Ah I didn’t see it as hating on Wiccans, although, after looking at it again, I’d change the title to shout out both non-Wiccan and Wiccan witches, both are awesome and the title does seem to be excluding Wiccan witches.

I believe what OP was trying to say was that when you start becoming a witch a lot of people assume you’re Wiccan if you’re a witch and that isn’t necessarily true. And it can be confusing when you first start out and you might assume that if you’re a witch, you’re also Wiccan. Which, if you are/want to be great! But you don’t have to be. But idk, I deleted the original because yeah, I see that it can also be hating on Wiccan witches, which you pointed out, and that’s a no-go for me. Sorry if it upset anyone!

Cults are getting better branding, prettier leaders, hipper-sounding cosmologies, and wider reaches due to social media. They’re not all deity-focused. Thoughtful, intelligent people can get sucked into them. Just…stay safe out there, guys. Do your research, look at all your options, and trust your gut, not groupthink.

I do want to emphasize, again, that cults (and toxic groups with cult-like attributes, I’m using this term pretty loosely) don’t usually look like what you’d expect. A lot of toxic and dangerous religious movements are tiny and you won’t find much about them via Google. Cultish non-religious movements are the same way.

Start-ups, multi-level marketing companies, activist groups, fan groups, political groups, and internet mystics who run retreats can all be cult-like and dangerous. Tune your BS detector, ask family, friends, and experts for advice.

Here are some warning signs:

Pressure – pressure to make quick decisions, to give (or pledge) considerable amounts of money, to move in with a group, to abandon family or cut off friends. Elevated Leaders – anyone claiming special insight, special powers, or that they aren’t human. Demanding special treatment (compared to other followers). Misuse of funds or money collecting at the top. physical, emotional, and/or sexual abuse. Lack of accountability or oversight. Isolation – encouraging (or requiring) members to cut off family relationships, friendships with those outside of the group, leaving jobs, moving to isolated areas, taking away communication methods. Strong “us-vs-them” mentality. Vilification of ex-members. Love-bombing. Altered states of consciousness – long work hours, sleep deprivation, lack of access to adequate food or water. Otherwise unproblematic activities like meditation/prayer/chanting, but done for hours. Discouraging doubt – discouraging or punishing doubt and critical thinking.

Unions are why you have 5 day, 40 hour full-time work weeks. Unions are why they have to pay you in actual dollars instead of “company credits” that you can only spend at the company-owned stores. Unions are why there are fucking fire exits at your place of work. Unions are why it’s not okay for your supermarket ground beef to be any percentage human.

You think your company pays you out of the goodness of their hearts? Or even out of “market pressure?” The “job market” is a myth perpetuated by the capitalists. Corporations would pay you nothing if they could get away with it. And you argue “oh, but if they paid me nothing I’d just go to another one.” Wrong. Because to maximize profits, they all want to pay you nothing. Corporations exist to maximize profits while reducing risk for investors. It’s part of their entire function to find ways to cut costs as much as possible, and that includes finding ways to pay you nothing.

Unions are your defense against that. You think all a union does is strike? If you pay union dues, a lot of that is spent on lobbyists in various governments reminding your lawmakers that you have rights as a living human being that a corporation should not be able to stomp all over. Unions hire lawyers so that if you’re fired for bullshit reasons, the union can stand up for you against your boss. They’re called unions because workers are uniting to pool resources so that they can stand up to these corporate overlords with more money than God. Unions exist because you might not have the words, resources, or time to fight workplace injustices all by yourself. That’s the whole fucking point.

And if a business shuts down because a union is striking, it’s because the business was abusing people and didn’t deserve to be in business anyway. Don’t make excuses for the corporations. They already have trillions of dollars and a couple million lawyers to do that for themselves. They don’t need your help.

Language spreads around all the time. That's what naturally happens when people are introduced to new ways of saying things.

I don't see why you would have to credit anyone when you add a new word to your vocabulary. This isn't like with art where it makes sense to get upset that people are spreading something you made without your consent. It comes off as a stupid thing to get upset by

You did the absolute most to skip, hop, and jump to a conclusion far outside of the point. When you take and adopt language as your own and don't acknowledge where it comes from, it's an issue.

You say in your bio that you are a native English speaker but you also know Spanish. You know what you just did? You acknowledged the origins of those languages as not being your own creation.

When Black people from Black culture create new words, phrases, languages, and linguistic phenomenon, which we have been known to do, not acknowledging those words and styles are specifically Black and stem from Blackness is racist and an issue.

And before you go into an unsubstantiated example of why this isn't an issue, let me remind you that Etymology is a thing. We use entomology to learn where and when a word was created, by who, it's variants, and that information is used so we know how to pronounce it and, in cases like Spanish, how to use it. Ex. El problema - A seemingly feminine word that is actually masculine because it is of Greek origin and that it how many Greek words in Spanish are treated.

Next, this has been a common way to deny and erase cultures that are not dominant. We see the same thing with Native languages in America. Majority of the States are specifically named after Indigenous folks or their words. Because of boarding schools and intentional erasure, that is unknown and it is assumed that all these names are English, further erasing Native folks.

And most importantly, this cartoon should really highlight that Black Women (mainly cishet) routinely do this exact same thing with the exact same words but eith the Black LGBTQ+ communities. Tea, shade, sis, queen, the kids, etc... are all from Black gay culture which has been a steady steward for Blackness through out time, yet they are constantly denied access to the more dominant cultures which consume and misappropriate their languages. Languages, which, were specifically created for their own survival. They also happen to be the ones who profit the least from something they created, formed, and gave life to.

In summation, what comes of as stupid is an intentional, uneducated, and harmful dismissal of an issue we have thousands of years of observations to support.

Police officers shoot and kill Kid in Los Angeles: ‘He ran because he was scared’

Andrew Heney, owner of the Freeway autoshop, told a local CBS affiliate: “We had a security guard that was out front, because we had just had certain issues with people tagging and stuff like that.”

“And then the police came up, and they pulled their guns on him and he ran because he was scared, and they shot and killed him. He’s got a clean background and everything. There’s no reason.”

The sheriff’s department are claiming Andres Gyuardado had a gun but the autoshop owner and witness to the shooting says that’s absolutely not true he never carried a weapon and didn’t that night.

What’s even worse is that right after the shooting, the Store owner said the cops immediately destroyed all the surrounding security cameras, broke into the store, stole his DVR with the recordings, and then created an illegal warrant after doing all this. 

The shop owner also states he never called the police and doesn’t understand because “There was no reason for them to be there.”
