i respect all of the hucklerobby shippers, truly i do. i read a wonderful reddit comment a few days ago that perfectly outlined why the ship is so popular and fun to ship in fandom spaces. in fact, a few years ago i would be all over this ship

It’s tempting to hate Arthur.

He’s arrogant, and rude, and stubborn and dismissive and condescending. His father orders executions of people like Merlin, and Arthur complies with barely a second thought. He knows nothing about common people and doesn’t make an effort to learn. Merlin mucks out Arthur’s stables three times a week (despite expressly being told by the stable boys that it is not his job), suffers bruises all over from “helping” Arthur train, endures relentless teasing, and saves his arse with absolutely no thanks day in and day out.

But also, maybe—well. Merlin certainly isn’t prepared to swear to it yet, but there is the slightest chance that Arthur is…kind. He’s a prat about that too, of course, noble to a fault and embarrassingly chivalrous. He clumsily comforts his men and stumbles over doing the Right Thing, and it’s awful. Merlin hates watching Arthur put his heart and soul into everything. He hates watching him care. It’s always shut down by Uther. Arthur has so much good in him that wants to reach out; wants to help. Merlin can’t stand it. He’s only known Arthur a few weeks, but every time Arthur shows his hand, Merlin sees a young boy desperate for love and denied it at each turn.

Merlin wonders if that’s why he’s arrogant and rude and stubborn; if being an utter prat helps him push people away before they get a chance to reject him. And all that is plain on Arthur’s face to anyone who bothers to get to know him.

So yes, Arthur makes it very tempting to hate him. But Merlin’s far more terrified of the temptation to love him.

okay well no one asked but i do think the funniest thing rachel reid could do right now is write another hockey book but this time from the pov of Ilya’s (unnamed?) niece who gets into hockey specifically with the goal of being a better player than her uncle (who she’s been brought up to think is a dick because obvious Alexei isn’t speaking kindly about him at home)

And yeah she goes to north america as the pwhl mlwh is getting popular in a big way, and becomes a lil bit of a media darling (especially after the media finds out who she’s related to) and she doesn’t care for the comparisons except for when she’s beating uncle Ilya’s stats (which she does, repeatedly)

So many she’s got a best (guy) friend who she grew up skating with in Russia and in niche hockey circles they’re assumed to be an item all the time which is soooo annoying because they’re literally good friends but nobody believes them no matter how hard they try

Enter a beautiful rose-landry-type for her to secret romance with! Maybe it’s a little jealousy-to-lovers or maybe they just click but idk either way can anyone else see the vision??
