty good amount. Marisha went in and found out that she was voicing random storm troopers in Star Wars Battlefront and that what had seemed like a fair deal turned out to be them almost completely ripping her off.  That’s one example of them not paying.

Another reason I’ve heard is so the actor isn’t really given a chance to say no to the gig without having to break a contract that they’d made before hand.

Actors and Actresses have been booked for gigs where they end up voicing prostitutes, racists, etc without being told prior to stepping into the booth. 

This is the case for relatively big voice actors who are well-known and regarded in the industry. I can’t imagine how much more this happens for lesser known VO’s.

Yeah voice actors are sometimes dropped into roles such as “beloved character we’ve recast because we fired the original actor, the fans will be furious and send you hateful messages, but not us because we’re not big on social media, so have fun!” or “here do some stunts for mocap with insufficient padding and no safety coordinator on set, and you have no health insurance!” or “famous character we’re way underpaying you for because you have no idea what franchise this is for.”     

They were also striking to spread out screaming sessions so they didn’t scream for hours at a time until their throats bled. 

Screen actors have pretty bad protections at best but voice actors have even less than that. The more things blend, the more advanced video games get, the more important this is.

most cities are either going back to “normal” (re-opening business, public transportation, parks/beaches) or, like são paulo and rio, they never went fully quarantined. those are also the most dense cities in brazil, and… the cities with the most cases. not to mention that brazil is one of the countries that is doing the least amount of tests in the population. so, 600k is not even half of it.

we are reaching 30 days without a health minister because the last two were fired directly by the president, when they were doing according to what the world health org said.

On twitter I’m seeing dozens of threads from Black activists warning people against burnout, giving all sorts of useful tips about preventing and managing it for the sake of a long-term, sustainable effort.

On tumblr I’m seeing a hell of a lot of young white kids yelling at anyone who actually follows those steps, and acting like burnout is a moral falling rather than a well-proven psychological phenomenon.

Be careful who you get your information from. Don’t let guilt lead you to make choices that will harm both you and the movement.
