An old woman sells strawberries in âGaza⏠. 2 February 2015
Those are the most beautiful strawberries I ever seen. Iâve reblogged them before, but I would be head over heels for a basket of strawberries like that.

memeception
WEâVE HIT TERMINAL MEME
@caesarianconfection
Iâve said âI hate thisâ so many times on this website, and never actually meant it, because âI hate thisâ is just shorthand for âthis is an example of a meme given a twist I wasnât expecting with intent to surpriseâ. Which is, in of itself, a meme on this site. God damn it.
But this⌠This is something else.
The rapidity of a memeâs introduction to its zenith to its decline is so rapid that in ten years, youâll need a damn twenty-page manual to explain this. Itâll be as unfunny and hard to explain as jokes in Shakespeare plays, except even more inexplicable because fuck, at least Shakespeareâs jokes are usually about anal or fucking your mother, good wholesome sex jokes we can all get behind.
For the love of fuck, how do you explain loss.jpg? How do you explain gun?
âŚ.I THOUGHT THIS WAS A YMCA REFERENCE
it is a YMCA reference - thatâs one of the 6 memes being represented here
ok let me see if i can break this down easily. YMCA is the easiest place to start - the song itself has become a meme over time with people changing the lyrics to reference other pop cultural events. so YMCA is meme one (1)
this first lyric replacement (âtake the breadsticks and runâ) is a reference to the tumblr meme âstuffing breadsticks into my purseâ. i think everyone remembers that one so i wont bother to explain it. thatâs meme two (2)
âman door hand hook car doorâ is a meme of its own, a creepypasta from i dont remember when. it was a terrible stupid retelling of the generic âstuck in a car while hook handed man tries to kill usâ story so the stupid title caught on for memorability. that in and of itself is meme three (3)
âgunâ is⌠yeah i dont know how to explain gun. long story short you add gun to the end of a phrase instead of what you expect the last word to be. its shock funny. its everywhere but its popular to add to âman door hand hook car doorâ for.. some reason? gun is meme four (4)
and the thing is, this four meme combo is something thats gone around before. meme combos are, itself, a meme. which means taking this meme combo and mixing in another meme actually becomes meme five (5)
which leaves us at loss.jpg. loss.jpg was a terrible bad comic supposed to be about some tragic event, but it was presented so poorly literally no one takes it seriously, and for some reason recreating the four-panel setup has become popular. so thats meme six (6)
(but i need to add that this is the greatest version of loss.jpg i think iâve ever seen. the initial âyoung manâ lines up with the guy bursting through the door, and the shock meme âgunâ matches the shock scene of the woman in the hospital and idk if OP even thought about that but it makes this just so much better)
I wasnât going to reblog this, but @pagesofkennaâs comprehensive meme-by-meme annotation is a thing of beauty and should be shared.
average tumblr post contains one meme, this post, which contains six, is an outlier and should not be counted
it might also just be a coincidence due to loss.jpgâs format but the whole white minimalist four-panel setup is also suspiciously reminiscent of those early 2000âs rage comics
I was getting a political compass vibe too
tag urself im man door hand hook car gun
This works better than I thought it would.
This was in my senior project

Can we take a moment to appreciate the fact that someone photoshopped a photo of the Ball Pit⢠from the DashCon fiasco into the mess that has been Fyre Festival and Cosmo magazine didnât get the reference.
