“Nami! Wait! What about heading to Zou?” Sanji shouted after her as Nami strode steadfastly through the battle-torn streets of Dressrosa. The various factions of the Straw Hat Pirates and their ally Trafalgar Law had certainly made a mess of things in their efforts to escape Doflamingo and Admiral Fujitora. Buildings were reduced to crumbling stone and bent metal, overturned carts and abandoned goods littered the sandy streets, and here and there a lingering civilian stared wide-eyed at the carnage, having nowhere to escape the bitter war that had suddenly erupted in their home. Everything the Straw Hats had known about the ruthless pirate leader was a lie; he had been playing them like a fiddle the entire time, and they were now ensnared in whatever trap he had set for them, wiggling like flies trapped in a spider’s web. “Nami! Wait up- ow, damn it!” Sanji cursed as he tripped over a large section of concrete, fumbling around it in his feverish pursuit of the navigator. Nami had no interest in heading to Zou on the Thousand Sunny; the others could handle it. Now, her captain needed her.
“Luffy is in trouble! This operation is a monumental failure, and if we don’t get ourselves together we’re gonna end up dead!” she snapped at him over her shoulder, vaulting herself over a rather large section of collapsed wall and landing in the sandy road with a huff before continuing on her way. She had no idea where she was going, really; she had no idea where Luffy was, or what he was doing now. It was illogical for her to have abandoned the ship as she did and stomp off into the battlefield looking for him. Something had possessed her, though. As the plan had unraveled around them, she felt this overwhelming need to rush to his side. Nami was not strong, she knew that; she barely held a candle to the powerful men she sailed with. Still, she knew she could do something to be of use, something to help her captain in the battle to come… More than anything, though, she just had to know that he was safe. She continued plodding along, her Climatact clutched tightly in her hand, and her mind was so bent on finding the captain that she was not aware of the danger around her.

"You are no longer licensed to use the software," Adobe told them.
Friendly reminder that GIMP does pretty much everything Photoshop does, and it’s 100% free. Fuck DRM and the license culture, we have plenty of open source options available to us as a consumer.
Lightworks is a freeware video editor on par with Premiere
Blender is an excellent freeware 3D renderer, possibly better than After Effects
Lightzone to replace Lightroom
Inkscape to replace Illustratr
Audacity to replace Audition (I also received a free version of Pro Tools with my Scarlett Solo audio interface)
If Adobe is going to be greedy shitheads, then fuck ‘em. Don’t use their stuff. Freeware can be just as good, if not better, than Adobe CC.
I can’t include a link because tumblr is being a butthead, but Medibang Pro is a really great free alternative to photoshop. You can even animate with it.

“See you two days from now!” The Celestial Mage called to the rest of Team Natsu. They were going on a job together, but Erza had suggested that they take a day off, seeing as they had just come back from another job in the mountains.
Lucy walked home in the night, shivering and coughing. She frowned as she reached the door to her apartment. Was she sick? She had been buried under snow on their last job…
She sneezed again. Yup. She was definitely sick.
Well, it was a good thing that tomorrow was an off day, now wasn’t it?
She closed her apartment door and shuffled over to her bed, sniffling. Just as she laid down on it, she saw a familiar white scaly scarf. She huffed and shakily got out of bed, yanking the scarf after her. A familiar salmon-pink haired man toppled out of her bed.
“Oi, what time is it Luce?” The Dragonslayer asked with a husky sleep-laced voice, sitting up with one eye still closed.
“Time for you to get out!” Lucy yelled, before coughing. Natsu sighed and moved to lay down again. “Just five more minu-?” His voice trailed off as her got a good look at the Celestial Mage.
“Luce, what’s wrong?” He asked, concern in his voice. She sniffled. “I’m sick, so can you please leave me to suffer in my misery?” Natsu looked at her with sympathy and got off the bed, moving closer to her.
“N-Natsu? What’re you- KYA~!” The Celestial Mage never got a chance to finish her question because the Fire Dragonslayer had picked her up bridal style. He placed her on the bed gently and tucked the soft pink covers around her.
“Get some rest Luce.” He whispered with a warm smile on his face. The blonde was shocked, but soon drifted off into the soft lull of sleep.
