Today I finally bought a hobonichi weeks type of journal. I can't wait to experiment with different layouts to see what works best for me! I've been wanting to go back to paper for scheduling my week and today was the day I found just what I was looking for

PhD Day 69: I've been incredibly unproductive for the past week. Today I couldn't focus all day and only got into my reading 1h ago. Should I ruin my sleep schedule or should I go to sleep and just force myself to get shit done tomorrow morning?

I just saw a response to a lovely original post about making humane arguments against the use of genAI as a substitute for academic work that said (inter alia):

"can we please stop legitimizing idea that either most people who are in school are there to learn or that they should be coerced into [learning] if they're not?"

Great Caesar's ghost. Stop "legitimizing" the idea that the university is *checks notes* an academic institution? An institution of *checks notes again* higher education? The purpose of which is to *checks notes yet again* help students learn? I say again: great Caesar's ghost. Counterpoint: Stop ceding the corporate takeover of the university! Stop ceding the commodification of education! Stop viewing education as a product/commodity rather than a process!

Done for today! I've been revising and talking to my lil ghost (is this the new duck?). Have a test tomorrow, didn't study as much as I wanted to (poor time management from yours truly), but after that I'll have some more time hopefully.

Feeling a bit lonely, but it's just one of those moments that will pass.

Wrote and edited an assignment today, sat at my desk for an obscenely long time then edited in a comfy chair as a treat.

I still can’t shake my preference for editing on paper - when I edit first directly into the document I magically lose the ability to remember what I was trying to say lmao.
