Greenhouse Made of Uranium Glass
Artist Victor Engbers built this greenhouse for the Amsterdam Light Festival out of uranium glass. The glass has a nice green tinge, but glows radiantly under a blacklight. Yes, it does contain uranium. Victor Engbers made this greenhouse for the Amsterdam Light Festival. The theme was biomimicry, and he decided to try to come up with glass that emits light. The project led him to this: a greenhouse made of uranium glass. The panes were man blown, and then cut, explaining the circles. You could also enter the greenhouse:

We've found the cause and are working on a fix. We expect to have it ready in a few days.

I’m getting genuinely emotional y’all don’t understand how ISOLATING it can be when cultural dress for most other Asian countries are popular and represented and Filipino clothing barely is, LET ALONE PRE-COLONIAL?!
I- 🥹
I hope to find the time and energy to fulfil my dream of making the clothes and dressing like this
I'm Filipino and seeing this did something to me in a good way
Goddamn these are gorgeous. Both the people and the clothing!
I have no idea who or what carhartt is but i always see big boys wearing em so they have my full support
expensive jackets for people who do out door labor thats oddly enough worth the high price.
To be fair it is a very nice looking jacket
They're not terribly expensive for the quality of Carhartt's products. In fact, Carhartt should be the standard.
A warm, durable canvas winter coat from Carhartt cost me about $200. But this thing will last forever. Because it's designed to be worn for work. After a few years, it's actually gotten more comfortable and better looking because it's broken in. I'm gonna have this coat for the rest of my life. It's made to last. I've never had a winter coat last more than a couple years because it rips or tears.
My friend with a pretty Burberry raincoat spent $2,000 and it's not designed to hold up that well or be punished like a Carhartt coat. That's expensive, and impractical. $200 for a coat that will last a lifetime is great if you can afford it.
Big boys love them cuz they fit. They're a little oversized and come in lots of sizes and as a big boy I don't have time or money anymore to waste on crappy clothes.
I have a Carhartt backpack. Carhartt boots and pants. My dog even has a Carhartt harness.
Carhartt is also women run, loudly supports the LGBTQ community, treats its workers well, and was one of the first and few companies to support mandatory COVID vaccines. It's not just a good product, it's a good American company.
CARHARTT!

oh right, I should've posted the cover reveal yesterday
here it is!
I can't do much but maybe this will interest someone. This cookbook is by a classically trained autistic chef, made for people with sensory issues. It's sold 1/6th of its initial run because apparently no one wants to have an autistic person interviewed on TV.
Apparently it's also very funny.
An accessible family cookbook that offers solutions rather than tricks to empower the food-averse, autistic, and picky eater, with 46 recipe
Spread this around! I bet someone here can use this.
More info from the link:
"An accessible family cookbook that offers solutions rather than tricks to empower the food-averse, autistic, and picky eater, with 46 recipes. This much-needed cookbook combines tips and techniques with a dash of understanding about food aversion and how to help your kids—and yourself—cook beautiful meals in an empowering way, and is a groundbreaking resource for anyone who has ever been called “picky” or “discerning.” Learn how to alter the texture or taste profile of a dish, or even fit it within a specific palette with a unique color-coded guide. Delicious, nutritious, and easily tailored recipes (including for gluten-free and vegan eaters) include:
the perfect smashed cheeseburger
Italian sausage and potato soup
the best omelet
stuffed focaccia
chocolate pinwheels
and dozens more
Professional chef Matthew Broberg-Moffitt’s advice is broken down by category (The Five Tastes, Texture, Color, Aroma, Presentation, and Plating) in order to address each and every aspect of food aversion, and a Food Preference Profile and Worksheet is included for you and your child to quickly identify and summarize their preferences. Instead of leading to mistrust by disguising or slipping in foods your kids don’t want to eat, this cookbook supports caretakers in a way that maintains a healthy relationship with food, and a joyful, less stressful experience around the table."
I have this, and I recommend! I've only tried a few recipes so far (because I samefood a lot), but they've been a) very good and b) to the extent there are elements that don't work for me, they are very (intentionally) easy to adapt. The only drawback I would warn about is that (in my opinion) he assumes the reader/cook has access to a much larger variety of cooking equipment that a lot of people will have. I haven't had any trouble adapting his instructions to the equipment that is actually in my kitchen, but I could see this tripping up someone who is brand new to cooking.
(Also this book has permanently changed the way I make mashed potatoes. He recommends baking them instead of boiling, and they are incredible.)
My only worry is… what if the author’s safe textures are not the same as my safe textures?
@gracechoreography It's not that kind of cookbook! :) It's designed to help you work with *your* specific needs.
A large chunk of the beginning is entire chapters dedicated to the different senses, and how to cook with your sensory preferences/needs in mind. For example, here is the beginning of the texture chapter:
And then here's an example of how it talks about recipes:
The book is aimed at people who don't have a lot of experience cooking and/or are trying to figure out how to cook for someone with food aversions (like their kid) without prior tools or experience, so it won't blow your mind if you're already been successfully cooking for your food-averse self for well over a decade. But there was a still useful tips in it for me, and also it's just...nice?... to have a cookbook that thinks about food the same way I do.
... I want this on a shirt

