enrichment doesn’t have to be difficult/expensive/time consuming for most animals. usually you just need to find the right size of cardboard box

instagram dog influencers REALLY want you to know that their dog is high drive. they need you to know. they will post a picture of their dog in a birthday hat and the caption will say “my high drive dog turned 4 today 🥳”. a video of the dog munching on a treat that says “this is how my high drive dog eats a milkbone 😮”. we get it man
reblogging with this comment bc it made me cackle
I thought kind of stuff was to warn people they shouldn't rush out and get a dog like that without taking up too much time for social media?
In theory yes, but it’s also kind of spread so much that the descriptor has become totally useless as an identifier. When it’s on videos of dogs actually doing work or doing sports that require hours of training, you can tell that they mean it as shorthand for ‘I put a lot of work into my dog’. But when they put it on videos of their dogs at the park or the vet or just in their car, it’s totally meaningless. OR it becomes a way to excuse their dogs bad behaviour in a way that makes viewers feel like they don’t have enough experience with dogs to point out ‘hey maybe you should train them not to do that’

we took a trip to the great lakes recently! it was much too cold to swim (which is fine by anubis since he Hates waves) so we spent a lot of time doing this too
beach boy!! he was great at posing on this driftwood
Not the vibe I was expecting today but we'll take it
"but the standard doesn't call for full dentition" the standard doesnt specifically call for 4 legs either but usually that goes without saying

"my dog listens to me because he respects my authority as a leader" ok. my dog listens to me because she likes me ☺️
