im not kidding when i say it makes your life 1000x easier when it comes to this subject if you just abandon the vegan vs antivegan dichotomy entirely and invest in learning about food sovereignty

for those who have never heard about it: "Food sovereignty, a term coined by members of Via Campesina in 1996, asserts that the people who produce, distribute, and consume food should control the mechanisms and policies of food production and distribution, rather than the corporations and market institutions that have come to dominate the global food system. It also encompasses the right of peoples to healthy and culturally appropriate food and their right to define their own food and agriculture systems. The phrase "culturally appropriate" signifies that the food that is available and accessible for the population should fit with the cultural background of the people consuming it."

food sovereignty is inclusive of both vegan diets and those who cannot go vegan whether it's because of chronic illness, sustenance needs or anything else

it also addresses the economic root cause of animal and land exploitation, ie who controls the means of production and whether their goals are to feed the people or expand profit margins

food sovereignty is an indigenous and peasent led movement that seeks to end the abuse of land and animals by empowering the workers who grow and harvest our food instead of greedy corporations

i highly suggest checking out via campesina's website to start learning about food sovereignty and i encourage everyone to stop investing so much time in endless arguments about veganism when we could all be doing much more useful things to organize against the big agribusiness that is harming all of us– humans, animals and the land

This question either misunderstands or misrepresents the argument: what the left actually favors is labor rights, to redress the balance of power between employers and workers. In a capitalist society, when you criminalize something, capitalism still happens in that market. When we are asked, in a capitalist society, to choose between criminalizing or decriminalizing commercial sex, we are not offered an option for the “free market” to not govern the proceedings. In fact, capitalism is in many ways at its most intense in criminalized markets. With commercial sex criminalized, there can be no workers’ rights, whereas with commercial sex decriminalized, people who sell sex can access labor law and other kinds of protection afforded on legal job sites.

I read all the health pamphlets as a child.

“Look for lumps,” they said, “watch out for unusual lumps and discharge.”

They did NOT say, “By the way, some areolas have little bumps on them. And some get pimple-ish things around the edges. Or on the nipples. These are not the lumps we are talking about, and that is not the discharge we are talking about.”

I spent years worrying about whether I had breast cancer. (I got exams, every year or two, and those were always fine and I stopped worrying. Mostly. But then a new tiny bump would show up on the edges and I would wonder IS THIS IT? …but not ask to see a doctor because 14-year-old girls worry about everything, all the time, and six months ago the doctor poked at my breasts and didn’t say anything alarming, so this is… probably fine? Like last time?)

I had a slightly more present and caring doctor tell me what I need to be looking for specifically are lumps that feel like peas or grains of rice.

That distinction cleared so much up for me, like, breast tissue is all lumps and bumps normally (which is what mamories feel like to me). What the hell do they mean by lumps????