how are you gonna be 31 and posting fandom content bro leave it to the teenagers
People 10 and 20 years older than me are writing your favorite fanfics, and drawing your favorite characters. You'd have no fandom without the people you think are 'too old' to have hobbies.
I let out the ugliest laugh ever
The two most popular pieces of fanfiction I ever wrote, "Alone on the Water" and "Performance in a Leading Role" (both in the Sherlock fandom) were written in 2010(ish).
I receive comments and notes about these two fics almost daily.
I have had people tell me that these pieces of writing have affected them in very real ways. Helped them deal with grief, helped them think about sexuality differently, gotten them through hard times, given them joy when nothing else did. I have had people tell me they re-read them regularly, when they want to feel those things again.
I'm not saying this to brag, but to point out that fanfiction writers can and do provide a service to their fan communities.
In 2010? I was 37 years old.
Could I have written either of those works when I was 15? Absolutely not. I know this because I know the kind of writing I was producing when I WAS fifteen. There are teenagers capable of really good writing. They are the outliers. Not because teenagers can't be skilled, but because most of the time, good writing is the product of life experience, years spent in practice, and a long time spent reading.
So shut the fuck up with your "fandom is for teenagers" nonsense and get offa my lawn.
🇺🇸recall of ALL zicam cold remedy nasal swabs, zicam nasal allclear swabs, and orajel baby teething swabs due to potentially life-threatening microbial contamination🇺🇸
all lots within expiration. it seems this contamination has been going on for a long time. and yes one of these is aimed at babies. awful.
two of these are swabs that go up your nose, and one is intended to relieve pain for teething babies.
Church & Dwight Co., Inc. is voluntarily recalling all lots within expiry of Zicam® Cold Remedy Nasal Swabs, Zicam® Nasal AllClear Swabs, an
Church & Dwight Co., Inc. is voluntarily recalling all lots within expiry of Zicam® Cold Remedy Nasal Swabs, Zicam® Nasal AllClear Swabs, and Orajel™ Baby Teething Swabs to the consumer level. The products are being recalled due to potential microbial contamination identified as fungi in cotton swab components. Swabs found to contain microbial contamination can potentially present a significant risk to the health and safety of consumers including serious and life-threatening blood infections in users whose nasal mucosa may be compromised due to inflammation and mechanical injuries. The risk is highest (potentially severe or life-threatening) among children and individuals with compromised immune systems or other underlying medical conditions. To date, no serious adverse events associated with the affected product have been reported. The recalled products were distributed nationwide in the United States and in Puerto Rico.
so, for fuck knows how long, the swabs have been contaminated with dangerous fungi. this recall announcement does not specifically name the type of fungi that contaminated the swabs, but they do say that it is bad enough to potentially be life-threatening. yikes!
now here is the complicated part. these are products advertised to sick people and babies, which are two groups at risk of randomly getting sicker. although there have been no reported serious adverse effects, note that they never said no adverse effects. if someone developed a life-threatening infection from these, it would probably be pretty fucking hard to link that illness or even death to a nasal swab. there is no telling if the samples taken of the contaminants will wind up being linked to someone's illness from months or years ago.
the nose and mouth are dangerous places to get infections, as the infections can travel to other parts of the body like the brain or heart and become deadly. this is part of why going to a dentist is so important, because infections in the mouth can kill someone who is otherwise healthy.
there have been many US news stories over the years of people who got contaminated water up their nose and wound up hospitalized or dead from infection, too. which is why you should never use tap water in a neti pot.
Recalled Product Information Zicam® Cold Remedy Nasal Swabs, with UPC 732216301205, all lots: A zinc-free, homeopathic cold remedy swab designed to shorten the duration of the common cold. Zicam® Nasal AllClear Swabs, with UPC 732216301656, all lots: A nasal cleansing swab product (discontinued in December 2024). Orajel™ Baby Teething Swabs, with UPC 310310400002, all lots: Pre-moistened swabs designed to soothe teething discomfort in infants and toddlers.
ALL LOTS within expiration are being recalled. and the implication here is, this contamination may go back YEARS. they just do not have to take full responsibility for the contaminated products that have already expired.
Consumers who have purchased any of the recalled products should stop using the product immediately. Please visit www.churchdwightrecall.com or call its Consumer Relations team at (800) 981-4710 for a full refund. Any additional questions can also be directed to its Consumer Relations team Monday through Friday, 9am – 5pm ET. Adverse reactions or quality problems experienced with the use of this product may be reported to the FDA's MedWatch Adverse Event Reporting program either online, by regular mail or by fax.
stop using these products immediately and reach out to the company for a full refund. and if you have experienced any adverse reactions from these products, please report it to the FDA.
We've lost a lot to the onslaught of enshittification but I can think of none more brazen than Discord getting rid of the send button
Oh, you've typed a message? You've typed a message? Would you like to add a sticker (server stickers available with Nitro Boosts(TM).) Would you like to add an emoji (more custom emojis available with Nitro(TM).) Would you like to send a gift (gift your friend Nitro(TM) for only $9.99 a month.) Would you like to add an app (more apps available in the Nitro Store(TM).)
They got rid of the send message button. On the send messages to my friends app. In order to make room for a 5th button that sells you something. The parody is too bold people will roll their eyes you have to scale it back.
I would like to gently point out that the send button can be enabled or disabled under accessibility,
Also, if you're someone who'd like to customize your discord further, or remove nitro garbage or bypass it, better discord (an open source project) can be used on desktop for a lot of fun results:
BetterDiscord extends the functionality of DiscordApp by enhancing it with new features.
Plugin options can entirely replicate nitro stuff, and enhance privacy, such as:
Remove annoying buttons like the Gift button from the chat box.
"Fuck those buttons"
Enhanced version of silent typing.
"Hey maybe I don't want you to know when I'm typing"
Allows you to enter larger Messages, which will automatically split into several smaller Messages
"Fuck the character limit"
Adds extra Controls to the Friends Page, for example sort by Name/Status, Search and All/Request/Blocked Amount
"Can I see my friends in a normal manner please"
Improves your whole experience using Discord. Adds highly customizable switching animations between guilds, channels, etc. Introduces smooth
"I would like navigating discord to be like a powerpoint please"
And many other features that range from helpful to profoundly useless but fun.
Enshittification sucks, but the first step to undoing it is taking control of your experiences and helping others do the same. So hopefully this helps a little?

