The amount of safety features incorporated into modern cars is unreal. I've seen crashes where the car flipped over and the occupant only had minor injuries. My dad was t-boned by someone speeding off the highway and walked away with a broken arm. I totaled my first car. Like, the car itself just stopped where the windshield met the dashboard. Ahead of that point, there was no more car. It was gone.

Me? I had some really spectacular bruises and a lil friction burn on my nose from where Mr. Airbag and Ms. Glasses had a disagreement. That's it. That's it.

I was driving a little tiny coupe and went more or less head-on with a pickup truck. The entire engine and hood of my car was twisted rubble that was not connected to the rest of the car afterward. I sat down on the verge, about twenty or thirty feet from the accident, while I waited for the cops and EMTs to work their way through the traffic backup to get to us, and found that I was sitting beside one of the headlights of my car. The whole entire headlight, bulb and reflector and cover and frame and all.

All I had were bruises and that little friction burn. That's it.

I’m not going to research into why it is in there (in small amounts as a PH stabilizer), it’s hydrochloric acid (the human body creates it naturally) and they’re trying to inject this into our children!”

Unironically, I saw someone say to avoid citric acid in food products (it’s a common preservative and acidifier, very safe in moderation, occurs naturally in fruits and vegetables) because it is made of black mold. Which is partially correct, Aspergillus niger produces high amounts of citric acid when fed properly BUT the mold is completely filtered out of the final refined product. SO MANY FOOD PRODUCTS ARE MADE WITH MOLD, this one doesn’t have actual mold in it, you are fearmongering about the evils of mold while it lives all around us all the time!

You're allowed to call home whatever you want whenever you want. I for one have 2 homes and at some point had 3. One home is the town where I came from and one is my current abode. At the time I had three it was a hotel I was stuck in for an extended period. Its looking like I might end up with three again soon. Home can be your current base of operations, so as long as you feel like it should be home you can call it that.

What is the appeal of horror movies? I've never quite understood... Why would you want to be scared on purpose?

For a reason unknown to me, humans enjoy simulated danger. Because humans are good at noticing patterns and quite literally evolved in dark trees, we are rather good at reverting back to spotting danger in the darkness. This is more of a side effect rather than the main goal. Anyway, humans are predators and prey to a certain extent, which means two things for horror movies, we like to kill threats and we have a primal fear of being hunted. Horror movies will often tap into that fear, making suspense relatively easy to establish. The monster is very quickly made out to be a threat to the audience. Similar to a snake, we can now show an initially meek main character learn to fight back, and this is satisfying. There are of course other ways to structure the narrative but "Relatable Average Jane struggles with internal demons via external struggle" is pretty common. Even if they lose it can still be cathartic to see someone try and fail. This of course ties into the fact that horror movies, like all art, are political. Horror movies reflect the fears of the contemporary audience. They are the dark jester holding a mirror up to society, so again tying into catharsis. I forget what movie this is but there was one about a woman running from a man who kidnapped her and eventually killing him after he kills everyone who tried to help her, very easily could be seen as an allegory for misogyny. The Purge as well reflects the general discontent in the US by taking the government not caring about its citizens to the logical extreme of it literally not caring about any laws for 12 hours and a secret cabal conspiring to kill all undesirables through it.

So it's a combination of some people like to be scared in a safe way, they have satisfying story structures, and they are often intentionally political commentary (art).
