It's been a while since I said "this person wins the internet", but today it is merited.

Anyone else kind of think that IP law is bullshit?
Like, so let's consider the facts. Star Trek was created 60 years ago by a guy who died 35 years ago. Most of the canon was created more than 20 years ago, by people who have since died or moved on with their careers. These people, the ones who actually had a hand in making it, have, other than a tiny trickle in royalties, made all of the money that they will ever make off of their work; their work which has inspired millions of people across generations and become a fixture of popular culture.
And yet, somehow, through some strange alchemy of law and capitalism, all of this is owned by a bunch of usurious sons of bitches with an ideology diametrically opposed to that which the series was created to represent. Men who had no part in creating it, men who, in fact, have never created anything at all, get the revenue from it. They alone get to say what happens next in this fictional universe that they had no part in creating, and that means nothing to them. They alone get to turn the spigot of new Star Trek on or off depending on their taste.
Now of course "it is what it is", right? That's how everything works. There are entire industries that are just dominated by rich assholes owning entire libraries of intellectual property that would be completely beyond their capacity to ever create in a million lifetimes, and all that you can do is lobby for copyright reform. But surely it is kind of fucked up, right?
Dahling you simply must read this book! It’s all about this devious little caterpillar who simply gorges himself on all manner of divine things

I think god meant to make william shatner gay. I think william shatner would be happier if he was a gay
I think william shatner would love it if he was gay. He would never stop talking about it on Twitter. He would relish being the first gay star trek captain and would say shit like “Kirk wasn’t gay but I made him gay” and dudebros would be so mad about it and tell him to stop but he would just keep giving cunty replies, much like he does now but with an excuse. He would have even crazier beef with george takei where there’s always an unspoken implication that he thinks takei doesn’t like him because shatner wouldn’t fuck him. He would be a guest judge on drag race and look vaguely uncomfortable the entire time because he’s not that kind of gay and he’s still old and weird about like. Men wearing nail polish. He would claim that anyone that didn’t like him is being homophobic and it wouldn’t matter how unpleasant he was because he would have a squad of loyal gay reply guys who would say shit like “slay” under every single tweet he made. He would be so much happier if he was gay and I think he knows it.
in happier pride news i actually found this deeply heartwarming
that's solidarity baybeeee
Further context: Durham city council (Reform UK) cut funding and support for Pride. The Durham Miner's Association and other trade unions raised enough money for Durham Pride 2026 to go ahead - a direct call back to when Lesbian and Gays Support the Miners (LGSM) raised money for mining communities when Margaret Thatcher seized union funding during the miner strikes of 1984-85.
At the 1985 Labour party meet, the motion to support LGBT rights as a party was passed due to a block vote from mining unions.
Stephen Guy, the chair of the Durham Miners’ Association, said that when it became apparent Durham Pride was under threat, he took it upon himself to “encourage the trade union movement to step up and do the right thing, and stand shoulder to shoulder with the LGBT+ community […] They not only raised funds for us, but came to our communities, uplifted our spirits when they were down, and showed their solidarity.”
PLEASE! Go watch the film Pride (2014) for more about the queers and socialist labor organizers who fought back against Thatcher, all during the AIDS crisis!
this is probably my favorite tiktok of all time and I finally got around to showing it to my dad the other day and now he comes home every day and tells me about all the places he saw crumbling concrete and says "guess they didn't add enough chinchilla flakes"
My dad has worked in construction is whole life, primarily with a company that does concrete foundations, and I immediately sent him this back when I first found it on TikTok, and he IMMEDIATELY shared it with everyone he worked with. They apparently still quote it on his job sites to this day.

doubly funny that I saw a compilation of all the corporate accounts like "aw thanks elmo, we're doing well" meanwhile all the flesh and blood real human people are extremely not okay
Okay but Elmo had actually the best and sweetest response to all this trauma dumping:
And then all the other Sesame Street character accounts joined in:
And now I’m thinking maybe we’re gonna be okay… 💗
(Comment compilation from this Twitter)
I kinda feel for the poor person running Elmo's Twitter.
"So, boss... I may have messed up."
"What did you do, Ray?"
"Well, I made a post for Elmo saying 'Hi, how's everybody doing?'"
"I mean, that's kind of what we pay you for."
"Yeah, but.... <sigh> it turns out pretty much everyone is hanging on by a thread, badly enough that they needed to tell Elmo."
"Oh."
"God help me, boss, I think Elmo needs to be there for them."
"Get the others."
this is the energy that jim henson would be proud of.
and important addition

Paramount please please please just put Tawny Newsome in charge of the entire franchise. She loves it and she fucking GETS IT
I just do not understand what motherfucker saw the premise for Lower Decks and said, "yeah, let's greenlight this as a ten episode a season show and let's only give it five seasons." like it truly makes no sense to me, a show like this would have absolutely thrived under a cable TV type schedule of 20-24 episodes a season and it could have easily gone on for at least 10 seasons, the streaming model truly kneecapped this show from the very beginning
Lower Decks really missed a golden opportunity to travel back in time to not The Trouble With Tribbles, but to Trials and Tribble-ations, where live action Boimler and Mariner would've had to avoid not only Kirk's crew, but the copy-pasted crew from Deep Space 9.
Just keep seeing how many layers you can pile on top of the original episode.
