MY FUCKING CAR
Longterm single player is SUCH a different vibe to anything else. So many of the players I know get bored and move on to other things as soon as the new and shiny has worn off.
Something I'll be chewing on for a long time: What is good longterm? What is enjoyable enough to still want to play when it isn't new and shiny at all?
I get uncomfortable when games become primarily about novelty. idk.
Okay so reika7 is on I think the third build now. I did wind up taking out projecte and putting in botania, enderio, and ticon.
It probably didn't need all those. Winds up feeling like a kitchen sink pack, but lighter and with not enough decorations.
Anyway it chugs a lot in single player, but I think it'd work well enough in multiplayer.
I keep ruminating about disabling the armors above black matter in minetweaker, and putting it back in —
— I'm kinda tired of cranking out solutions to early puzzles again for the nth time; it really gets me thinking about how much minecraft mods trade on novelty and learning.
— Your mod concept is probably gonna be fun the first time because it's new, but how fun is it going to be the twelfth time?
The question becomes exponentially more important when you step away from the option to just install the newest hotness and start over from scratch in a different pack.
(I hardly even know where to start bitching about the modern modding scene >>)
— I suppose, in a way, this is why I am attracted to longer form mods like chc, TC4, etc. They're my mountain climbing projects. Maybe that's why I don't put projecte back in.
Dyson Sphere Program owes more to Mindustry than it does to Factorio.
oh man the painting on this drawing is insa- fuck do you mean #minecraft build
the specific build in question btw
I looked up some of the artist's other builds and they're all just absolutely incredible
this is what I see in my mind's eye when I think about the way Tumblr discourse happens. emergent infectious patterns of 0-player deterministic mathematical repetition rippling out and begetting more dying patterns. we have this thread EVERY WEEK COMRADE. and we're just gonna KEEP HAVING IT so long as a living pixel keeps crashing into a sufficiently large mass of nominally alive blogs.
but then when you get the pixels just right... ZANG!!
Estranged parents are a joke. They're still generally terrible and harmful people, but at their core they are also clowns.
"Forgotten father" here is not gonna make it.
#oh believe me she remembers you and her friends are calling you a dipshit in the groupchat (tag via @kuttithevangu)

so I'd do this origin something like
∘Slightly less than one block tall and wide - fits through an open trapdoor when crouching
+Has access to some form of Morph, but reverts to normal after 3-4 hearts damage
+Permanent regeneration 1/resistance 1
+Can do several double jumps, immune to falling damage
-Slower digging, especially stone and metal
-Extra knockback on any damage taken
-No metal armor; cloth or leather or gemstone ok
-Hunger and satiety consumed 5x faster than normal; reduced satiation from anything without sugar or honey in its craft tree
sometimes it is important to have an utterly stupid little project. if i’m having a rough day and i want to spend a bunch of time assembling a playlist that i like to think about josh hoberman from the bad tv show “the magicians” earnestly presenting to his friends (very specific type of rich white stoner hip hop nerd, curating music both for genuine enjoyment and also to perform a “cred” he can never attain but also on some level he is too zooted to really care about the cred thing which is nice!!) no one can technically stop me from doing that
reika7 is in alpha. it's been long enough, I think she's finally done.
gonna see how far I get including projectE in the pack. the last time I tried it dragonapi was in version like 18 or 20 and it crashed on load.
anybody wanna see the modlist so far?
projectE did indeed get it scrambled.
turns out you can break your speed permanently with the gem boots interacting with other mods' gear.
well, that's a couple of weeks down the drain. next season: I try it again on garden of glass.
was worth a shot though.
“Try to imagine a tower of cubes which stretches to the sky. Try to imagine the cube at the very top of the tower. Try to imagine a door in the side of the topmost cube. Can you imagine walking through that door? Do you know what’s inside?”
— Question from a diagnostic assessment for a mental illness I’m trying to invent
the inside of the cube is mostly empty. the walls are rough and magenta and the pigment sticks to your fingers . in the top wall there is a glassless window. this window is located just above a heavy matte blue sphere, centered in the cube's floor wall.
sorta like this
yuppppp. you have the disease
oh no! is there a cure?
they keep trying to find one but i keep sabotaging the experiments
THE MINECRAFT WIKI HAS OFFICIALLY MOVED AWAY FROM FANDOM.COM
the new link is minecraft.wiki instead of the previous fandom-affiliated site
the fandom site will still appear in search results but you can help to correct this by:
not clicking fandom links
updating any links to the minecraft wiki to use the new site
spreading the word of the new site!
fandom.com has been a massive problem for wikis for years - their sites are overloaded with ads and popups, and the articles are often unreadable. minecraft wiki is now hosted by weird gloop, which also runs the runescape and runescape old school wikis!
on the "you could just not" approach
Chromaticraft Minus Chromaticraft would be a trivially easy mod to write, just run the appropriate debug command to make the player tier 10 at first login and swap the finished chromic lexicon for the default one.
The largest part now of why I want to compile a spoiler anyway is so we can then write tutorials from it. (SentinalhMC made some admirable progress on this, but didn't get all the way through.) Like, I do get that the ostensible purpose of all this puzzling is to convey the mod's mechanics to a new player in a memorable way at a digestible pace. If I remove the puzzling and research, then it becomes on me to do that.
If I don't, what's left is a bizarre overwhelming wall of unfun contextless options.
Where Reika and I part company even now is in the particulars of puzzle design and philosophy of difficulty.
Chromaticraft is intrinsically hardcore. There's that much stuff going on there. Adding even more challenge in the form of abstruse puzzling and broken mod interactions seems excessive and sadistic.
Even Dark Souls and all its deformed offspring let you grind out some stats if you're patient enough. I like Chromaticraft enough to want to make it more accessible to new players, not just easier for me personally.

haven't gone deep into chc yet — obviously — but projectE seems to be behaving nicely, I am ramping through its tech tree without any trouble.
everyone who thinks ee2/projecte flattens all the fun out of the game: you are all like tiny children to me. it wouldn't even do this if i had some legendary compat mod that placed smart emc values on every single thing in nei.
if ee2 makes your pack boring, it was already boring before you added ee2.
I have more fun when I can skip the early vanilla game I've already teched through thirty times and approach all the modded tech trees from the side, rather than the bottom.
(Apologies for the delay! Yesterday was nuts)

Anyway. The stated goal of the pack is making Chromaticraft less bullshit to solve.

so i finally went into the deep dark (hadn't before this. scary. too scary), and I Have Thoughts specifically about the biology of the warden and sculk, and how they could function together
there will be much biology nerd rambling under the cut
