A friendly reminder, according to the same inside sources that accurately leaked spoilers for Rise of Skywalker that the creative team and Terrio lobbied hard for happy endings for Ben and Rey. And George Lucas, in reshoots, shot a longer fight sequence in which Ben Solo fought and killed the Emperor to protect an unconscious Rey. Then, shot the Lars Homestead ending with Ben and Rey burying the lightsabers together.
Also a reminder that Kathleen Kennedy demanded that they kill Ben and that they use Lucas’s ending but edit Rey into the Resistance celebration and edit out Ben from the final shots. Stating that ‘her’ trilogy wouldn’t have a point if “The Villain” ended up being a hero and upstaging the main character.
Among the casualties is Rey cradling Ben’s body, afraid that he had been possessed by the Sith, but Ben explaining that the Emperor’s spirit could only be passed on if he was killed in hatred (as explained in the Novelization). But Ben killed him to protect her … because, he loves her. Thus, the smile and the kiss … and also why it looked like Rey and Ben are clearly talking in several shots despite the movie trying to portray that they’re staring quietly.
Ben cradling Rey and Rey cradling a “Dead” Ben Solo are two different shots from two completely different sequences that are spliced together very poorly and last minute. (I have the agreement of a professional editor whose looked at the tape and pointed ‘the breaks’ out.)
Also the final shot with BB-8 and Rey at the binary sunset is clearly a composite. BB-8 is added in, you can tell by the different textures. Also there’s a huge gap of uneven scenery where it looks that someone has been edited out standing next to Rey. I believe, that Ben, R2-D2 and C-3PO were in the final Lucas shot. And that they edited them out.
So, just a reminder, we didn’t get a happy ending, because, egotistical Studio Executives thought they knew better than the fans and, most insultingly, the fucking guy who created the entire universe.
