the thing is i actually don’t enjoy or care about fire & blood. i don’t. it’s the most boring book grrm has ever written, i’ve read it twice, physically and audio, and it’s put me to sleep both times. the dance of the dragons is borderline unreadable because there’s twenty versions of the same event being told nearly 200 years later. the entire book is unreliable narration and raging misogyny. it is not a good book and i simply don’t understand the rages people fly into over the show not being a 1:1 adaptation.
i genuinely don’t think book purists understand the decisions that had to be made to make the show adaptable that have in fact elevated it beyond what is, once again, an entirely unreliable narrative. eg: “book alicent would never” book alicent is an entirely one dimensional evil stepmother caricature. her actual relationship with her individual children isn’t even mentioned nor how she may have treated them. there is 0 evidence in the book of what she actually wants that hasn’t been twisted and retold incorrectly a thousand times.
not watching the show is an option! go read the most boring book in existence instead!
