WWE: UNREAL | S3E1 "The Why"
A Psalm for the Wild-Built.
(I think we need something summery and positive. Iād highly recommend Becky Chamberās Monk & Robot series of books; a solarpunk dream with a healthy mix of philosophical journeys.)
When #myshane retires, he doesnāt go into coaching or podcasting or whatever.
He becomes a consultant who shitty teams trying to not suck, good teams who want to last further into the playoffs, great teams who want to finally win the cup, call to Fix Them.
He is paid absolutely bonkers amounts of money to watch a team play for five minutes and immediately diagnose whatās wrong with them. He is always right.
Ok 5 minutes is probably an exaggeration. The coaches send him a bunch of tape to review in advance. They probably focus on their best players or the ones they think need the most improvement, but half the time Shane requests more, focusing on players they hadnāt paid much attention to before. Then one day at practice, the players look up into the stands and are filled with awe, terror, and wonder, because Shane Hollander is sitting there staring directly at them with a scarily thoughtful look on his face.
He meets with the coaches and gm and reports his conclusions. Who to trade and for who , how to get better results from certain players, how to run power plays and penalty kills, changes in line makeups.
Some lucky players get to meet with him. He takes about five minutes to list off or demonstrate everything they need to do to stop sucking. He has no time for chit chat or hero worship. Focus, listen, learn, and do exactly what he says and you will be good. Fail to do what he says and you will shame your entire bloodline.
I think that, if heās not the one actually playing, this would be a dream job. It involves Knowing Things About Hockey, Judging Shitty Hockey Players, Getting Recognized As The Best at Hockey, Being Correct, and Making Hockey Better. He should get to do all these things
I will add that he contracts Yuna and Svetlana to do research on players and coaches. They get so good that the league starts requiring that he sign contracts saying he will never acquire ownership of any teams. And when teams sign him on they MUST agree to sensitivity training before he even starts his evaluations.
a ton of people have unexpectedly followed me over the last 2 days so here is my rent-lowering gunshot:
the american south is the most racially diverse and poorest region of the united states, and any political sentiment that treats the south is stupid or expendable is inherently racist and classist. a lot of y'all are racist and classist. the south is also the heart of american culture. argue with a wall. you cannot deny that everybody in the entire world does not emulate artists from atlanta. there is vested interest in keeping the south poor and uneducated BECAUSE this is the most racially diverse region in this country. if you actually give a fuck about progress, you would fight for the south, not mock us.
vic michaelis has enchanted me once again with their clear desire to win when theyāre on game changer and their complete inability to do so due to the Bit calling to them like venom
Tumblr I need everyone to log in rn because the most important, quotable, instantly iconic celebrity post of the century just dropped
A ship ā a magnificent ship ā full of gay men. And me.
I am furious, but I am sailing.
paul refeereno and paul robailiffo should fall in love. get foremanlino involved, call that a paulycule
body positivity can be so hard when ur chronically ill like āyour body loves you and is doing its best to care for you ā¤ļøā NO THE FUCK IT IS NOT
Actually can I just slide in here for a secondā
Iād like to start off saying I never do this. I never reblog with comments, and I try to keep to myself in this online space. But I really, truly understand where youāre coming from and I can say with the whole of my very ample bosom I get it. I do. Iāve had chronic pain and illness my entire life, and Iāve always punished my body for it.
Last year in October, that all changed. I saw a woman on Reels talking about how smart our bodies were because they were basically data centers compiling all the information of our hurts and horrors and running it in real time against our current environment and the simultaneously reacting to keep us safe.
And for some reason, that really resonated with me. My body didnāt hurt me to punish me for trying to live; it was trying to keep me still so the bad shit that hurt us so badly in the past wouldnāt happen again.
Thatās like. Really, really smart for a non-sentient being. It gave me a totally different, instant reframe. You mean my meat suit shuts down when I go to work conferences because being in social situations around my peers as a child meant I was going to be othered and ostracized? You mean my body freezes when I try to talk to someone Iām sexually attracted to because having sex has meant harm, historically?
I keep getting sick when I go on job interviews because when I was growing up, having any money at all made me a target?
Iām not sure if anyone will ever see this, but my life was changed by this reframe. My body is smart, albeit a bit stubborn, but mostly working off of outdated data.
If I can feed it new data, I can change the data set for the future. Iām still working out the how for me personally. But I hope this helps you, just a tiny bit, the way it helped me. A glimmer of hope on the horizon can make all the difference.
I love the opening of Heated Rivalry so much because it sets up the show and Shane and Ilya's dynamic so perfectly. From "not the most sociable" Shane Hollander actively going out of his way to interact (because he's already fascinated by him) to "not liked outside of his own locker room" Ilya Rozanov being a bit of a cocky shit (which we pretty quickly realise is a front) to the instant spark of attraction.
Look at this man experiencing freckles and awkward Canadian politeness and developing a fat crush.
My favourite part however is as Shane is leaving clearly uncomfortable with how their conversation went (he does a head tilt like "well, that went horribly")
Ilya notices and that's when he chirps, immediately making Shane more comfortable as he chirps back. And thus, their lovingly teasing, when they say "asshole" and "boring" they really mean "I love you" dynamic is born.
Also, yes, Ilya's lighter doesn't spark until Shane appears which is just an additional beautiful touch.
Ilya's so lucky Shane never hooked up with another man before him, someone who could've told him he didn't need to say "please" in bed, or made him feel embarrassed about folding his clothes, or showed him what casual sex actually looks like (thus cutting Ilya's time of feasibly insisting that what's going on between them is casual down by like 80%). Like, Ilya dickmatized that boy at 19, before anyone else could get to him, and he can thank his lucky stars.

