Ignoring the whole “what the fuck was that ending”, what was any of it?? The whole stuff with Micheal was so random and out of nowhere. The whole plot of the Second Coming and Jesus might as well have been kicked to the curb, it didn’t do anything in the overall outcome!!

Uzi always knew what she wanted in life.
She wasn’t necessarily a “go-getter” like her boss’s wife, or a charismatic people-pleaser like her dad.
But she knows what she was good at and what she was bad at.
She was good at things like blueprints, weaponry, infodumping anime facts to all her… 3 friends, eyeliner, and she could make a mean instant ramen.
She was bad at things like sports, singing, public speaking, expressing her feelings (that weren’t excitement or pure rage), and socializing.
So when her boss offered her an invitation to JCJenson’s (the company she works for) Valentine’s ball, she stifled a laugh.
“Awe, come on, gal!” Tessa, the boss in particular, pleaded.
“Sorry, I uh.. don’t think I’ll be able to make it. I’ve got something.” That was a damn lie, she was just gonna go back to her dad’s place and watch anime.
“But you’ve always got somethin’! Can’t cha make an exception just this once?” Tessa held the invitation out to the 5’3” woman in front of her.
The paper in particular had fancy writing in a pinkish gold tint that read as:
JCJenson ON EAAAAAAAAARTH!!!!!!!!! proudly invites [INSERT NAME HERE] as a plus one to our Valentines Ball on February 14th, 2026, at 7pm.
Plus one? So this wasn’t an “all employees” thing?
Was Uzi even really an “employee”? She had only been an intern there for about a year. Ugh, Uzi didn’t waste much time on those somatics. She also didn’t waste much time on thinking if “somatics” was the right word.
“Plus one? It’s a Valentine’s ball; why not invite your wife?” Uzi questioned.
“Jaybird’s- I mean, Jay’s already invited, since she made CEO late last year!!” Tessa proudly bragged. Uzi felt her eyes roll. “Besides, I think it would be good for ya!! It’ll give you a chance to meet some of the higher-ups and make connections. A new position just opened up, and if you make a good impression, you might get a chance to get that application in!”
That caught Uzi’s attention. A new position? If she played her cards right, this could be her chance to make a name for herself, save up and move out on her own, and earn some respect for once! But- uh- mostly the “make a name for herself” part.
Uzi had been dying to live on her own, ever since high school really. Let me rephrase that: high school especially. Things are fine now, but back then her relationship with her dad was… rocky. Her mom had just passed away, and he ended up practically burying himself in his work, neglecting both his and Uzi’s needs. Over time things started to get better (lotsa therapy and tears), but there was still that need to get out and leave it all behind.
But was socializing really worth that slim chance of that happening?
“Why me?” Uzi asked after receiving the invitation.
“You’re one of the hardest-working people ‘ere!” That much was true; Uzi had always been hardworking. And better than everyone else.
“Just think about it, ‘right?” Tessa offered a smile.
After a moment of silence, she begrudgingly took the paper from her boss’s hand with a groan.
“Atta gal!” Tessa patted Uzi on the back, then she went back off into her office.
The ball was tonight, so she didn’t exactly have much time to think about it.
Uzi sighed and threw the invite into her bag, promptly forgetting about it while she went back into the workshop.

