tongue in cheek art about weird bodies and waiting for a diagnosis
[ID: A piece of digital art. It depicts six vials of blood of various shades for lab testing with following labels: ânegativeâ, ânegativeâ, âWait a minute.â, âNo wonder Iâm so fucking tired!â, ânegativeâ and âWell. Itâs not lupus!â. The background is black and blank and there is a white caption in the bottom left corner reading: â8.28.25 - âLabsââ.
Oof, too relatable đ
Why is it that every time I google something like "Are olives poisonous to cats" the top results are always like "Fun fact: Cats are carnivores! This means that they eat meat. There is no reason to include olives in a cat's diet. You should feed your cat cat food, which is dry or wet food especially designed for cats. You can purchase this at a store." like is there a single person alive on the planet who's googled "Are blueberry muffins safe for cats" because they're planning on switching their cat to a muffin-only diet??? No, I'm asking because the little bastard somehow popped open the packet while I was putting away the groceries and dragged one under the couch before I could react and now I need to know if I should call the after-hours vet. "Cats should not eat spaghetti." NO SHIT, SHERLOCK!!!! "Try to keep human food away from cats." i live in a studio apartment with a completely silent and permanently hungry apex predator who has the intelligence of a toddler and the desperate Machiavellian cunning of a creature who spent his formative months on the streets. He can already open doors and he is this đ close to learning how to open the microwave. He is stronger than me and covered in knives. So im gonna do my best but for the moment i just need you to tell me whether this yoghurt is going to kill my son y/n
I've been using the pet poison hotline's poison list cause it has a search function. It also tells you whether something is mildly, moderately, or severely toxic which can be very handy! It doesn't contain like everything but it might be a good place to start, it also includes plants for fellow houseplant lovers <3
Explore Pet Poison HelplineÂźs vast knowledge on poisons by reviewing our pet poison list. Explore our top 10 poison and holiday poison lists
For plants specifically, thereâs also a wildly detailed set of posts and listings about toxicity on the old, wonderful, Plants Are the Strangest People blog
If youâre looking for some free to low cost quilt patterns, I have a few sites in my favs you may be interested in checking out. Many of these quilters are on Instagram. If you have an account (I do not), consider following them. They offer free patterns, designs, tips and tricks, and other nifty things.
FPP = foundation paper piecing
Unicorn Harts - FPP, all patterns are great for beginners, and many of the patterns are free. I love her patterns and highly recommend them. If youâre looking for zodiac stuff, this is a great designer to consider.
Violet Craft - FPP, patterns range from beginner to advanced, and many are free as well as low cost. She has full quilt patterns instead of just blocks available.
Quiet Play - FPP, patterns range from beginner to advanced, several are free as well as low cost. She has blocks and full quilt patterns. Lots of free Star Wars blocks as well as a pattern for making a quilt using those.
Fandom In Stitches - FPP, 100% free, but take note that what you make with most of these patterns cannot be sold. What you make must be free as gifts, trades, or kept for yourself. I used this site for the last Quilt Block Swap.
Lilly Ella - FPP and traditional, many free and low cost, geared more towards moderate and advanced but a few are good for beginners. Those butterflies I recently made? Her pattern. She has blocks and full projects, like making a sewing machine cover and fabric baskets.
Sew So Easy - FPP and traditional, everything is free. From the very beginners to advanced, clothes, various projects, quilts, all of it is free. They put out a newsletter every week with new stuff on the website.
Gnome Angel - FPP and traditional, free and low cost, PDF and physical books, full quilt patterns as well as individual blocks, and she has quilt-a-long events. If youâre looking for a quilt that uses 100 different blocks for less than $30, this is who you should check out. They write the patterns with FPP and traditional quilt options.
Teresa Down Under - FPP and traditional, free and low cost, PDF and physical copies, full quilt patterns and individual blocks. Sheâs the one who taught me how to FPP! She loves interacting with her followers and teaching people how to quilt. She has a Youtube channel as well!
Sew Hooked - FPP and traditional, free and low cost, and has a lot of fun fandom things to check out. Beginner and advanced options. They participate in quilt events, like sew-a-longs, and give reviews on a few things.
Generations Quilt Patterns - FPP and traditional, all free, very beginner to advanced. There arenât any full quilt patterns, just blocks. Still my favorite website to use for figuring out patterns I wanna use. An excellent site for making a sampler quilt (a quilt made using a bunch of different blocks).
Carol Doak - FPP, free, beginner to advanced. The quilt block designer who made my favorite quilt books. All those little blocks with stars, trees, houses, and other small things? Nearly all were designed by her. She has several books, and if you opt to buy any, consider getting the 300 blocks book seeing as the smaller ones are also in it.
