I'm PeridotLion, previously scottish-purple-shrubbery here on Tumblr. I wasn't satisfied with that name and changed it. I'm an Ontario Canadian and have been since 1997.

I'm a fic writer and artist, but I write more than I draw nowadays. I'm always bouncing from fandom to fandom because I'm a diagnosed neurodivergent and I write all this for fun as a pastime.

Many centuries following the fall of the Kingdom of XianLe, a Heavenly Dragon, a being supposedly sworn to defend the Empeor without question, attacked the Jun Wu. For Feng Xin, it disrupted his world in another way. Someone who had been a constant companion, despite their animosity, vanished. Mu Qing was missing. or: Dragonification AU with Mu Qing being the one to do the stupid thing. This comes from Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

SERVICE DOG PSA

So today I tripped. Fell flat on my face, it was awful but ultimately harmless. My service dog, however, is trained to go get an adult if I have a seizure, and he assumed this was a seizure (were training him to do more to care for me, but we didn’t learn I had epilepsy until a year after we got him)

I went after him after I had dusten off my jeans and my ego, and I found him trying to get the attention of a very annoyed woman. She was swatting him away and telling him to go away. So I feel like I need to make this heads up

If a service dog without a person approaches you, it means the person is down and in need of help

Don’t get scared, don’t get annoyed, follow the dog! If it had been an emergency situation, I could have vomited and choked, I could have hit my head, I could have had so many things happen to me. We’re going to update his training so if the first person doesn’t cooperate, he moves on, but seriously guys. If what’s-his-face could understand that lassie wanted him to go to the well, you can figure out that a dog in a vest proclaiming it a service dog wants you to follow him

i DO believe that a good writer can make mischaracterization work. oh there's a character who doesn't normally cry? figure it out!! disect the character. make the situation cryable for them. make that character cry ugly tears even if it goes against their very nature. YOU CAN MAKE IT WORK!!!

A great piece of advice I've seen is "Don't fixate about what the character would never do. Think about the circumstances that would drive them to do this, even if they wouldn't normally."

A tribute piece of crossover fanart for Knights of the Light Table's work on what's now two of my favorite music videos of all time: Starlight Brigade and Neon Odyssey. I was so moved and inspired by their latest animation, and the pure artistry and passion that went into it, that I had to draw something to celebrate both with a shared theme of space. Thought it be cool to team up Strive and Pyke in one image. They're my big favs and I really wanted to do them justice while pushing myself on the background to hopefully capture that wonder and awe of space. :) Starlight Brigade Neon Odyssey

Can Chuuya feel where the sun is?

I was just thinking that a popular headcanon for firebenders in A:tLA is that they can tell where the sun is because its the source of fire and are able to tell the time by that and I had a thought.

First off, im not a scientist or that knowledgeable about physics so i could be waaaaay off but...

The Earth orbits around the sun due to the gavatational pull of Sol. Our orbirt is not consistent because we wobble away from it every once and a while but we're always pulled back after a while.

By gravity.

So...if we play with the idea that Chuuya can sense the gravity around him, kinda like Tophs Earth Sense, could he feel where the sun is?

And if he does, does that interfere with his ability to feel the magnetic pulls of the poles so he has no sense of directions?

Could he feel where the moon is?

Okay I looked it up.

The poles are affected by magnetism and not gravity so Chuuya would not be able to tell which way north and south is with his Ability, he would have to do it like any other person (unless the people that experimented on him did something so he would be able to sense it but thats too much of a rabbit hole rn I'm already going insane with this one)

Which means a couple of things!

1. He would be able to tell which way West and East is if he knew what time of day it was without looking at the sun

2. If he's for some reason tied to Dazai and theyre forced to navigate an areas he would be useless, with his normal way to orientate himself taken away by No Longer Human

Also. I found another way for Chuuya to be even more OP the he already is.

I figured out that every time he makes something float, he has to be still keeping some earths gravitational pull on whatever hes making fly, because if he didnt, whatever he had put in zero gravity would keep moving with the speed the earth is spinning at but in a straight line. They would eventually leave the atmosphere because they would not be drawn to the earth's surface.

hello a question. what are beginner horse riders tending to sit on if not their butts? why do they need to be so frequently reminded to sit on their butts?

Because they don’t! Most humans have DOGSHIT POSTURE and are EMBARRASSING and GHASTLY TO BEHOLD.

The natural instinct of the Untutored Monkey in Distress is to tip forward shambolically, clinging to the ancestral tree, like a bereft shrimp. This is the unhandsome posture in which people answer emails, sit upon fellow-creatures, and, regrettably, attempt to flirt.

It is clearly mildly frustrating for any horse to tolerate this clinging-to-the-neck behaviour. In addition to the lack of decorum, you’re forcing their neck to hold your bodyweight. They can’t hear your signals and you are constricting their movement, like a child who accepts a piggyback ride, and then throttles you.

Correct posture, I’ll quickly remind us all, is SHOULDERS OVER HIPS. The weight of your upper body should be balanced through the spine which means OVER THE HIPS, you horrid shrimp. 🦐

This posture is so rare, and so alien to basic humans, that it feels like a synthetic adjustment. Many untutored humans genuinely struggle to connect their body with this instruction. A rider in a position of calm connection feels - to a common lay person of poor posture - to be leaning backwards.

So riding instructors say: sit on your sitbones. Lean BACK. Sit on your BUM.

It’s like the common riding instruction to put your heels down. in truth, the correct posture for hunt seat and other active disciplines is flat-footed. You have to scream “heels down” to get the Average Body to assemble their skeleton into a connected, responsive posture that will feel INCREDIBLY artificial to them - but the “correct” pose isn’t “heels down”!

What the hell would a pre-canon but still ADA teenage Ranpo and Yosano do for fun?

I'm trying to work on my ADA-Chuuya fic and I'm drawing a blank for this. I need them to spend some time with Chuuya thats not overly heavy or plot focused and I just can't think of anything

The most interesting question you can ask about any character is not what do they want. it's what do they believe they deserve. because those two things are almost never the same and the gap between them is where your entire story lives. a person can want love completely and believe they don't deserve it and that belief will destroy every good thing that comes toward them in ways they won't even notice they're doing. write the gap. the gap is the character.
