Saw this edit and it made me think: what if Robert just died at the end of Dispatch? Not temporarily, like that immortal AU I love to think up ideas for, but actually died. Forever. No coming back, no last minute deus ex machina. 

Imagine that he came into the Z-Team’s lives, propped them up and helped them become heroes, and then didn’t get to stick around to see the results of all their hard work. Imagine them rising up the ranks, becoming well-known and well-loved heroes, and always naming their dispatcher Robert Robertson as the reason for their success. 

Imagine that he reconnected with Chase and rebuilt their relationship over the course of a few months, just to die before him. Imagine Chase breaking down over Beef because the dog wants Robert but Robert’s gone and there’s no way to explain that he’s not coming back. 

Whoever you ship him with, imagine that those few months they had together were all they ever got. Imagine that person wondering what might have been, whether they would have been happy, whether they would have stayed together or ended up as friends. If they hadn’t kissed yet, imagine them wishing they’d just gone for it while he was still here. Or worse, imagine their first kiss was a rescue breath. 

Imagine Robert Robertson spent the entire story working towards being a hero once more and slowly coming to the realization that he didn't need to be Mecha Man to be a hero. Imagine he accepted that, and then still got back in that suit to save the people and the city he loved. Imagine he was finally content living a quiet life behind-the-scenes, just to end up dying a hero's death anyway.

You know every show that the premise is like “people find out ghosts/monsters/demons are real and are charged with stopping them” appeal to me way more now as a post-graduate not because I believe in ghosts more or whatever but because can you IMAGINE just being handed a job that you don’t even need to apply for? Like just being told “basically there’s this bad thing and all you do is make sure it doesn’t do what it wants” that’s just customer service baby and I worked that for 6 goddamn years! headcannons and bat facts under the cut

Paternity leave headcannon…

headcannon that while recovering Robert dispatches from home, for more than a couple reasons:

First was blazer needed the z team running, and so someone would need to do it. At surface level, the z team just don’t listen to anyone else quite like they do Robert. Maybe it’s because they’re being difficult (but maybe that has to do with the fact that Robert knew them so well, their strengths, how to foster the best cooperation, and he held their respect unlike any other team-member could.)

but another reason, as helpfully pointed out by his team, was to keep Robert ‘busybody’ Robertson from spiraling into boredom, which they assumed was a deadly state for Mr. Almost-dies-every-day to be in. They were right on some level, inactivity did make him antsy, and so in the later months of recovery blazer consented to the set up of a temporary rule loophole, that allowed Robert to work from home.

sonar is more than happy to lounge at home for a few months, soaking in all the affection from Robert and all new-baby time he can get his claws on, As well as administer copious amounts of his own affection onto his little family. Of course the big family (largely composed of the z team) want in on the baby time too, and that’s a whole different can of worms.

still not over the fact that baby bats have their own version of babbling like human babies do. Bat ‘language’ is extremely fascinating in its complex structure and sophistication. I really like the idea of her having a different call for each dad, as well as little chirps for objects and places. (It’d be super cute if the z-team that visit often get their own as well) i also just like the fact that she will have that connection to share with sonar 🩷

also bats are great at understanding another bat’s emotions through their calls, catch sonar whining by the nursery door because Robert said he couldn’t go in because Harper needs to cry out her 2-year-old tantrum for a bit.

For anyone confused about why this "sweet ad" is actually evil:

ring is passing the surveillance they collect to ice

ring is using these ID features to search for/identify people that ice wants to deport/kidnap/disappear, & using it to spy on Americans in general.

This ad is the company's gross & sneaky attempt to appeal to humans' kindness [ I'll be helping people find their pets!" ]

They are trying to trick more people into buying this tool that will be used as surveillance on people living in the USA

I called this ad propaganda the second I saw it and my dad got annoyed with me. Excuse me for not wanting to live in a fucking surveillance state. It’s too late. My parents already have a camera. But at least the street isn’t visible because we have fence around the front yard. People walking by are safe. They would have to come all the way up the driveway to be seen. But still.

really one of the things i hate most about the ai fuckening we're currently in is that it positions me as the person wearing a tinfoil hat when i try to suggest that maybe handing over biometric and personal data to tech companies is bad, actually.

like maybe perhaps perchance we don't want it scanning our children's faces to do age verification because we don't know what it's going to do with those scans down the line. maybe we shouldn't be using it like a therapy machine and telling it our deepest, most painful things. maybe we shouldn't be giving it a dossier of our detailed medical information, especially in a world (in the us) where things like not being able to hold pre-existing conditions against someone for insurance is increasingly threatened. perhaps we shouldn't be scanning our faces for funny little short videos into something that can also generate porn on demand with all of the data it's collected.

maybe, stay with me and please stop building the tinfoil hat i can see you putting on my head coworker/friend/casual acquaintance, ai ISN'T a miracle to solve humanity's problems and is instead just more tech churned out by tech bros who have not historically been super great when it comes to morals.