Crafty Nomad - FPP, beginner to advanced, low cost but with free tutorials. Iâve not used her patterns before, but they look to be geared towards all levels. I have a difficult time learning from videos being a more in-person and diagrams with pictures and instructions kind of person.
My Pattern Search - I did a google search using âfree quilt patterns -pinterestâ (minus the quotation marks) to get a general collection without Pinterest showing up. When you look for patterns and donât wanna be flooded with Pinterest boards, use -pinterest. You can do the same with -amazon, -walmart, and various other sites you donât want showing up in search results.
Quilting Daily - This is an excellent website with all sorts of projects from very beginner to advanced! Sign up for the newsletter if you donât mind getting one daily. They have giveaways and other events you receive notice of in the newsletters.
Fave Quilts - FPP and traditional, all are free, from beginner to advanced. Some of the info they list, like the links, may no longer be valid, so look over the patterns carefully. They link to other websites with the patterns.
Stashify - FPP and traditional, all free, from beginner to advanced. They wonât be adding new things to the site since Covid19, but they do still have patterns listed.
All About Quilts - FPP and traditional, all free, from beginner to advanced. Thereâs a video on the page showing how to make FPP blocks. There are full quilts listed as well as individual blocks.
All People Quilt - FPP and traditional, nearly all are free and have at one point or another been in various quilt magazines, lots of pictures, download, and print options. Iâve used many of the patterns featured on the website. There are also tips and tricks available on the blog and articles they post.
Fat Quarter Shop - Traditional, focused primarily on using precuts. The patterns range from beginner to advanced, with lots of pictures, download, and print options. This particular link is to their free patterns.
Moda Fabrics and Moda Fabrics Wordpress - Mostly traditional, with pictures, download, and print options to choose from. Beginner to advanced. The second link has virtually no organization, but itâs all free.
Bear Creek Quilting Company - Mostly traditional with a lot of pics. Beginner to advanced.
Quilterâs Cache - Mostly traditional and itâs just quilt blocks. The site is difficult to navigate, so I havenât done much exploring. Seeing as itâs mostly just quilt blocks, I suggest using Generations (link up above) because theyâre also just blocks but far easier to navigate.
The Fabric Hut - they created an ebook with 161 patterns, 100% free, for download.
Wombat Quilts - FPP and all free
Internet Archive - You will need an account, which is free, and will then be able to borrow these books for an hour each. There are over 1000 quilting books with patterns uploaded to the archive.
My Personal Collection of Free Patterns - This is a Dropbox folder with free patterns Iâve collected. Download whatever files you want. Iâll add more as I find them, but make sure you check out the links available on some of the patterns for more information regarding them.
APQS - A variety of FPP and traditional, all of which are downloadable and free.
McCallâs Quilt Blocks - 150+ free quilt block patterns
The Sewing Loft - This is full of free patterns, with quilting, sewing projects, tutorials, videos, and all sorts of other goodies. Oh, and 100+ quilt block patterns you can download.
Sewing With Scrap - This website focuses on using scraps, and itâs packed with free patterns, tutorials, and projects.
Crafty Staci - Loads of free blocks and patterns, including several Block-of-the-Month projects.
DuckaDilly - This is their free downloads website. It has patterns, templates, and other goodies for you.

Tildaâs World - Free quilt and doll patterns.
Always Expect Moore - this is all her free patterns, but she has several others available for purchase.
Leila Gardunia - These are primarily FPP and all are free. They also have a shop! This is also one of my favorite designers, and youâll see why when you see the patterns.
Quilting Dailyâs Free Block Library A-H - all free quilt blocks and tutorials
Quilting Dailyâs Free Block Library I-Q - all free quilt blocks and tutorials
Quilting Dailyâs Free Block Library R-Z - all free quilt blocks and tutorials
Patchwork Posse Charm Pack Patterns - this has over 35 free quilt patterns designed for using charm packs. Very beginner friendly!
Scattered Thoughts - free quilt patterns and all very beginner friendly.
Subscription Boxes - This is a longer post I made, and it contains links to various subscription boxes. Most of these contain at least one pattern, and each of these has a monthly subscription option. Please read over it if a subscription box might be something you or someone you know may be interested in receiving.
Riley Blake Designs - free patterns, but make sure to be patient because some may take several minutes to download.
Pattern Posse - free quilt patterns and tutorials. This link is all jelly roll patterns.
There are many other designers out there; these are just what I have saved and/or used. Remember to check all the info on the patterns! Some have rules like not selling the finished items/quilts, and others require just mentioning/tagging them when you post the projects online.