The dude in bright orange with the orange umbrella that looks like a peacocks tail.... FAVE
Seen someone say āI canāt die, I got graves to dance on that hasnāt been dug yet.ā And honestly, that goes hard. We need to keep that energy.
Steve Irwin in a Jaeger would be entertaining.

Americans realizing we have a Team USA and we are not, in fact, just "hosting our friends" from around the world ā mostly because we won our first match and our team is decent??? Not amazing but not the worst.
Side rant: us women's football team is legendary good and we should care about that more like. Hello???
Understanding that America really is that fucking hot and summer is just starting
Related: the english team did warm ups in Florida RIP, and also the there's a video of the French team just being like fuck the heat, fuck the sun, this is so hot...
Americans who do not normally care about international football but fucking love a sport and cheering so we're just hyping whatever team is nearby, like we see a party and just show up and learn the chant. Like sorry many of us don't know shit about soccer but if we see a bunch of people in viking helmets or kilts or holding a bunch of flags and cheering we're game.
TAILGATING!!!!
I already said this but American yellow school bus is an international celebrity
The Scottish drank Boston dry of beer apparently, like they quadrupled what Boston normally sells for fourth of July weekend. SAM ADAMS HAD TO GET AN EMERGENCY BEER DELIVERY.
Also the English team fans got kicked out of The Londoner pub in Dallas after drinking 5,000 beers and going over max capacity lmao
Free refill drinks, tortilla chips & salsa.
So many non-americans are going to be here for the 4th of July for our 250th anniversary which is going to be great and hilarious

Japan's homebase is in Texas and the cultural differences are frankly great and also the Japanese fans are SO NICE and helped clean up the stadium after a match???
All the short videos with the eagle screech (which I think is actually a red tail hawk but whatever)
Embarrassing fact about me is that it took me so so long to be able to tell Ross Bryant and Grant O'Brien apart. I'm sorry guys you're both tall white dudes with similar-sounding names and very very similar voices. I would just wait for the first sex joke or Shakespeare reference.
I feel better now because everyone in the notes is like "yeah same".
Every day I receive further vindication
