not enough people talking about this
helpful sites for writers
i have a little collection of websites i tend to use for coming up with ideas, naming people or places, keeping clear visuals or logistics, writing basics about places i've never been to, and so on. i tend to do a lot of research, but sometimes you just need quick references, right? so i thought i'd share some of them!
Behind the Name; good for name meanings but also just random name ideas, regardless of meanings.
Fantasy Name Generator; this link goes to the town name generator, which i use most, but there are lots of silly/fun/good inspo generators on there!
Age Calculator; for remembering how old characters are in Y month in Z year. i use this constantly.
Height Comparison; i love this for the height visuals; does character A come up to character B's shoulder? are they a head taller? what does that look like, height-wise? the chart feature is great!
Child Development Guide; what can a (neurotypical, average) 5-year-old do at that age? this is a super handy quickguide for that, with the obviously huge caveat that children develop at different paces and this is not comprehensive or accurate for every child ever. i like it as a starting point, though!
Weather Spark; good for average temperatures and weather checking!
Green's Dictionary of Slang; good for looking up "would x say this?" or "what does this phrase mean in this context?" i love the timeline because it shows when the phrase was historically in use. this is english only, though; i dig a little harder for resources like this in other languages.

Y’all this is important!!!
Hey everybody, this post most of the links are broken which prompted me to make these lists instead.
All resources linked were vetted by me, general resources are queer and disability inclusive, and cover the topic of abuse. Intersex resourc
Because the popular one going around since 2014 that's got 630,000 notes is full of broken links Educational videos with Sexplanations/Dr.
Because treating people fairly often means treating them differently.
This is something that I teach my students during the first week of school and they understand it. Eight year olds can understand this and all it costs is a box of band-aids.
I have each students pretend they got hurt and need a band-aid. Children love band-aids. I ask the first one where they are hurt. If he says his finger, I put the band-aid on his finger. Then I ask the second one where they are hurt. No matter what that child says, I put the band-aid on their finger exactly like the first child. I keep doing that through the whole class. No matter where they say their pretend injury is, I do the same thing I did with the first one.
After they all have band-aids in the same spot, I ask if that actually helped any of them other than the first child. I say, “Well, I helped all of you the same! You all have one band-aid!” And they’ll try to get me to understand that they were hurt somewhere else. I act like I’m just now understanding it. Then I explain, “There might be moments this year where some of you get different things because you need them differently, just like you needed a band-aid in a different spot.”
If at any time any of my students ask why one student has a different assignment, or gets taken out of the class for a subject, or gets another teacher to come in and help them throughout the year, I remind my students of the band-aids they got at the start of the school year and they stop complaining. That’s why eight year olds can understand equity.
I remember reading somewhere once “we should be speaking of equity instead of equality” and that is a principle that applies here me thinks

Maids, cleaners, janitors, and sanitation workers are all the most important people of civilization by far. Even 12 hours without them is VERY noticable and they simply need to be highly compensated for it
'Six AM', 1930 - William Wolfson
Hi, I'm a janitor. The facility I work in had its first floor flooded with sewage and while a restoration company came and sucked up all the water and placed fans everywhere to try the place out, I still cleaned the entire floor and threw away all the contaminated furniture. Same thing happened last year, but only a couple of rooms flooded on that floor and it was only water from a sprinkler system. This year was so much worse and I feel like no one in management gives a shit. The entire upstairs was absolutely going to shit because I was focused on the downstairs. Despite the work I do, I have to beg folks to spread around my little bear commission posts every month because I simply can't afford to live on what I'm paid lol
So, truly thanks to everyone who makes and shares posts like these recognizing sanitation workers. It's really a thankless job.
if this gets 50,000 notes before midnight cst today (9/20/23) ends i'll tell my final crush my thoughts and then i can get on with my life
this is fun for me to watch because its literally not possible to do in 10 hours but people will try anyway
Otome Isekai Male lead Tournament submission
I just wanna say thank you to everyone who voted and interacted with the interest pole and allowed this to happen. Now this tournament is fairly self explanatory but there will be a twist at the end which i will explain later. But for those who need it explained the goal of this tournament is to vote on your favorite male lead, making enemies, allies and maybe even your own lead in an attempt to crown the number 1 Male lead of Otome isekai’s.
What Qualifies as an Otome isekai Male lead?
-Must be from an Otome isekai(manhwa, manga, game, webtoon, novel, and manhua all count)
-Must be a present male character in the story
-Must be interested in the female lead romantically(Can be a main male lead, second male lead or even apart of the harem)
-Must be fictional.
————————————————————————
Now here is where the twist comes in
Due to the nature of some OI’s getting explicit i decided to separate it into two tournaments one being for Spicy oi’s and one being for Pg to PG13 oi’s so people who wanna submit those ml’s still have a chance too. The rules above still apply but my only requirement for this is for any of the characters you submit to look and be above the age of 18. And no one under the age of 18 submitting characters or voting on these tournaments. If you are under the age of 18 and i catch you interacting or voting on any of the spicy tournaments you will be swiftly blocked and banned from competing in the further matches you have been warned.
Thank you for taking the time to submit your entry for this tournament!
If you have any Questions regarding this tournament or survey please do not feel bad or afraid to dm me.
List of People who could use this:
-Trans women (cosplayers and non-cosplayers)
- Cis Women who feel too shy to actually show off their chest but still want to pull this off
- Cis women with small chests who also want to be true the characters.
- Pretty much any dude who wants to cosplay as a female character
- Anyone who wants to piss off Travis
Reblog to piss off Travis and support trans women + male cosplayers
Hello to everyone out there! I was inspired by my own friend making a poll for hot dads which you should definitely check out. But anyway i decided to do a poll based off otome isekai male leads’s. So i was just curious, would you guys be interested in this being a thing?

