I think one of the funniest abortion stances I've heard was from my parents neighbor. He's a like, hard-core libertarian viking larper guy who is very tall and very fat and very bald.

He believes a fetus is human with a soul, but also its "basically attacking the woman's body" so if she wants to get rid of it, that's "basically self-defense". He compared it to shooting a home invader. So he supports abortion not as healthcare, but as killing a baby in self-defense

My stepmother did NOT like the way her Libertarian Viking Neighbor framed pregnancy as the fetus "attacking the woman". She incredulously told him this was extremely disrespectful to expectant mothers to portray pregnancy as so violent and negative.

Libertarian Viking Neighbor's response was that people consensually hurt each other all the time, and "there's like a whole community about that, with the acronym the one that starts with a B" And his reasoning was that if the mother was consenting to bring attacked by the baby, it in fact wasn't violent and negative because there was consent.

He brought up people consensually hurting each other, didn't go for one of the obvious answers like boxing or body mods or something, no he went STRAIGHT TO BDSM and he DIDN'T EVEN REMEMBER THE ACRONYM

such an egregious thing about the pjo tv show is that they are destroying its heart to make it more marketable to mass audiences by erasing the diversity embedded within the text.(yes they added poc into the cast which I'm thankful for but the show removed everything else!!)

pjo was initially written for minorities and children ostracised by society,demonstrated clearly by our protagonist being a neurodivergent working class domestic abuse survivor who sucks at school and doesn't fit in. rick initially made this story for his son, who also struggled from his neurodivergency and made this unconventional protagonist the hero of his story to show that despite your barriers, you can be a hero too. like even the damn greek mythology aspect was used as a vehicle for including representation. the demigod experience is an explicit allegory to the neurodivergent experience, it's inexplicably woven into the very worldbuilding. The show prides itself on having soo much discourse and speeches about how being a demigod alienates you from the Mortal world (esp annabeth), but it blatantly fails to expand upon the reason behind it because they didnt add the neurodivergency aspect !!! & instead making this false dichotomy of demigod vs. human !!!

this is the true essence of the books, & the tv show is meant to be the "books done better." so my question is, why does the show remove & ignore these values instead of exploring it??

percy's adhd is scarcely mentioned in s1 & it's nonexistent in s2. It's only brought up as a running gag, which is such an insult to his character since his discrimination and low self esteem comes from his ableist mistreatment cleverly contrasting how those same hindering symptoms aid him in battle, showing that your shortcomings are also what make you great. I don't think we even have acknowledged the fact that annabeth has dyslexia and adhd which is tremendously important since her character breaks the stereotype that all neurodivergent kids are "stupid", and she shows how neurodivergency has different presentations. tyson's bullying experience because the mist depicting him as having downs syndrome, is completely absent in the tv show, which makes no sense as tyson facing bigotry being a cyclops is a direct metaphor for the ableism he faces & don't get me started on how he's infantillised. percy and his domestic abuse are again completely absent in the show. there's this weak excuse that they didn't want to show anything too "outrageous" as it's a children's show, but "protecting the children" is a superficial, lazy excuse as it was even covert in the books. its important children learn about complex topics like abuse, & its SOO important for sally and percys character arcs which I could go on a whole yap abt but this is getting too long so i'll make another post abt it. percy's working class experience truly wasn't depicted sufficiently which again cuts out soo much of character as his class struggles compounds to the guilt he feels for burdening his mother & how he is further alienated from his middle class peers.

children aren't stupid. they can understand challenging subjects theres no need to sanitise a childrens book and belittle their intelligence. the books brought light so much awareness to different living situations and types of people it's a big selling point of the franchise so why are we missing out on all of this representation if this is such an accurate adaptation? who is this story written for if not for those marginalised children??

draw a still life. practice some poses. sketch some naked people. do a color study. try out a different technique on a basic shape.

art block doesnt stop you from drawing, it stops you from making your drawings look the way you want them to. and thats because you need to push your skills to the next level so you can preform at that standard

think of it as level grinding for your next work.

As a scientific illustrator- this is 100% true and going to review your basics will fix it every goddamn time.  Not only does it keep your skills sharp, when you’re not emotionally invested in the final product of a piece, you relax and your brain makes more/better art juice for you.  So, when you get back to that big/important piece?  You’ll know what to do and how to do it.

Write a description of an object. write the weather today. Write a made up characterization of a random photo of an actor from the internet as to the character they are in that picture. Write a little story about your pet’s day. Write about spilling soup and make it super dramatic and tragic. Write about someone’s day being ruined and make it funny. Write a meetcute coffeeshop AU of two OCs you’d never put together- maybe from different stories. Write them breaking up.

Write a bunch of short stuff meant for no audience ever and super duper self indulgent.

I found out relatively recently that it really helps if I write short fiction surrounding the novels I write. Like oh? I’m stuck for a bit? Ooh there was that section I wanted to explore but doesn’t fit in the plot really. There was that what-if that could never happen in the actual story but would be fun to explore. It keeps me in the characters’ headspace (tho that’s not always what I’m needing) but not right where they are exactly.

Yes! I have gotten past writers’ block multiple times by writing drabble collections. Making something coherent happen in just 100 words is a very different challenge from writing a long story and it also lets me get past plot points that I don’t want to explore in-depth.

i dont consider myself a 'fashion guru' by any means but one thing i will say is guys you dont need to know the specific brand an item you like is - you need to know what the item is called. very rarely does a brand matter, but knowing that pair of pants is called 'cargo' vs 'boot cut' or the names of dress styles is going to help you find clothes you like WAAAYYYY faster than brand shopping

additionally, shop second hand when you can, second hand and thrift sites typically organize clothes by the cut and color. theyll be more affordable than a depop seller curating you a style to sell you
