I watched a bts clip on ST: Picard about how expensive things were and that’s why we get such short seasons now then the next clip was about how the starship prop models were plated in real gold.

Okay so step one: don’t plate props in actual gold. This will save at least several dollars.

There’s so much emphasis placed on production and not enough on story and character. I literally don’t care if the set is spray painted cardboard and the aliens are dogs with horns glued to their heads. Suspension of disbelief goes a long way.

#i knew about this bit going in and i knew that michael shanks & ben browder switched roles in it bc they thought it would be funnier #but i assumed it would be 'vala pitches a suspiciously farscape-esque adventure from her life and everyone is there wizard of oz-style' #watching it and learning that 1) the implication is that farscape exists as a show within the stargate universe #2) vala has watched it and imagined herself and daniel as the romantic leads #and 3) the episode does not acknowledge the fact that cam & crichton have the exact same face #took me from 'lol they were right; that is funnier' to 'no one has ever been more correct about anything'

around a year ago i realised i actually needed to design the space station for my story. and i haven’t ever created anything like that from scratch in my entire life. that day there was an attempt to shape it like a ball. then, certain conclusions were made:

i saw people drawing spaceships out of mundane objects like shampoo bottles, and i wanted to do something like that too, but none of the objects were speaking to me. i realised i had no idea what i was doing, so i went to do something else for a year, not really thinking about it and hoping for the best. last week i thought about this whole idea again, and it suddenly struck me:

a clothespin.

as a kid i spent some time obsessing over plastic clothespins with rings. i thought they looked like planes or weird skyscrapers when put on top of each other. i was throwing them out of our fifth floor kitchen window to see if they could fly. the only thing flying there was my mother’s disappointment in my behaviour, but that didn’t matter.

so with the idea of a giant space station shaped like a clothespin, i went into the process. here’s how that worked out:
