the concept and idea of “you can always start trying to be a better person” is extremely important to me both in media and irl and i continue to be deeply deeply disturbed by the trend on this site pushing that these ideas in media are bad writing or even morally reprehensible
because theyd rather someone stay terrible or just straight up die than become a better person
from a compassionate point of view it’s deeply distressing
and from a pragmatic point of view it’s outright frustrating
I think part of the pushback about this is the idea that, to “redeem” bad people, their victims must first forgive them for unforgivable acts.
This is false. No one is obligated to forgive you. You can learn from your mistakes and become the best, kindest person on earth, and the people you’ve hurt still won’t forgive you, and you’ll have to accept that. And that doesn’t mean you aren’t allowed to grow. Because we aren’t just “pure” or “sinful”, we’re complex.
My response to this fanfic, about the ambiguity of validating emotions vs dismissing emotions... due to consequences of others' actions for the benefit of greater success
"I feel like this ending is worthwhile, as it helps validate the concept of one's suffering and emotions... whether they are connected with reality or not, they are valid and are real.
Yes, Raphael & Leo did try to make the best decision that they believed would lead to greater success, but that doesn't excuse themselves of their actions, in hurting their younger brothers, albeit not physically, but emotionally and psychologically.
If this were to end as a hurt/comfort Fic, it would only teach the viewers that one's emotions are irrelevant when logic grants greater success.
I feel taking this life lesson irl would help people understand that it's okay to express emotions, it's okay to acknowledge emotions, so long as that emotion doesn't overstep boundaries and lead to homicidal/suicidal/manipulative actions that affect others physically/emotionally/psychologically/socially/even spiritually.
Donnie & Mikey made the right call in freeing Raphael & Leo, and even if they showed concern for their older brothers' lives, it doesn't automatically mean there was forgiveness.
You are not obligated to forgive someone, as forgiveness is not to grant peace for the other person, but for yourself instead. You may not ever feel ready, or comfortable, with forgiving the one who hurt you, but that doesn't mean you are in the wrong, nor does it mean you are wrong for holding those emotions due to the consequences.
What matters is you focus on the healing of yourself, and if it is to happen to grant peace for yourself, please do validate your emotions, even the ones that seem inconsequential/destructive, as they have underlining reasons behind their existence... You can be angry with someone who you love, and the strongest form of hate is to feel the need to protect oneself from getting hurt again from the ones you love most.
So long as you practice mindfulness, the validation of emotions, and the recognition that emotions don't have to drive oneself to act on said emotions, but rather express them and identify their origins to address the issue (if possible that is; sometimes further external support like therapy is required for self-healing) at hand, you have the privilege and right to know and express how you feel. You matter.
Like Mikey said, our emotions and choices are real, no matter the environment or form of reality. You are real.

Okay you know what?? Since today is the one year anniversary of The Crescent’s Ascent, what better time to post some excerpts of the sequel?? Feels right lol, and I hope you all enjoy! ^^

