Book clubs are en vogue and let me tell you why - while also convincing you to start one of your own
"So, these are the biggest takeaways after being a member of 5 book clubs ( if I include my very first YA book club back home at my local Library).
It's a fantastic way to actually get to know people beyond the surface of small talk
It's some beautiful trauma bond only you, and the people who've read the book will understand the joy and humor this book gifted you - or why you will curse and loathe it forever.
It makes you a better writer. The group discussions, personal bias, etc, force you to understand how someone other than yourself engages with storytelling, characters, and more. You learn fast what the most common mistakes are in any genre....."
Third spaces have never been more important but finding cost friendly ones that enable us to create friendships built on shared interests are hard... this and more is covered in my post all about the rising popularity of bookclubs and why you should take note!

A little musing on the last month of summer.
"To me, August has always been deeply symbolic. While it has never been my favorite month, even as a small child, I could appreciate how August felt like no other month.
In some ways, it was a sad month, the last hurrah of summer, before all my friends returned to school while I would remain a free-range homeschooler. And more deeply felt was sadness because it was the end of Monsoon season, the scariest and best two weeks of the year. But there was also joy as the last summer sunshine returned, savoring it, knowing the leaves would change color, Halloween was coming, and most importantly, the return of snow. "
