the mystic cross.

Advice from an hereditary witch’s grandmother: things a crone has to say

My witch of a grandmother gave me her beautiful encyclopedia on healing plants to celebrate Ostara! I told her about my blog and she asked me to share some of her advice “for those lovely internet disciples of yours”. No, Yeyé, that’s not how this works…

But hey! When the crone talks, you listen!

“A jar of glass keeps away envious spirits and people who want to hurt you.”

“Everything dead deserves to be honored.”

“Strings of seeds bring prosperity.”

“A stone in the windowsill is a soldier that keeps away thieves, but make sure it’s not a pretty rock cause they might steal it!”

“When you trim a vine, keep some branches by the door so all the hard work you’ve done doesn’t disappear in a single day!”

“When you’re old and can’t move so much anymore, keep a jar of seeds by the Gods so they can pick their offerings as they please.”

“I keep lavender by the computer because it helps me remember how to open Facebook. Lavender is good for memory. Tell your friends of the internet.”

“I keep the obsidian and the agathe geodes in front of the TV so there will be no bad news.”

if you are holding on to anger towards someone (especially a person who is no longer in your life), sit in a quiet place, burn your favorite incense, and write that person a letter.  write down every single thought and emotion you feel towards that person. when you are done, burn the letter in a cauldron or fireproof bowl.  as you burn it, repeat out loud “you no longer have power in my life” until the letter has turned to ash.  collect the ash and use it to make black salt.

I still need to add the numbers (gotta find a stencil for those) but I just wanted to share with everyone this page in my grimoire! It’s the center of my grimoire, so it lays out flat and becomes a portable spirit board. I’m just using a quartz heart for it, but you can use what you like. I just thought this would be great to share for any DIY witches or those who travel a lot. I also plan on using my pendulum with it and seeing what feels better. Anyway! Let me know what you guys think

I think I’ve been doing this Pagan thing long enough that I can break it down to stages. I actually hate stage models because few people ever neatly progress from one stage to the next and it depends on so many factors. So this is (mostly) tongue in cheek:

Stage 0 “This mythology/Pagan stuff/witchy stuff seems kind of cool.”

Stage 1 is when you just start out and everything is new, where A White Candle Means Purification And Anything Else is Invalid. Everything is Serious Business and must be approached in a Serious and Solemn matter. It’s when you start buying all the tools, because everyone says you need all the tools. Labels are important because everyone has one.

Stage 2 is when you get a bit more settled, so to speak. Your praxis becomes a bit more personal. You start tossing the tools you don’t use/don’t need. You start realizing other people do things differently. You like blue candles for purification now.

Stage 3 “I don’t give a fuck correspondences are meaningless fuck everyone else.”

Stage 4: *splashes milk on cereal* Witchcraft.
