it's kinda funny how despite france being one of the most famous countries in the west, there's still a relative aura of mystery surrounding its pop culture in the eyes of the non-francophone world simply due to french people not giving a damn about learning english. like so many anglophone people just have no idea what goes on here. it's sort of cool in a way bc it gives this impression of exclusivity when you learn enough french to understand the twitter memes. also i've said it before & i'll say it again, it's almost criminal how ignorant the wider world is of the diversity within the pop culture scene here, & i know that's partly the fault of those at the top who still insist on pushing this homogeneous image of the country from 60 years ago but like. if people can understand that london isn't actually comprised of 95% white english people then they can surely infer the same for paris (kanye west's clumsy attempts at raising awareness notwithstanding)