Hot Dads in Media Tournament Submissions Survey
First of all I would once again like to thank those who expressed an interest in this tournament by participating in the interest poll and reblogging it. This tournament is pretty self explanatory, but I’ll say it anyways. Through multiple rounds you (🫵🏼) will vote alongside your comrades/temporary rivals to help your Dad win, and hopefully will be crowned the Hottest Dad in Media™️.
What Qualifies as a Dad?:
Your Dad must be a Dad
Adopted, Found Family, and Uncle who mainly acts as the Dad are Dads.
Your Dad has to be a fictional character
Ex: Live Action, Lego, cartoon, video game, and comic book Bruce Wayne is a fictional dad
Dad must have at least one scene where they’re taking care of their kid(s)
HE AIN’T A DILF IF HE DOESN’T TAKE CARE OF HIS KIDS!
Thank you for taking the time to submit a potential winner! The rules can be seen in the post this came with, but if you have any questions
Of course if you have any questions regarding this tournament or the submissions survey then feel free to send me an ask. Have a good day!
it's poor form to air your petty grievances with someone when it comes out they did something actually bad. save that for companies, like when you learn duolingo removed kanji from its beginner's japanese courses as part of their collab with crunchy roll
duolingo is shit for japanese imo*, here are some apps i reccommend:
Hey Japan - comes with a cute shiba inu bc fuck that aggressive owl. its basically duolingo made specifically for japanese and much better at teaching you HOW the language works.
Kanji Study - its the grey one, made by one person. it covers the first 80 kanji plus the main radicals that make kanji up, PLUS hiragana and katakana FOR FREE. you can practice by drawing, flash cards, multiple choice, and you can decide whether you read or select the romanji/character/meaning. i learned hiragana in 5 days using this. the upgraded version (one time payment) with higher level kanji goes on sale a few times a year, consider supporting the app if you find it useful
Todai - more advanced but good for reading comprehension. japanese news in... japanese. highlights which JLPT level words are and gives percentages of each level for each article. has inbuilt dictionary to check words you dont know.
Takoboto - my preferred japanese dictionary but there are loads out there. i like it bc i can search in english, romanji, kana, or kanji and it breaks down kanji compounds into individual characters. it also shows different conjugations eg: to eat, eating, ate, to be able to eat, etc
those are just the phone apps i use, there are so many other resources out there that are free and not pulling bullshit like skipping one of the 3 'alphabets' of a language
*to be clear the reason i think duolingo is shit for japanese is that it doesnt follow the JLPT pathway. which... you dont NEED exactly, but i think the country that had to make a new, easier language profiency test bc not enough people were passing the existing one will know how to build courses that teach their language. plus duolingo is doing *gestures* whatever shit that is up top.
if you seriously want to learn japanese, memorise your kana (drop romanji asap or youll forever struggle and I'll come to kick your shins) and find the ebook of genki 1 that someone uploaded, or some other JLPT N5 course. but NOT duolingo.
Edit: just realised that duolingo may be your only real option if your first language isnt english (too easy for me to forget, sorry). in that case, make sure you supplement duolingo with your own kanji study!!!
Link to all the Genki exercises that let’s you do them in different ways (writing, matchups, multiple choice etc)

A recipe for finding your story's plot:
Ingredients:
2 cups of Things that must be in the story (this can be characters, specific scenes, settings, subplots etc.)
1 cup of Vague plot ideas I may not use
1 tbsp of Central Themes
1 tsp of Ending (either happy, tragic, or bitter-sweet)
1 tsp of Protagonist's Primary Motivation
2 lbs of Brick Wall
Time, as needed
Instructions:
In a large bowl, mix Things that must be in the story. Set aside.
In a separate bowl, sift together Vague plot ideas I may not use. Discard the excess and set aside.
Add Themes, Ending, and Motivation to a small jar. Screw lid on tight and shake until mixture becomes Conflict.
Pour Conflict and Vague plot ideas into Things that must be in the story. Blend on medium until Plot Points form.
Taste.
If it is still missing something, smash head against 1 lbs of Brick Wall for one to six hours.
Let marinate for one to 365 days. Add more Things and Vague plot ideas as desired.
Smash head against the rest of the Brick Wall for one to six hours.
Scream.
Repeat steps 5 through 9 as needed.
After sufficient marination, the mixture will form an idea. This will tell you what specific action must happen in order to resolve your story's conflict. Write this down and make appropriate sacrifices to thank whichever deity took pity on you.
Now you have your conflict, climax, and resolution. You just have to figure out how to get there. Good luck with the damn middle section dork!!