~Time Skip~
Lucy woke to a warm, rough hand on her forehead. Everything else was cold, so she leaned into it. A soft chuckle was heard. She opened her bleary eyes and found herself staring into the warm obsidian eyes of Natsu Dragneel.
“Oi, Luce, how'ya feelin’?” He asked quietly. She feebly batted at him. “Get outta my house, Natsu! Why are you even here!” She sneezed again.
“Lucy, you’re obviously sick. I’m here to take care of you.” Natsu answered stubbornly. She sighed.
“Did Ezra make you?”
He shook his head. “No. She doesn’t even know you’re sick. I’m here by my own will.” She blushed.
Sweet.
Or that’s what she thought before visions of random fires and blown-up kitchens plagued her thoughts. Her eyes widened as panic started to set in. Natsu chuckled. “Lucy, I take care of Happy everytime he’s sick. You have nothing to worry about. He’s not dead yet!”
“Yet.” She mumbled.
He pouted. “Lucy, you trust me, don’t you?” She opened her mouth to say no, then closed it again. She did trust the Fiery Fire Dragonslayer. She sighed. “Yes, Natsu. I trust you.”
The grin he gave her made everything worth it.
“Here.” He said, propping her up in a sitting position before holding up a thermometer.
“Say, Ah!”
She opened her mouth with a raised eyebrow as he stuck the thermometer under her tongue. They waited a while until Natsu removed it to read the temperature. He frowned and closed her mouth. “102.6 Luce. You have a fever.” She raised an eyebrow as if to say, Oh REALLY now? He laughed and her heart skipped a beat.
“Get some rest, Luce.” The salmon-pink haired man said.
~Time skip (again)~
Gray and the rest of Team Natsu, (minus Natsu and Lucy, of course) were outside Lucy’s door. They were planning on having a day at the beach as a group. They knocked on her door only to have a shirtless Natsu who was blowing steam of a bowl of soup greet them.
“Natsu what are you doing shirtless in Lucy’s apart-mmph!” Erza was cut off by Natsu clamping a hand over her mouth. She gave him a death glare and Natsu removed his hand, giving her a glare of his own.
“Pipe down!” He hissed. “You’ll wake up Lucy! She’s sick!” A feeble voice was heard from the apartment. “Natsu? You still here?”
“Great, you woke her up!” Natsu hissed at Erza.
Natsu turned, completely ignoring the group. “Coming.”
He hurried inside the apartment, the group following from a safe distance. They were greeted by the sight of a pale Lucy with heaps of blankets on top of her and Natsu sitting on a stool next to her bedside, holding the soup.
“Was that Erza I heard?” She asked weakly. He nodded. “Yeah, Queen of the Loudmouths couldn’t be quiet, sorry about waking you up.” Lucy giggled. “It’s fine.”
Natsu held up a spoonful of the soup, and Lucy eyed it skeptically. “What’s that?” Natsu smiled at her with a gentleness Team Natsu didn’t know he possessed.
“C'mon Luce, I’m not gonna poison yah! I give this to Happy when he’s sick all the time!”
Team Natsu looked at each other in surprise. They didn’t know that Natsu took care of Happy!
The Celestial Mage sighed. “Fine.” Natsu propped her up into a sitting position and fed Lucy the soup.
“Mmm!” She gasped after swallowing a spoonful. “Who made this! This is amazing!” Natsu blushed. “I did.” She looked at him, shocked.
“Natsu I didn’t think you could make anything edible!”
Natsu pouted. “Oi, Luce, I make edible things all the time!” She smirked as Natsu kept feeding her the soup. “Name one!”
Natsu took a deep breath.
“Grilled fish.” “Boiled Fish.” “Fried Fish.” “Barbequed fish.” “Fish Kabo-”
Lucy cut him off by pressing a finger to his mouth. Natsu looked surprised. Gray leaned over to Juvia and Erza and whispered, “Flame Brain needs to ask her out already.” The water mage made a faint sound of agreement.
Erza had stars in her eyes and looked like she did when she found out Bisca and Alzac had a child.
Natsu finished feeding Lucy the soup and helped her lie down. He tucked her in and laughed.
“What?” Asked a sleepy Lucy. Natsu grinned.
“I sneaked your medicine into the soup.” Lucy gasped.
“NATSU!”
He held his hands up in surrender and tried to look sorry. (He failed miserably ; the corners of his mouth kept twitching upwards.)