I could write a dissertation about this and instead only have time for a few paragraphs but. Looking back on Psych with more knowledge about neurodiversity and how people feel about actually being around folks with neurodiversity-related traits…
I have a LOT of feelings about how Gus has so many of the autistic (and some ADHD) traits that people find annoying and grating and get pissed off about (correcting people, infodumping, dropping special interests into unrelated conversations, rigidity in folllowing rules, etc) and Shawn has so many of the ADHD (and some autistic) traits that people find annoying etc (physical and verbal hyperactivity, jumping between tasks and jobs and so forth, habitual lying, interrupting in conversation, etc), BUT
With each other they sort of… build their relationship around those things, instead of treating them as Problems. Gus corrects incorrect things and Shawn forgets correct things (or habitually lies or etc) so they build an entire recurring bit around the situation where those traits intersect (“I’ve heard it both ways”) that turns it from a source of conflict into a shared in-joke ritual. When Shawn starts up one of his elaborate lies Gus immediately swings into commit to the bit back-up mode. Shawn treats Gus’s infodumping as a social strategy.
They balance each others’ extremes without genuinely resenting each other for needing that. Gus is overly rigid about rule-following, Shawn is overly impulsive about rule-breaking, and they pull each other towards a more sustainable middle ground. Gus is overly fond of routine and risks stagnation, Shawn is overly prone to starting and then abandoning things, between them they’re able to form a life that’s interesting and includes novelty but isn’t unlivably chaotic. (We see what happens with that one when they’re not together to balance each other out! During the time they were apart, Shawn had a jillion jobs and quit all of them, while Gus became a dead-eyed pharmaceutical salesman with zero, like, Upward Mobility.)
And then of course there are the traits they share! They both clearly have echolalia and a drive to stim, for instance, and instead of policing each other they just periodically break into random dances and vocal exercises and “singing” and general sensory-seeking nonsense together, matched to each other.
I just??? The fact that they visibly display all those autistic and ADHD traits that drive other people crazy but instead of being a wedge between them that’s exactly why they’re perfect for each other… and how it’s not that it doesn’t ever cause them annoyance because they’re just like naturally soulmates who never get annoyed by anything about each other, but that they’ve worked out rituals and strategies so that what maybe bothered them in the past now instead is a shared bonding activity, or acts to balance their weaknesses against each other…
Just. Got Dam, that’s the dream
