So, not dead! Just not here for the most part :P Currently actually poking an ask box prompt from years ago (literally, I think this thing is at least 3-4 years old at this point). So hopefully I'll have something new in December.

Yeah, would everyone rather I finish my old projects? Probably. Is that gonna happen? Probably not any time soon (Jet is being a bastard and refusing to actually say his feelings and don't get me started on TWYSMN).

BUT This should mean some more Roommates AU! Okami HD will probably be going on sale soon since the sequel was announced, and if you haven’t played it before, I beg you to give it a try. It is truly one of the games of all time. It’s beautiful. It’s a work of art. And it’s also really goddamn fun.

You’re playing as the sun goddess Amaterasu in a fictionalized version of Classical Japan heavily inspired by mythology and folklore, on a quest to save a world overtaken by darkness. That’s all well and good, but the goddess, who takes a form of a majestic white wolf, is just waking up from a very long sleep, during which the people have lost their faith in her, which means she’s lost most of her powers. So now she’s just a big ol’ sleepy puppy dog, and acts and is viewed by the humans around her accordingly. She’s a Good Dog. Who wants a tummy rub.

Her quest to save the world involves a bunch of big epic fights, but it’s also a lot of little acts of good and kindness to rekindle the world’s faith in her. It’s feeding the birds and rabbits! It’s making the flowers bloom! And those little things matter!It really heals the heart, seeing how your small acts of kindness bring life back into the world. It matters that I helped that dying tree bloom again. It matters that I ran an errand for a little old man. It matters that I fed a family of pigs.

That’s not even getting into the influence of different types of Japanese art on the very meat of the game. You use a Celestial Brush by drawing on the screen to create wind, cut down enemies, make a fucking bomb, and like a million other cool ways to interact with the world, all with beautiful ink drawings.

Another one for Inuit artists is Piqsiq! Two sisters who’ve been doing traditional throat singing since they were kids. They make some really gorgeous, eerie, atmospheric stuff. Highly recommend watching this video of them performing live a cappella using a looping machine, because they might be the coolest people on the planet actually

For anyone into North Asian and Central Asian folk music, there's this incredible Siberian folk-pop band called Otyken! The group is mostly women and they're from multiple indigenous groups in Siberia, with songs being sung in their range of different languages. They're so much fun and their music videos are amazing!

i'll go ahead and recommend The Halluci Nation (formerly known as A Tribe Called Red), an EDM group from First Nations Ontario that do really cool fusions of First Nations music with dubstep, moombahton, and hip hop.

I really really really appreciate people who share videos on posts like these, because almost without a doubt every time I love the music but I’ve never got the spoons to click on links and look through a bunch of music or worse google the artist I always end up too overwhelmed to start and I hate that

Haven't seen Belle Sisoski here yet so here we go: she's the current Artist of Year for BURO impact Awards. She's from Malaysia and knows how to play an insane amount of ethnic instruments and mixes them with her own voice. She does covers and her own songs, mixes ethnic instruments with Techno and shows the process. And she's also a live DJ at 19!

Y'all this is a piece of history right here. Every single time you see a reference to a "shovel talk" in fic, defined here as "someone threatening harm to a potential romantic partner of a friend/loved one," it's referencing this scene. This scene specifically. Everywhere else that is not fannish internet, that interaction is referred to a "shotgun talk," referencing the father threatening a daughter's boyfriend with a shotgun. This scene gave a lot of people a chance to reframe that interaction in terms of a protective friend rather than a possessive father, which for a lot of obvious reasons resonated with people a whole fucking lot, and it immediately spread like wildfire into fannish and then general internet lexicon. I've seen people try and backronym it into an extension of the shotgun talk, as in, "I've got a shotgun and a shovel to bury you with," but I've asked a lot of rednecks from a lot of different necks of the woods and no one has ever encountered that variant in brickspace life. It's all Buffy, babey. This shit is linguistic history in the making.

one big thing i think people outside fandom (like, all fandoms, fandom in general, not any particular one) tend to misunderstand is they know it's a subculture of people who are weirdly deeply invested in fictional media, and they hear about drama caused by people in those subcultures being unhinged in not-fun ways, and they think the unhingedness comes from the fact of being overinvested in works of fiction.

which is a natural assumption, but in my experience that's not really the case? like in my experience the drama llamas in fandom are usually not the ones who are just genuinely very deeply into the fiction. i've known people who are basically thinking about star trek or x-men comics or supernatural pretty much 100% of their free time and ime that type of person is usually very nice and surprisingly functional in their regular life. when someone's a constant nexus of fandom drama it's usually not that they are obsessed with the actual work of fiction the fandom is about, it's at least one of the following:

what they're obsessed with is not the source material but their unhealthy parasocial relationships with one or more of the people who created it

what they're obsessed with is not the source material but some elaborate shared-universe subset of fanfic about it that's only barely related to the original at this point, and/or an esoteric reading-against-the-text reinterpretation of the source material (often if the canon is active and ongoing this leads to becoming actively hostile toward it for its inevitably increasing failure to conform to their preferred fanon)

what they're obsessed with is not the source material but the fandom itself and gathering clout within it, so that the source material basically only exists to them as a tool for scoring points in increasingly arcane fandom disputes

and very often you get the same person doing 2 and sometimes even all 3 of these, and that's where the trouble really starts

They got rid of the send message button. On the send messages to my friends app. In order to make room for a 5th button that sells you something. The parody is too bold people will roll their eyes you have to scale it back.

Also, if you're someone who'd like to customize your discord further, or remove nitro garbage or bypass it, better discord (an open source project) can be used on desktop for a lot of fun results:

a lot of fetishes are by nature taboo and not really talked about in polite company but since most have very specific names (usually something-philia) and are subject to psychological studies occasionally, you can find books and articles about them online. aside from that, it can be worthwhile to just look at something you enjoy and question your personal desire for it, and branch off from there, which can lead to more nuanced discussion when you're among peers. sometimes it can end up being a whole ass anthropological history lesson and you might be surprised just how much documentation there is and how far back people were entertaining certain fantasies and desires

you should also take time to occasionally look at your smut from a critical point of view. nothing wrong with an analysis of artistic intent and a look into structure, procedure, execution, and climax. it can help elevate your standards, but also its just interesting to really see what someone with the same fetish was doing and how their approach may or may not differ from what you feel is quintessential.

fetishes and kinks aren't omega important in the grand scheme like you don't need a master's thesis about fat women on my desk by friday or whatever, but they also don't exist isolated. they're technically a part of you. you should occasionally question things about yourself and what about them makes you hot and bothered and learning how other people question, express, and discover things can help build a better understanding about what you like and who you are.
