NINA ZENIK IS WASIAN???
Every single fucking time a latinoamerican country implements a progressive law/policy you people have to be all like "how fucked up are we that *country name* is being more progressive than the US" as if it's somehow inconceivable that a country you deemed as backwards and barbaric could possibly be making more right decisions than your imperialistic shit hole of a country.
I have no idea how it became a common belief that girls are on average raised in a more gentle & compassionate way compared to boys & that's why grown men don't feel comfortable crying around others, because they were told not to cry as boys but girls weren't.
As if girlhood isn't all criticism, harsh discipline & high standards. As if girls aren't expected to mature faster & leave "childish" behaviors behind sooner. As if most autistic girls will not get diagnosed in childhood because they get their autistic traits bullied & beaten out of them from an early age & are forced to learn to mask in order to survive. As if girls aren't socialized to be silent, agreeable, and never bother or inconvenience anyone ever.
Crying in public is one of the few rare examples of a situation where cis het men have to face the risk of receiving harsh judgement from people around them, and because they weren't trained from an early age to expect such treatment, they perceive it as a major injustice.
A 14 year old girl would either leave to cry in private or if she can't control it, just accept that people will look down on her for crying, see her as weak & vulnerable, mock her and likely also accuse her of being manipulative. She would still suffer, but she wouldn't blame it on the people around her, she would likely blame herself.
The resilience isn't proof of a better/gentler socialization. It's quite the opposite actually. Women can cry in public because they know they'll be able to handle the consequences. That's not evidence that they have it better.
It's because they've had to deal with constant misogynistic humiliation all their lives and they know they can't escape it by following specific rules like "don't cry". That's also the reason why queer men are seemingly "allowed" more freedom of self-expression. It's not gay privilege, it's resilience.
I think itās so funny how we have to speak to men like preschoolers when it comes to having empathy for women. like hey buddy⦠I know you think girls are icky :( but remember your mommy? your mommy is a girl! and then theyāre like ohhhh⦠mommy IS a girl.. and I do like mommy⦠this is starting to come together

i actually donāt give a fuck that transvestigation laws āwill end up impacting cis women tooā it should be enough that they impact trans women. you should care about that on its own actually.

I keep thinking about how Crystal asked the Washer Woman I need to know who I am and she meant getting her memories back but the Washer Woman replied "when the earth moves and the bird cries, stop looking without, and look within"
And I know the Washer Woman's focus is on saving lives and the revelation Crystal had there did eventually lead to her being able to reclaim her memories but the fact remains she asked a wise prophet who am I? and the answer was you are a beautiful blossoming tree and you have access to a strong, rich lineage to help you and a great potential to do good
It is not her memories that make her who she is, or her parents, or her name. She's not defined by the environment she grew up in or the horrible things she did in the past. She asked to know who she was and this is the answer. Resilient, glowing, beautiful, empowered by generations before her to be herself and protect others. She really needed to hear that and sheās gotta be so grateful she learned this before getting her memories back. She's a strong and loved psychic medium first, the person she was before second
@crystal-week day 7
Obsessed with the way Kassius Nelson acts out Crystal swallowing the memories. It literally looks like a hard and bitter pill to swallow. Like it tastes horrible and a part of her is resisting against them but she forces it through just like she doesn't really want to remember who she was and yet feels she needs to so she takes them in anyway and Kassius just makes it work so goddamn well
I'd been wondering why they made the choice for her to take the memories into the physical realm after she reclaimed them in her mindscape, which seemed to be where memories would go normally. It didn't really make sense to me that the memories became physical and had to be swallowed like that. But it's for this. Thematically, Crystal taking in her memories needed to be visceral. Private, horrible, repulsive. Painful. It needed its own story beat removed from the win over David. Because the memories first and foremost come with the loss of the image of her past life that sheās kept while staying with the Dead Boy Detectives. It's a difficult and bitter truth. Literally a hard pill to swallow
@crystal-week this fits the memories theme. I'm honestly not sure by how many days I've missed that one but better late than never
There are friends, there is family, and then there are friends that become family.

Another day, another Dead Boy Detectives question! āØ
In the hopes of getting the fandom tag trending and getting more eyes on Dead Boy Detectives, please use the tag "dead boy detectives" when you reblog to reply.
Today's question:
What's the one present Crystal would like most for the winter holidays?
Crystal's ancestor telling her that David being buried in her mind is "bad for the tree," but I'm so interested to learn what that would have meant for her in season 2.
A good old fashioned corruption arc would be possible, of course, but I personally would prefer that it starts to chip away at her psychic powers.
No, Crystal doesn't need to do bad things because of the tree rotting. That's so pre-canon. Rehashing it does nothing to further her arc.
But forcing her to contend with losing her psychic powers? The powers that she felt inadequate after losing in 1x6? Fuck yeah, that would be a good arc. Make girliepop (my beloved) come to terms with her identity as a psychic and how she would still maintain other integral parts of herself if she could no longer be one.
Also GREAT contrast to s1 where she knew nothing about herself BESIDES being a psychic, uh huh
This is such a great article.
Itās so sad that Netflix is pretty much just known as the killer of fantasy shows now, but you reap what you sow.
Dead Boy Detectives is still available to stream
