Books + food + music + dogs = life | call me ishi | emo metalhead | I will put everything I even mildly like on this blog, so if you cringe that's on you. | i don't tag stuff im sorry | radfems, TERFs dni. | i do rb some nsfw stuff, so fair warning about that.
Whenever I see people discoursing online about how all fiction must model good behavior and explicitly state that any bad behavior depicted is wrong, lest someone in the audience mistake it for “glorifying,” all I can think of is that line from Arrested Development where Buster, in his mid-30s, objects to something by saying “that’s not the way mother is raising me”
Like yeah maybe YA books and kids’ cartoons have a responsibility to demonstrate the difference between Right and Wrong, since the audience is, like, actual children, but if you’re consuming literally anything more advanced than Disney XD’s Ducktales, you should absolutely be expected to bring your own moral framework from home and not need your media to spoon-feed morality to you
if you see a show about a a man manufacturing and selling methamphetamine while abusing his wife and murdering people and you can’t tell whether the author intends for you to think his actions are right or wrong? That might be more your problem than the text’s. You might just, at that point, be an idiot.
Ive said this before but swear the biggest skill to learn as an adult is how to resist high-pressure sales tactics. You do NOT have to answer questions with anything other than "Sorry I'm not interested." No matter how nice they are or no matter how many follow up questions they ask or even how agitated they get when you stand your ground. Just keep saying I'm not interested. Don't answer their questions. Don't give them an opening to try to push back on your reasons. Be a fucking brick wall of I'm not interested.
When we bought our car, I told Sean to let me handle it. I walked in and said "We have X for a down payment and cannot pay more than Y in monthly payments." My Y number had some leeway, but I didn't mention that.
First thing the sales guy did after I laid down the rules was turn to Sean and go, "What's your number?" And Sean said. "Oh, no, you negotiate with Gayle."
So, strike one for the sales guy. Could not divide and conquer us by implying THE MAN would not surprised at what I laid down.
Sales guy then had to confer with his manager and left us at his desk for several minutes. I have a vague recollection (this was 16 years ago) of Sean and I amusing ourselves doing bits about the other people there to look at cars. I am sure we did not give off the stressed or nervous energy they were hoping for.
Guy comes back. His first offer is fifty dollars a month more than I told him we could pay. I looked at him and said "I gave you our upper limit."
"Well, but what's another 50 bucks a month?"
"Something I can't afford."
He didn't know what to do with my open and unashamed admittal that I had a budget because my money was finite.
He went back to talk to the manager again.
It took two more rounds of "I told you what I can afford" before he finally came back 20 bucks under what I'd stated as my max.
The trick to resisting high-stress sales tactics is doing the math at home, knowing exactly what you can afford, and then walking into the room and stating that number minus 15%. Then refusing to budge from that number. Never, ever, meet then where they want. Always meet them where you want. Because at the end of the day, you can walk away and go somewhere else and say "I told the people at Z what my terms were, and they refused to work with me. Here are my terms. Meet them, and you make a sale today."
When I took ASL classes, my teacher explained that interpreters should interpret EVERYTHING, including slurs and things that they’d normally be uncomfortable saying. She said something along the lines of “deaf people have the right to swear.” I think that applies to what they’re allowed to see as well.
Why shouldn’t deaf people be able to fully express themselves and consume media the same way a hearing person can? If everything you watched had random bleeps every time there was a swear word, you’d be annoyed, so why are deaf people not receiving the same consideration?
Yeah it's call functional equivalency, when providing a service to a disabled person you are to provide a functionally equivalent experience to what a not disabled person would have. For example people who provide captions for phone calls cannot even be subpoenad to testify in court because a hearing person wouldn't have had anyone listening to thier call so the functional equivalent is those people do not legally exist.
When providing services for the disabled you should strive for functional equivalence, if it ain't censored for a hearing person don't censor it for a deaf/hoh person, easy as
i had to work with The Fucking Spike from 2017 to 2025 and it's a miracle i never damaged anything. up until of course i stopped using the tablet for over 3 weeks and the apple pencil just like, died from planned obsolescence. they do that, btw, the battery is designed to just Fail if you stop using it for 3 weeks to a month. by the way.
BTW, just to make sure everyone knows, this isn't just some internet rando commenting on her observations on the internet.
They are an Assistant Professor of Media Industries at New York University and literally just finished writing The Apple II Age: How the Computer Became Personal, a book on the history of the computer industry in the 70s.
This tweet isn't just an observation, it's the result of years of research and study. And it's absolutely true.
Who else dreams of Cassandra Clare writing a book about the story of Jocelyn and Valentine? I know she’s literally writing the final series in the TMI universe, but I’m dying for a book about that. That relationship haunts me.
sir paul mccartney you are more than a historic and national treasure to me. you are a mother and a father. a daughter and a mouse. a musical beast, a mythical archangel, and the most annoying person to exist. you are the virgin mary and the best juggler at a circus. you are a pin up doll and the 20th century mozart. all that.
There is a line, and this fandom has crossed it. Again....
Someone posted a TikTok accusing Aleksander of being a rapist. Not in metaphor, not in flawed interpretation. In clear, definitive language. And to make it worse, they used a video of Ben Barnes, a real human being, to deliver that lie.
Aleksander is not a rapist. That word carries weight. That word has meaning. And it should never, ever be thrown around to spice up your personal dislike for a fictional character. Especially not when there is nothing in the canon to support it. He does not commit rape. There is no non-consensual scene. There is no forced sexual act. You may not like his intensity, you may not like his power, you may be terrified of a man who is not apologetic about his grief, ambition, or control — but none of that makes him what you accused him of.
And the fact that this accusation is so freely made, so casually posted, says everything about the intellectual rot spreading through Grishaverse fandom spaces full of kids!
People no longer analyze. They attack, they no longer read, they react. They don’t care about facts. They care about outrage. They have turned this fandom into a performance of moral panic, where the most extreme label wins and where no one is held accountable for slandering characters or dragging real actors into their hysteria!
Aleksander Morozova is one of the most complex, painfully written characters in recent fantasy. He is immortal, traumatized, deeply lonely, and entirely shaped by centuries of violence and loss.
Reducing all of that to a label like rapist is not only false. It is fucking disgusting!
And dragging Ben Barnes into it — an actor whose performance brought depth, vulnerability, and humanity to this role is not just unethical. It is cruel. It is the act of someone who has no understanding of boundaries, no understanding of fiction, and no care for the consequences of their own words. There are real survivors in this world, real crimes, real trauma. And using that language to describe a character you personally dislike is not advocacy. It’s mockery and abuse.
I am linking the video here so that others can see how far this has gone:
Let this be clear. Aleksander is not your Pinterest boyfriend or your one-dimensional villain. He is a man built from centuries of fire, blood, love, and betrayal. If you are incapable of facing that, then walk away. But don’t you dare rewrite the story with lies just because complexity frightens you.
This isn't about liking or disliking a character. This is about the truth. And the truth matters even in fiction.
The Grishaverse fandom is no longer a fandom. It’s rot in slow motion. It’s a decaying echo of something that could have been meaningful but got poisoned by antis until there was nothing left but noise, spite, and empty slogans. It’s a place where lying about canon is more popular than reading it. Where mobs of teens post accusations with zero evidence and call it activism. Where anyone who expresses empathy for a complex character gets accused of romanticizing war crimes by people who don’t know the difference between fiction and reality.
You turned this into a toxic circus of moral performance. You made it unwelcoming. You made it hostile. You killed creativity and replaced it with fear. Fanartists stopped drawing. Writers deleted their fics. People deleted their blogs. And for what? To prove to strangers online that you are the most morally clean person in a space built around fictional war and political violence?
Antis destroyed this place. Not by being critical. Criticism is valid. What they brought wasn’t criticism. It was harassment disguised as ethics. It was personal attacks, false accusations, dogpiling, and guilt-tripping people for enjoying fictional characters in a fictional setting. You don’t create anything. You don’t uplift anything. You don’t think. You attack, you accuse, you twist every single line to justify your self-importance, and then you wonder why people leave.
You didn’t just ruin the fandom.
You erased the reason anyone came here in the first place. Bravo!
