I love characters that appear arrogant or self-centered but you don’t have to dig deep to find it's a poorly built façade to hide the fact that they actually despise themselves with every ounce of their being.

Whenever I see Whumpee with a knife to the throat (especially in the context of a standoff and/or hostage situation) I always want Whumper to push just a little harder. Just enough to draw some blood. Just as a warning, just to prove they're serious. Just as a treat for me

I really like it when a character is in so much distress that they start self harming about it. Nails digging into their own skin until they bleed. They might not even be aware that they're doing it, it's like an ingrained automatic response to fear for them.
