You probably mostly know me from my art blog @eye-of-enigmatic-thought, this is my 'main' or blog I follow from, I mostly reblog art, animals, and posts I like here whilst also various PSAs and informative posts that I think are important. this myth is over a year old at this point (it started when discord introduced "external apps," which means you can add a bot to your account and use its commands in a server if it allows using external apps) but it must be said that this is Not True. discord has not secretly added any bots to your server. you are able to ban any account from a server if you use the ID, regardless of whether it's ever actually joined.

It also just betrays a deep ignorance of how tech works. If discord wants to read your logs, they will have a way to read your logs. No need to put bots into your servers for that, they own the platform you chat on do you think they need workarounds?

Discord is a shitty platform that is desperate to add in AI features without causing a mass user exodus. But whipping up hysteria isn't helping anything. You won't hurt anything by preemptively banning some AI bots in your Discord server, but it isn't foiling Discord sneaking some AI bots into your server. They were likely never there to begin with.

What If We Made Advertising Illegal?

What if we banned all advertising? Not regulate it—abolish it. This proposal would transform manipulation machines, and maybe save democracy

Even as an advertiser (especially as an advertiser), I am convinced that outlawing advertising is the best thing we can do for our world now. More than gun control. More than tackling climate change. More than lowering the price of eggs. Removing these advanced manipulation tools would force everyone—politicians included—to snap back into reality. By outlawing advertising, the machinery of mass delusion would lose its most addictive and toxic fuel.

I started out reading this smugly saying to myself yeah, right.

But by the end I'm sold. Let's ban advertising.

We can start small, maybe with city ordinances. Then roll it out county wide, then at the state level. Once other states see how quiet and sane things can be, they'll adopt the ban too. The ones that don't will remain snarling islands of rage & delusion until the people move away.

So I saw on tiktok that Palestinian journalist, Bisan Owda, has called for a boycott of Spider-Man: Brand New Day because its producer, Avi Arad, has publicly supported the genocide of the Palestinian people and has defended Netanyahu

I’m also seeing that there are posts about it on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook, but I’m not seeing any posts about it on Tumblr? Am I not looking up the right keywords in the search bar or are we all out of the loop?

People don't like to admit it bcs cringe or w/e but Homestuck really did revolutionize the webcomic as a storytelling medium and I am endlessly frustrated that before webcomic artists could really stretch our legs fucking webtoonz swooped in, set a new, more restrictive standard, and then monetized and monopolized the ever living fuck out of the concept of The Webcomic until it drove away anyone who couldn't be a professional quality manga artist for free, and now the only webcomics that actually feel like spiritual successors to Homestuck are so obscure they're basically cult classics that you have to beg people to read.

Like it's just so wild to be in high school and see Homestuck be like "we're using like fifteen different artistic mediums to tell this story bcs we can" and be really fucking inspired by that, only to grow up and see basically every webcomic ever have to conform to One Single Standard or fucking perish.

Actually, I realized my real point here: we all need to make our art weirder. Please make weird art. I want more stuff like Prequel Adventure and 17776 and MyHouse.wad and I want it now. Capitalism thrives on conformity. We must be weird at all costs.
