The Area 51 raid was like, the absolute opposite of Dashcon. Like this was an event that was comically not supposed to work, but you crazy sons of bitches actually managed to show up and just throw an alien-themed party while armed gaurds stood angrily on the sidelines. It was JUST as stupid as the memes said it would be and nobody thought anything would happen

One of our local news reported on this calling it a "huge flop" because something like 200 people showed up out of the 2million that signed up on the event like.......do these buffoons not realise that the fact that even a single person showing up to a joke event in an extremely unconvenient and possibly even dangerous location, let alone 200, exceeds everyone's expectations? 200 people. Showing up AT THE GATES of what's supposed a secret base. Armed with CLAP ALIEN CHEEKS signs.

Does it make me paranoid to feel like the media reporting on this is, like, undermining it on purpose? The article I read started with these huge numbers - 2 million signed up, at least 5 000 were expected, etc. to make the final count of 200 people at the gates look small. It's not. 200 people is a HUGE number of people considering they 1. Had to go out of their way, like, a lot 2. Were exposing themselves to danger and 3. Had no real purpose or reward motivating them other than a good time and an iconic meme moment. I feel like they don't want us to realise that "they can't stop all of us" mentality is onto something. And they don't want us to think about how many of us would show up if something important to us was truly at stake.
Anyway, so, now that that's done, who's up for storming refugee camps?

Mirrodin was a very clever design. It had a lot of developmental issues.
Esper shard was a very cool design.
Scars of Mirrodin was an evocative and intricate design. Infect was polarizing, but things that push boundaries often are and it had passionate fans. There were a few broken cards, but not my purview.
Kaladesh is one of my favorite designs Iāve ever done. Players got to actually feel like an inventor. Again, there were plenty of development issues, but it captured the feel I was aiming for as a designer.
I admit artifact blocks have a lot of play design concerns, and thatās why weāre starting to incorporate colored artifacts to help provide more tools for play design with balancing artifacts, but Iām quite proud of all four artifact designs Iāve worked on.
SO the only difference between āGood designā and āBad designā in Markās eyes are if he likes them or not. CERTAINLY no bias here, folks!
You do realize thereās a difference between design and power level right? All of the sets mentioned had great designs, and are some of the most popular sets, but the difference is that the development / play design teams (not what Maro has any say over) overall failed in their job of balancing the set. Also, the only difference between good and bad design in your eyes is an anti-Wizards bias and your own opinions, whereas Maro has market research to back up his claims.
