as recently as March of this year, the Milwaukee protocol has been found to be ineffective in all 64 cases of human rabies infections it’s been used to control since it’s inception in 2004. The initial success of the Milwaukee protocol is more likely due to an immunological difference due to the type of lyssavirus in the infected person that we do not currently have the technology to identify; the use of the Milwaukee protocol has actually hindered research in therapeutic protocols for rabies infections the past 20 years, especially in LEDCs where rabies is more prevalent.

if you have been exposed to rabies, or have had contact with an animal you suspect to be rabid, it is imperative that you get a full course of post-exposure prophylactic rabies vaccinations as soon as possible, ideally within the first 24 hours of exposure. By the time rabies becomes symptomatic, it is already too late, and the only treatment that is 100% effective all of the time is palliative care.

Symptoms of rabies in animals include; hydrophobia, excessive salivation resulting in foaming of the mouth, agitation, poor motor control (in bats, this can include inability to fly), increased biting/attempting to bite, and abnormal daylight activity in nocturnal animals.

If you witness these symptoms, contact animal control in your area and do not approach or handle the animal; if you have handled a smaller animal, like a bat, it is, again, imperative you get post-exposure rabies vaccination, as bats are capable of breaking skin with bites with no visible bite marks or bleeding.

You can minimise the risk of exposure to rabies infections by ensuring your pets are immunised against rabies, ensuring that fences etc., are flush to the ground/posts are secure to minimise exposure via wildlife, and keeping pets on leash during walks in areas like nature preserves, wildlife reserves with dog trails etc., and reporting suspected rabies infections of wildlife to animal control.

(Also while it is incredibly rare, like only one case in my country rare, even rabies free countries still have other lyssaviruses that are functionally just rabies, including the rabies vaccine working to prevent death. Don't fuck with bats, but if you do, even in a rabies-free country, get the vaccine)

Occasionally when you are viewing bats in the wild, a bat will crash into you. Even in the UK, there is a CHANCE the bat is carrying European Bat Lyssavirus 1 or 2 - especially serotines, daubentons, and soprano pips. Just get a rabies jab if one has crashed, brushed or tangled up on you, it's only one normal jab now rather than the five big grim ones into the belly, and it is ten thousand times easier than dying of rabies.

Very explicitly, in the video, the regular police straight up lie to the couple, telling them they will go to jail for harboring a fugitive if they dont hand the doordasher over, and that it doesnt matter if ice has a warrant for her arrest. NEITHER OF THESE THINGS ARE TRUE. You CANNOT be harboring a fugitive if the person you are haboring doesnt have a warrant out for their arrest! The warrant is what makes them a fugitive!

If ice wants access to someone on your property, do NOT hand them over unless you are shown a warrant signed by a judge! Make as much noise as you can to attract bystanders - it was the fact that a crowd gathered and started yelling at them that made ice leave in the video. And DO NOT expect the regular police to help you - they are just another arm of the state and will only do or say whatever they think is necessary to make you comply.

And make sure you film everything so you have evidence of what really happened if ice tries to enter your property illegally.