If you have any questions, feel free to contact me or any of these designers and websites. If you have questions regarding a specific pattern, I may be able to help, but if itâs from one of the sites, consider contacting the designer(s) first.
the importance of being earnest gdrive link for anyone who missed it or wants to watch it again âš
Interview with the vampire is sooo funny because jacob anderson is giving the performance of a lifetime as a black man struggling with identity in the early 1900s through the metaphor of vampirism and sam reid spends all of his screentime prancing around like a cartoon pony on amphetamines and theyre both equally captivating to watch
Still on a windows computer? does it run like crap?
Well Ubuntu is a wonderful and free OS you can get to replace it, but in the mean time I usually recommend these two edits to make windows run faster.
ADJUST ADVANCED SETTINGS
search for 'View Advanced System Settings' and click on the control panel view that pops up.
You should be in the Advanced tab, click on the Settings... button.
You will probably see all these turned on. TURN THEM OFF! You will probably want 'Smooth edges of screen fonts' to stay on since the font gets very pixelated without it. I also leave 'Show thumbnails instead of icons' since I personally like seeing image previews in File Explorer.
Your windows will feel much different after turning lots of these off, come back here and make adjustments if needed.
Ok second edit
DISABLE WEB SEARCH
This requires what is know as a RegEdit. These directions will only add one Key:Value DWORD pair via the PowerShell terminal. But do know, deleting the wrong thing in Registry Editor can break your computer. We will be creating this Key with PowerShell so it will not delete anything in your Registry but if it makes you uncomfortable then please skip this step!
Windows added a bunch of behind the scene web searches all over the place, when you click the start button, Web Search! when you open file explorer, Web Search! What is it web searching? who knows! but it lags anything that interacts with it, which is everything, Thanks Windows.
You can turn this web search off by making this registry edit.
First search for PowerShell > Open
Once the terminal opens type in:
Set-ItemProperty -Path "HKCU:\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Search" -Name "BingSearchEnabled" -Value 0
Mine has fancy color coding, yours might not!
This Set-ItemProperty command will create a new Key Item at location "HKCU:\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Search" inside our Registry, it will call this key "BingSearchEnabled" and set its value to 0 (the zero value turns it off).
Reboot your computer and the new Key will load into your windows and Look At That no more unnecessary web searching happening in the background.
Now that you have taken your first steps to becoming a GREAT HACKER, making the next step to a Linux OS will be less scary!
Very excited to share my first crossstitch pattern with you!
It's for my "A Glimpse in Space " artwork (100x100), adjusted to dmc thread colors. đ

LOTRâs concept artists designed the films as a âjourney back in timeâ
So (according to the concept art book) as the Fellowship travels deeper into Middle Earth, the places they pass through become inspired by progressively older periods of history. The farther along you are in the story, the more ancient the design influences
We begin in The Shire: which feels so familiar because, with its tea-kettles and cozy fireplaces, itâs inspired by the relatively recent era of rural England in the 1800s
But when we leave Hobbiton, we also leave that familiar 1800s-England aesthetic behind and start going farther back in time.Â
Bree is based on late 1600s English architecture
Rohan is even farther back, based on old anglo-saxon era architecture (400s-700s? ce)
Gondor is way back, and no longer the familiar English or Anglo-Saxon: its design comes from classical Greek and Roman architecture
And far far FAR back is Mordor. Itâs a land of tents and huts: prehistoric, primitive, primeval. Cavemen times
And the heart of Mordor is a barren lifeless hellscape of volcanic rockâŠlike a relic from the ages when the world was still being formed, and life didnât yet exist
And then they finally reach Mount Doom, which one artist described asÂ
âwhere the ring was made, which represents, in a sense, the moment of creation itselfâ

Crawling out of my hole to remind people that with this current update to Firefox (version 144) they've gone and dumped in their lot with a buncha lil AI tools, namely Perplexity as a new search engine.
So if the sound of that leaves your mouth tasting of tar, here's what you want to do:
In the url bar, type in about:config
It'll give you a big scary warning page that you might poke holes in your browser. Good. You want to do that. Click continue.
One by one, you're going to need to put each of these into the search bar in the page, not up top:
browser.ml.enable browser.ml.chat.enabled extensions.ml.enabled browser.ml.linkPreview.enabled browser.tabs.groups.smart.enabled browser.tabs.groups.smart.userEnabled
Each of these are gonna have a lil toggle icon on the right hand side that looks like a funky double-ended arrow. Click that and the value next to it should change to false. It all auto saves as you go. Some of these might already be set to false by default and that's peachy.
