every year small towns and indigenous communities across canada are burnt to nothing by horrific wildfires and americans go on the internet to complain about it and blame us bc the smoke has spread to their state. i’m so tired.

I just want to write "Something is bad because it creates a victim, NOT because it's icky" over and over until they finally get it. And fiction within the vacuum of fiction will never create a real living victim. Disgust about taboo fiction is fine, but treating it the same as real life crimes is insulting to real life victims. Laws are about preventing and protecting victims, not because the offense itself is gross.

There was a scandal in Poland because one translator decided to translate him accurately, tone, vocabulary level and word salad tangents and all. Polish conservatives who don't speak English and previously only heard smoothed out translations that sounded coherent and used big words were up in arms about how the translator was "inserting her political agenda", "mocking him", "exaggerating", "purposefully trying to make him look bad" and "incredibly unprofessional". I listened to the translation in question. It was literally just accurate.