”Scowl, you’re cheating!” Donnie hissed, jabbing his controller in annoyance. “There’s no way you just made that move without some sort of dirty play, and I would know!”
”Sure, you keep telling yourself that Dee.” Leo teased. “Regretting that decision to make my prosthetic so efficient yet?”
”You know I could never regret that.” Donnie grumbled. “However I am definitely starting to regret letting you pick the game for our championship. You’re always better at the Lou Jitsu ones!”
”It’s all practice, my dear Watson.” Leo smirked, taking down Donnie’s character and watching the health bar drop satisfyingly. “And perhaps a hint of prodigious talent.”
It had been about three months since the whole ordeal with Big Mama, and Leo could feel the difference as he had finally begun to heal. He felt… lighter. Less tense. Peaceful. He still struggled sometimes with believing that his brothers shouldn’t have to deal with him, but throughout multiple Dr. Feelings sessions he was practicing combatting his intrusive thoughts with affirming sentences and talking through what he was thinking. It was an uphill climb, but the top was in sight and the view was worth it.
”Aaaaand looks like I remain as the champion.” Leo crowed as Donnie chucked his controller. Raph dove to catch it with a scolding look at his younger brother.
”Raph only saw that coming from a mile away.” The snapper sighed in relief and set it down gently on a side table. “You two get way too intense when gaming.”
”Way to go, Leo!” Mikey gave his older brother a fond hug, and Leo chuckled and embraced him back. “I was always cheering for you.”
”Scoff. You kept switching between the two of us depending on who was ahead.” Donnie muttered, and Leo waved him off.
”Thanks hermanito.” Leo made a show of giving his youngest brother a fist bump, watching as Donnie spluttered in irritation. “I mean, was there ever any doubt?”
”Yes, much doubt.” Donnie huffed at the same time as Mikey shook his head vigorously and chirped, “Never!”
Leo chuckled and yawned, stretching his arms back over his head. “Well that was fun but honestly I’m ready to hit the hay. Carrying that entire game was exhausting, something I’m sure you can’t relate to, DonTron.”
Donnie grumbled slightly but sighed. “Fine, go relish in your victory Nardo.” His eyes softened briefly before he took out his phone. “… Love you.”
Leo smirked fondly. “Awwwwww I love you too, Tello. See you guys in the morning!”
”’Night, Lee!” Mikey chirped, and Raph likewise exchange bedtime wishes with his brother before Leo headed to his train car.
The slider yawned as he shoved the curtain aside, flopping down on his bed comfortably and staring at the ceiling. It was crazy to think about just how much had happened since… then. He and Donnie were seventeen now and pestering Raph since they were officially teetering on adulthood, trying to push the independence limit as far as they could. Now Leo could even pull the ‘hey don’t boss me around I’m a poor little stubby’ card more often and the look on Raph’s face was priceless. Sure he would get chased around the lair for a bit and then got a lecture from Dr. Feelings but it was still so worth it. The slider smiled slightly and rolled over, clutching Lulu his unicorn plushie—named from his toddler years when he couldn’t quite pronounce Lou Jitsu—to his chest and gently petting the worn-down fur. He inhaled the familiar scent, letting the faint sounds of laughing from his brothers probably turning on a JJ movie comfort him. It felt so… normal. He never thought he’d ever be able to say that again after the Prison Dimension, but it was true. He didn’t feel the constant anxiety of trying to mask everything that had happened to him, and there was a strange sort of security in knowing that his brothers were aware of what he had gone through and still loved him the same. It was a solid truth to combat all those lying whispers that they would hate him if they knew the truth and had in a way reinforced the bond between them all.
They were proof of how real brothers should act.
Nothing like how Zephyr ever treated him.
Just the thought of that yokai made Leo tense up, phantom pain of his abuse crawling over his skin. His breath hitched as he closed his eyes, pressing Lulu into his plastron and letting the pressure ground him.

Such a touching sacrifice.
But why should the both of them suffer because of those ridiculously protective brothers of his? She was going crazy by herself. It had been three months! A quarter of a year.
Just like the quarter of the moon that always made her heartsick.
Big Mama scowled and stood, setting her tea aside on the bedside table and starting to pace. How could she take this kind of pain any longer? It was agony to be away from someone she loved dearly… they had been through so much together! Sure Zephyr had complicated things with his questionable teaching methods (she ignored the fact that she had permitted it), but she was always the one her darling little moon would come to when sad or scared. They had a special bond as she strove to protect him from a pathetic family that never appreciated him like she did.
A faint smile played at her lips as she pictured his clever wit, his strength and agility… he had been the only one to ever outsmart her in the Nexus! And after her training once he had become her son he was practically undefeatable. It was only his emotions and love for his brothers that was preventing him from staying in her arms forever, the son to a wonderful mother.
Big Mama glared around the room, the very city she was in a painful reminder of her time with Lou. She had loved that man and thought this place would be comforting, but now it was only taunting her with images of her ex and of her son. Crescent was technically of Lou Jitsu’s DNA, and he certainly proved it! His bright eyes, curious personality, desire to show off… yes it was just like her little snuggly-muffin. But now she was alone and that traitor who refused to continue helping her with her Nexus got to keep the closest thing to a child she ever had.
And she was certain that the red-eared slider missed her too.
How could he not?

