Heyo! You can call me Varen, Spade, or Vigil! I’m 21 years old, I use she/him pronouns, and I’m aegosexual. Since this is a sideblog, I interact from @bleeding-heart-vigilante.
I’m a college student by day and a writer and maladaptive daydreamer by night. The Ember Blade Chronicles is my main paracosm (more on that further below), so it’s also the one I develop and talk about the most.

i was wondering, if u don't mind explaining, why Nevermore & Aerith had different last names? Did Nevermore change his last name when she ran away from home? Did she change it just cuz? Was it forced on him?? Or is it just because Aerith is a water elemental so she gets the last name "Lake" and Nevermore is a fire elemental and thus gets the last name "Grimes" lol (not judging that's 100% something I would do)

HAIIIIIIII, LUKA!!! Thank you for asking! I don’t mind explaining at all! (And never worry about coming off as judgy! As someone who grew up surrounded by judgmental ass people, you’re like the furthest from it in my eyes 🤣)
Nevermore was actually born “Nevermore Lake”, and yeah, he did change it when he ran away from home!

The name change wasn’t forced on her, she actually changed it as a way to force herself into feeling like “part of the family” (and also as a “fuck you” to her dad, who was absent during her childhood but would return as a villain during The Macbethian Saga)
But, Nevermore’s relationship with Kira and Alya never grew any less strained, and they would only continue to outright reject her when she returned to them (and were even mildly disgusted at the discovery of her name change *womp womp*)
That being said, neither last name really feels like it belongs to her, in that aspect at least. “Grimes” still goes hard as hell, though, so I don’t think he’s gonna drop it anytime soon. He’ll just have to steal it from his parents. 🤣
On the flip side, why didn’t Aerith change her last name? Simply because she wants to use it to do good. She saw this sort of mini self-resentment Nevermore grew from the burden of carrying their deadbeat dad’s last name and she thought to herself that she wanted to turn it into something good, and that she wouldn’t let that feeling consume her in the same way. Now, she’s the only “Lake” remaining, and Nevermore rather likes it that way (because she was always his favorite Lake 😌)

Nevermore: Maybe someone thought they could get away with playing with it. You know people and their weird obsessions with AI and Chat GP-Keys.
Robert: That’s Chat GPT.
Nevermore: Bobby, that literally makes no sense. They call it Chat GP-Keys because you type into it with keys. From a keyboard. What’s the “T” supposed to stand for? Titties? Sonar told me you can’t even see titties on Chat GP-Keys, it’s got a nudity filter.
Robert: *Too busy laughing to respond*
Nevermore: It’s stupid, anyways. The other day, one of the other dispatchers was telling me that it uses a lot of water and spits out wrong information anyways. And it’s expensive. I could do that shit for free!
Robert, teasing: Thank you for your services in keeping our branch AI-free.
Nevermore: Besides, there’s no way to say for sure that it was stolen. Those fuckass pigs probably lost it. Watch, tomorrow there’s gonna be a follow up report and they’re gonna be all like “Whoops! We were too busy pounding donuts and scratching our own asses to realize it fell under a desk! Our bad, guys!”
Robert: We really need to work on the way you talk about law enforcement. Specifically during work hours.
Nevermore: I’m convinced we’re the best law enforcement this place has got.