The next best thing you can do for yourself is to set your default search engine to udm14 or Qwant, but for now, we're just tidying the garden a lil bit.
but on the real though, here is your guide to assyrian rice preparation from your friendly neighborhood assyrian:
start wanting rice. (or, if you are traditional, simply recognize your constant desire for rice.)
measure out two cups of rice. then one more. then two more. then another. this seems fine. you love rice. there is no way that this will backfire on you.
remember that your great-great-uncleâs recipe says it should be soaked overnight.
become consumed with despair.
decide to soak it for half an hour instead, acknowledging that the final product will be inferior and anger your ancestors but will still satisfy your now almost-overwhelming need for rice to be inside your body much faster.
remember that you should have set the water to boil when you soaked the rice. goddammit.Â
once the water boils, put the rice in until it is half-cooked. the eyeballing or intuitive method is less effective than a timer but thatâs how your aunt does it so you feel compelled to meet her standards.
now that the rice has fluffed up, realize how much rice six dry cups really is. holy shit. youâve fucked up immeasurably.Â
take a minute to dwell upon your failings.
grease a baking dish with butter. this will never be as elegant as you want it to and your fingers will get greasy, but the slightly shameful, self-indulgent joy of licking your fingers afterwards will make up for it.
pour the rice into the dish. wonder immediately if you actually buttered the dish beforehand and if youâve just fucked up.Â
melt approximately one thousand pounds of butter in the microwave and pour it over the rice, pondering your imminent death from rapid-onset arterial clogging. put a small pat of butter on the top to properly gild the lily.
put your pan into the oven, which you have absolutely preheated after your previous lack of foresight. shake the rice once or twice while it bakes to make sure the butter is well distributed. resist the impulse to climb into the oven with the rice. for the last ten minutes, sit next to the oven and count the seconds until itâs done.
remove the dish from the oven. shed a tear or two at the perfection laid before you. if you are dining with others, this is the time to serve the rice while making passive-aggressive statements about how oh no, you donât need any help, you just made dinner all by yourself, you can serve everyone as well. (this is still fun if done alone, but optional.)
CONSUME THE RICE.
realize that you have eaten half of the dish in one sitting. no matter how much rice you made, this will always happen.Â
put the leftovers away, if there are any, and enjoy a cup of chai while marveling at the amount of food you have just eaten. if possible, fall asleep in an armchair, sitting up, head tilted slightly back, like a grandpa.
for the rest of the evening, think fondly of how much rice you have in the fridge now and how many meals it will supplement, refusing to acknowledge that you will almost certainly eat the rest of it in a few hours for a midnight meal.
i really played myself with this post huh. every time it gets a note i start wanting rice.
for anyone who wants it, here is my familyâs actual recipe for assyrian baked rice:
1lb / approx. 2 â cups basmati rice (any long-grain rice will do)
3 tbsp salt
8 tbsp / 1 stick butter (you can reduce this if you donât want to have a heart attack)
Put the rice in a pot and cover it in cold water and salt. Let it soak overnight. (If you donât have the time to soak it, rinse the rice with cold water until it runs clear.)
Edit: The reason you want to soak basmati and other aromatic rice before cooking is to preserve more acetylpyrroline, the compound that gives aromatic rice its characteristic scent and flavor. Soaking rice allows the grains to absorb water, which reduces the cooking time, which means less time for the acetylpyrroline to cook off. Itâll still taste pretty good if you canât do this, but you donât want âpretty goodâ, you want mind-blowing, so for that perfect flavor youâll want to soak your rice overnight. The soaking process also washes away the layer of starch on the outside of the rice, which allows the grains to separate rather than sticking together; this is why you want to rinse your rice thoroughly if you donât have time to soak it.
Preheat your oven to 325°.
Boil three quarts of water in a separate pot. Once itâs at a fast boil, drain the rice and add it to the water. Boil for 5-7min or until one grain tastes half-cooked, but not soft. Pour the rice into a colander and rinse with cold water.
Edit: This step also helps get rid of any remaining starch on your grains, for perfectly separated rice. If your colander or strainer has large holes, you can put a paper towel/cheesecloth/clean dishcloth on the inside in order to drain your rice. Pour carefully if youâre using a paper towel, though, and put a bowl underneath your colander; I once lost a heartbreaking amount of rice when my paper towel got oversaturated and tore open.
Liberally grease the bottom of your baking pan with some of your butter. Pour the rice on top. Melt the rest of the butter in the microwave and pour on top of the rice.
Bake for 45min. (If you like, cover the rice for part or all of the baking time, but I find it gets less crispy on top if you do this.) Shake the pan a couple times during baking to ensure that the butter distributes throughout the entire dish.
Eat.
Serves four. Can easily be scaled up if needed (or down, but why would you do that?). Best enjoyed with a nice cup of chai.
(cc @raisedbyhyenas )