Usually, there's an inconsistency of art styles used if it is indeed plagerized, which is just counterproductive for these lackadaisical users to do, since in the end, it only backfires and lowers their credibility not only in their content on display, but also their future, that is now destroyed due to their negligence and manipulation of using others' projects for their own benefit.
It's just sad. 🙎♀️

Last Series: Evil. Actually an amazing serie!! Pretty heavy on the religion but there's a piece of cake for evrybody. Religious or not. Definitely check it out!!
Last Movie: Ultraman(the last Netflix version). I'm pretty late on the hype but I liked it. It was a cute movie.

Reading: Welcome to the Hyunam-Dong Bookshop. I've already read this but I wanted to reread it because it's officially one of my comfort books. And also, many, many fanfictions, ahem.
Last Series: Gachiakuta. Haven't finished watching it yet, but it has a unique plot with loveable characters and the lore is quite intriguing as well. The artstyle is also just ugh, AMAZING! The music is catchy too~
Last Movie: Dead Poets Society. It's a good movie which teaches you valuable life lessons and the characters are people the audience can relate to greatly, especially the protagonist. Beware of the ending, though.
Last Song: Rendezvous by AHOF. I've never been a K-pop fan or stan before, but that was before I discovered AHOF. All of their songs are great and I've been listening to them nonstop every single day.
Coffee or Tea: I can't drink coffee because it gives me heart palpitations and is overall bad for my health. So tea it is, specifically honey lemon tea. Yum.
Working on: Another TCF Modern Au fanfic with Cale and KRS as its protagonists as per usual. Will try to experiment a different writing style and whatnot. And I should probably work on my WIPs...

Last film: uhhhhhhh oh! Everything Everywhere All At Once! Watched it on the plane last flight :) really good!!! Of course I vibe with absurdism in general, but the execution and unflinching ridiculousness of it all was 11/10. You’ve GOTTA play a story like this straight and sincere and by god they DID it

Reading: False Knees (amazing birb comics), Unlearning Shame by Devon Price (audiobook but ima still count it; great read if you struggle with being "enough" in societal standards but even if you don't, it's pretty eye-opening and I'd recommend it), many webtoons but recently more of letters on the wall, teenage mercenary, spell for a smith, unordinary, and eleceed. I started ORV side stories a while ago and I lost the tab so I needa go back and find it; also need to catch up on sxf manga
Last series: Succession, I'm watching it with some college friends and it's not normally my cup of tea but it's very interesting. Other than that, then spy x family s3 which has been great :D

Coffee or Tea: ok so it depends. coffee in the morning, tea in the afternoon/evening. in the morning I prefer black coffee (or espresso if im desperate and in a rush/will not have access to a restroom soon lmfao), in the afternoon/evening im open to trying all kinds of lattes etc, i do love a good matcha latte or vanilla latte. i used to be a huge yerba mate consumer in college but no more!! i never want to relive that aspect again, i try not to have more than 2-3 cups of coffee in a day anymore (typically it's just 1 now). herbal tea (am a fan of chamomile) if i don't need caffeine/need a warm drink.
Working on: myself! i've recently been working on learning more about myself and my preferences and why i react/feel certain ways about certain things which has been both eye-opening and frustrating lmao. nothing fandom related as of late, ive barely had the energy to consume webtoons here and there which is kinda sad but work is seriously draining like 90% of my energy lately sigh :'(