“Hey, you have a high fever, you need it! Be glad I didn’t make you drink it straight!”
Lucy pouted and Natsu grinned again. He turned to the rest of Team Natsu with a fierce stare. “You guys can stop hiding. What’re doing anyways?” Lucy jolted and looked in the direction Team Natsu was.
“Oh come on!” She yelled, exasperated. “Please don’t try to take care of me too! Natsu is already a handful! He’s like an over-protective boyfriend!” She blushed, realizing what comparison she just made. Gray smirked ar her and Gajeel gave Natsu a thumbs up.
“JUST GET OUT!” They both yelled while blushing like crazy. Erza ran out laughing like a mental person with Levy screaming “NALUUUU!”
As soon as they left, Natsu kissed Lucy’s forehead and got up to clean the apartment.
“Sleep well, Luce.”
The Celestial Mage grabbed his wrist before he walked away. “N-Natsu? Could you..stay?”
Natsu looked thoughtful, and then smiled at her. “Sure, Lucy.”
He sat back on his stool and stroked her hair gently, until she fell asleep. He kissed her forehead and moved to the couch.
“Sleep well.”

Ways to un-stick a stuck story
Do an outline, whatever way works best. Get yourself out of the word soup and know where the story is headed.
Conflicts and obstacles. Hurt the protagonist, put things in their way, this keeps the story interesting. An easy journey makes the story boring and boring is hard to write.
Change the POV. Sometimes all it takes to untangle a knotted story is to look at it through different eyes, be it through the sidekick, the antagonist, a minor character, whatever.
Know the characters. You can’t write a story if the characters are strangers to you. Know their likes, dislikes, fears, and most importantly, their motivation. This makes the path clearer.
Fill in holes. Writing doesn’t have to be linear; you can always go back and fill in plotholes, and add content and context.
Have flashbacks, hallucinations, dream sequences or foreshadowing events. These stir the story up, deviations from the expected course add a feeling of urgency and uncertainty to the narrative.
Introduce a new mystery. If there’s something that just doesn’t add up, a big question mark, the story becomes more compelling. Beware: this can also cause you to sink further into the mire.
Take something from your protagonist. A weapon, asset, ally or loved one. Force him to operate without it, it can reinvigorate a stale story.
Twists and betrayal. Maybe someone isn’t who they say they are or the protagonist is betrayed by someone he thought he could trust. This can shake the story up and get it rolling again.
Secrets. If someone has a deep, dark secret that they’re forced to lie about, it’s a good way to stir up some fresh conflict. New lies to cover up the old ones, the secret being revealed, and all the resulting chaos.
Kill someone. Make a character death that is productive to the plot, but not “just because”. If done well, it affects all the characters, stirs up the story and gets it moving.
Ill-advised character actions. Tension is created when a character we love does something we hate. Identify the thing the readers don’t want to happen, then engineer it so it happens worse than they imagined.
Create cliff-hangers. Keep the readers’ attention by putting the characters into new problems and make them wait for you to write your way out of it. This challenge can really bring out your creativity.
Raise the stakes. Make the consequences of failure worse, make the journey harder. Suddenly the protagonist’s goal is more than he expected, or he has to make an important choice.
Make the hero active. You can’t always wait for external influences on the characters, sometimes you have to make the hero take actions himself. Not necessarily to be successful, but active and complicit in the narrative.
Different threat levels. Make the conflicts on a physical level (“I’m about to be killed by a demon”), an emotional level (“But that demon was my true love”) and a philosophical level (“If I’m forced to kill my true love before they kill me, how can love ever succeed in the face of evil?”).
Figure out an ending. If you know where the story is going to end, it helps get the ball rolling towards that end, even if it’s not the same ending that you actually end up writing.
What if? What if the hero kills the antagonist now, gets captured, or goes insane? When you write down different questions like these, the answer to how to continue the story will present itself.
Start fresh or skip ahead. Delete the last five thousand words and try again. It’s terrifying at first, but frees you up for a fresh start to find a proper path. Or you can skip the part that’s putting you on edge – forget about that fidgety crap, you can do it later – and write the next scene. Whatever was in-between will come with time.
*Blinks* I-I’m not the only one to call writer’s block needing to un-stick the story?