the real takeaway from both fyre festival and the cask of amontillado is that you can lure rich people anywhere by promising them exclusive access to an expensive luxury
so i know that fyre festival is now mostly seen as funny meme of rich kids being scammed but please donât forget that billy mcfarland hired 200+ Bahamian locals to work grueling hours day and night on the island for weeks with completely unrealistic expectations for this festival and in the end abandoned the island and ran home without paying any of them
so in all seriousness, billy mcfarland is a monster and needs to likeâŚâŚbe in jail for longer than just six years
I periodically feel so fucking sad for women in history. I feel like birth control in countries where it is widely used has made women forget an aspect of male cruelty and sociopathy that is now less apparent (giving the illusion that men have improved when only womenâs defences against men have)âthe fact that for most of history men could live with a woman for decades and not care that they were slowly killing her with endless back-to-back pregnancies which not only resulted in early death more often than not, but also in a total smothering of the womanâs spirit and talents. I saw a quote by Anne Boyer the other day that called straight relationships for women ânot only deadly, but deadeningââas I was reading Jill Leporeâs Book of Ages, a biography of Benjamin Franklinâs sister Jane, who was bright and loved reading and wrote some poetry, but had little time to make anything of her life in between her 12 pregnancies. Benjamin Franklinâs mother had 10 sons and 7 daughters. What could they possibly accomplish when their husbands kept impregnating them year after year after year throughout their entire adult life?Â
Charlotte BrontĂŤ eschewed marriage longer than most (writing to Ellen Nussey that she wished they could just set up a little cottage and live together) but she finally married at 38, became pregnant, and died before her 39th birthday. If she had married younger would Jane Eyre exist? I was reading that biography of Charity & Sylvia last month and comparing their life together in their little cottage to the life of their married female relatives, which was honestly hell on earth. One of Charityâs sisters had 18 children. Charityâs mother had 10 living ones, and probably some additional stillbirths. She gave birth to her first child age 19, in 1758, then to a pair of twins in 1760, then another child in 1761, another in 1763, another in 1765, another in 1767, another in 1769, another in 1771, another in 1774, another in 1777. Charity was the last child and her mother had been sick with tuberculosis for months when she became pregnant with her, and she died soon after giving birth.
I wish people would call this murderâthis woman was murdered by her husband, like countless other women who do not âcountâ as victims of male violence because straight sex is natural, pregnancy is natural, childbirth is natural. But when after 20 years of nonstop pregnancies this woman had tuberculosis and suffered from severe respiratory distress, severe weight loss, fever and exhaustion, and her husband impregnated her again, her death was expected. He must have known; he just didnât care. This womanâs sisterâCharityâs auntâremained a spinster and outlived all of her married sisters by several decades, living well into her eighties. (Ironically, male doctors in her century asserted that sex with men was necessary for womenâs health. The biographer quoted from a popular home health guide which said that old maids incurred grievous physical harm from a lack of sex with men.) And this aunt had the time and liberty to develop her skill for embroidery to such an extent that two museums still preserve her embroidered bed drapes. She accomplished something, she nurtured her talent and self. Her name was also Charity, and I find it interesting that Charityâs mother named her last daughter, whose pregnancy & birth killed her, after her childless, unmarried sister.
When I see women reblog my post about Sophia Tolstoyâs misery with her 13 children, adding comments like âthank god marriage is no longer synonymous with thisâ, I wonder if they realise that men have not magically become any kinder or more concerned about their female partnerâs health and fulfillment, itâs just that women now have access to better ways of protecting themselves from their male partnerâs indifference to their health and fulfillment.
#i dont feel sad i feel fucking angry from @shamwowxlÂ
The stories of women in my family who were forced into lives they didnât want and didnât utilize their passions breaks my heart. My grandma wanted to be a journalist and write about the injustices she saw inflicted on disabled ppl while she was volunteering at a state run institution as a teen. Her father decided that she was âtoo fat and stupidâ for college and forced her to get married at 17 or else heâd make her homeless. As a kid she told me that she wished people believed that she had meaningful opinions on events around her. One of my great grandmothers wanted to be an artist but was pressured into marrying a man who beat her. She stayed up late each night when her children were in bed writing poetry and pasting it over elaborate collages she mad herself. We still have stacks of these notebooks she created but was never allowed to do anything with. My mother wanted to be an operatic singer and was considered a musical prodigy in her town because she taught herself three seperate instruments by 13. When she was 18 she met my then 30 year old father who emotionally manipulated her into giving up her dreams to start a family with him. As a kid I would hear her up at night playing the violin or doing vocal exercises until she became too depressed to practice anymore. Like idk yâall thereâs a quiet type of violence in the way womenâs talents are devalued and brushed aside in favor of bullying them into âtraditionalâ roles that ultimately donât fulfill what they wanted for their lives. Weâve lost so much art, music, writing, science, and happiness to misogyny.