Reading: It would take too much space to list all the manga, webtoons and novels i'm waiting for new chapters of xD Honorable mentions: S-ranks That I've Raised (there's so much going on, it's fun), Strange Grief Wants to Retire (it's pretty funny) as for the novels, Skip and Loafer, Wind Breaker, Kemutai Hanashi as for manga. I kinda wanna list The Greatest Estate developer, but the webtoon has just finished, i think ^^'
Last series: Sousou no Frieren if we're talking about tv series, Lord of Mysteries if about books. I've always liked Frieren for the calm and grounding atmosphere and the way it chooses to portray different topics, it kinda feels like a warm cup of tea in winter, if that makes sense xD As for LoM, it's the more exciting type and i guess i got quite attached to the characters, as well as intrigued about the worldbuilding and the power system
Last film: The Matrix, i think? I've known a little about it, but never really went out of my way to see it and not long ago it just happened to air on TV when i was sitting with my parents. It's not really my cup of tea, but i guess i can see why it's been well-received ^^'
Last song: Passing Memories by Hoyo-Mix (i've been low-key obsessed about this one for months, to the point of attempting to figure out how the pronunciation works just for it xD)
Coffee or Tea: always tea in my case as i've never been able to accept the taste or even smell of coffee ^^' There's so much variety of tea that i'm not sure i'll ever get bored of it, not to start about wonders of milk tea and matcha latte
Working on: renovating my room (that will be a work in progress for a while, turns out i'm not motivated enough for this and so far it has mostly proven i'm capable of living even in less comfortable conditions xD); also a gift for a friend, currently checking if i can open and reassemble a kinder surprise back in a way that will leave no traces (if it's named a surprise then it shall stay one)

reading: I started reading "Apparently, Sir Cameron Needs to Die" by Greer Stothers a few days ago. I'm only 60ish pages in but so far the book is a lot of fun. its very silly :)
I'm also reading lotr but thats going pretty slow. to me lotr is the kind of books eries where you really have to sit down for a while and read it in big chunks to properly get immersed and ive sadly not really had the time for that recently.
last series: *world weary sigh* I let my roommate pick what show we'd watch one evening and she put on the Mr Beast show :') (I only stayed for like. half an episode so not sure if this actually counts)
the last show I watched of my own free will was Alien Stage iirc (for the nth time)

Coffee or Tea: Tea! Absolutely tea. I love flowers and researching things, so I've been looking into different ways to brew and experimenting with milk tea, plain teas, etc. We've been brewing for a few years now, and apparently we make such good tea that one of our friends (who hates tea, never drinks any btw) loved it! (We made them a matcha latte with lavender honey and mixed in some lavender-chamomile tea, added enough matcha to mix with both the milk and l.c.)
Working on: A bit of Limbus Company/Project Moon fanart and a couple Minecraft skin, one for a good friend of ours and one for our partner system ^^

last film: Vampire Hunter D (1985). UNEXPECTEDLY funny. Bloodlust is on the list for the near future as well. Other than this, we rewatched Treasure Planet before this.

Working on: ah… in theory, I have drafts for the next chapter of A Lady’s Duty (baby Sansa decides to adopt Jon) and a sequel to on of my Dragon Age II fics, in practice I’m running a large group through Curse of Stradh and all the creative energy is going towards keeping up with them. I love my party to bits, they are trying so hard to be good, they aren’t being murderhobos, but they have absolutely earned the name Chaos Weasels.

Congratulations, not only to your success with this project, and passion for keeping the fandom alive, but also your drive on bringing awareness to serious, but relatable subjects that shape the heart of existence and humanity... all the while having your audience hold their breath for the newest update to come.
To embrace the "dark" complexities of life is to educate and express genuine, raw emotion that death, pain, and destruction are natural parts to the human experience, and without them (as we will probably see in "Machines Don't Bleed"), there is no empathy to be given or obtained, as there is no reason to express emotions to begin with.
The dark must first exist before light can share its true beauty and purpose. To lose something is to gain something from that experience, and by addressing the hardships from said loss is to take the first step into the process of growth and change.
It is as Tom Hanks said in "It's A Beautiful Day" (2019)...

We are not only expressing our stories by writing our own struggles...