Uzi got home and threw herself onto her bed after showering and putting on some PJs. An old band shirt hung over her like a crappily made kid’s Halloween costume, and her legs donned purple and black pajama pants with little bats on them.
After about a minute of simply screaming into her pillow, she flipped over on her bed and rummaged through her backpack for her laptop. She eventually pulled it out, only to see a piece of paper stuck to one of the stickers peeling off of the case. ‘I really gotta swap those out’ she thought to herself as she peeled off the paper. She recognized it as the invite from earlier, the one she honestly had forgotten about.
She tossed it to the side and opened up her laptop. Netflix automatically opened up, and she was about to click on her own profile when she saw her dad’s right next to it. She couldn't help but feel… indebted. She was 21; she couldn’t pay for her own Netflix account? She couldn’t pay for a lot of things, actually.
Her internship paid, but not well. Corporate, horraaaayy.
It was also ironic. You’d think anyone would jump at the chance to have their parents pay for everything, but not Uzi. Maybe it was her wanting to be independent, or maybe it was her not wanting to be seen as a snotty spoiled rich brat (her own words when describing her old classmates).
Her dad was pretty well off, too. Something Uzi used to be sorta embarrassed of. No, he wasn't a first responder or musician or anything cool like that. He built doors. He owned a security company. Sounds sorta cool on the surface, till you’re his teenage daughter being bullied at school after a certain someone claims, “Doors are my real daughter!” in an interview.
Uzi then thought back to the ball. A chance to prove herself to “important people.” A chance to be independent.
She groaned and picked up the invite that fell to her side. Her eyes fell to the tiny text that read “Black Tie Formal” and “7pm”.
She looked over at the clock on her homescreen that read “5:17 PM.” She had less than two hours, where the hell was she supposed to find a formal dress?
Her eyes, searching for an answer in anything, fell to her laptop’s homescreen. A picture of her mom braiding a 4-year-old Uzi’s hair was set as her wallpaper. Sometimes it was scary just how much she looked like her; her dad reminded her constantly. She did miss her, or, well, the memories she had of her. She remembered her long-faded purple hair, watching movies together, the long dresses she used to wear…
Uzi then shot up. She quickly got up and made a beeline to the garage, finding a box labeled “Nori’s Kooky Stuff”. She opened it carefully and found exactly what she was looking for.
Remember that part about the two’s scary resemblance? Well, it apparently also applied to clothes. Admittedly, Uzi’s style resembled an angsty MCR fan more then a gothic witch, but they where similar enough regardless. And, exactly what Uzi needed.
Still helping me out, even in the afterlife, huh?
Uzi carefully shifted through the box before finding black fingerless gloves with spiderweb designs, black open-toed heels, and a floor length sleeveless purple gown with black flowers embroidered in the fabric.
After going to her room and trying the items on, she looked at herself in the mirror, making sure everything fit okay. Her hands ran down her figure as she checked herself out in the mirror.
Is this what people even wear to “balls”? I always thought they were just a fairy tale thing…
Her thoughts were interrupted by a knock and creak of her door.
“Uzi, was that you in the garage earlier-!” her father stopped in his tracks when he saw his daughter in front of him.
“Oh- I’m- uh-...” Uzi cleared her throat. “...I’m going out…”
“I can see that.” Khan leaned on the door frame. “...Is that your mother’s old dress?”
“Yeah, it is… I hope that was okay…?”
“No, no, great! You- uh…” Khan paused. “...You look great.”
“Thanks…” Uzi went back to the mirror, grabbing some black lipgloss and applying it.
“...So… is there a uh… special someone, or…?”
The makeup wand smeared against her face after he said that.
“Ew, bite me, no!! It’s just a work thing…” Uzi reached for her makeup wipes.
Khan breathed a sigh of relief. “Thank goodness! Wasn’t ready for THAT conversation yet!”
“Dad, I’m 21 years old.” Uzi complained as she wiped the smear off her face.
“W-Well, you know me!” Khan rebutted. “I have to make sure whoever you take an interest in is up to standards!”
“Bite me! I’ll date whoever I want, regardless of YOUR ‘standards’!!!”
Khan sighed. “I know, I know…”
They stood there in silence for a moment while Uzi finished fixing her eyeliner. When she looked back in the mirror, she saw her father’s reflection tearing up.
Uzi turned to face him quizzically. “What?”
Khan didn’t even realize he was tearing up, and he raised a hand to both wipe and cover his face. “Sorry, its just… you look so much like-”
“-like mom?” Uzi cut him off. “You’ve only told me a million times.”
“Right, right…” Khan trailed off.

The clack of Uzi’s heels pushed their way past the party-goers to the bathroom.
What was she doing here? This was for crazy rich people, not 21-year-olds who still lived with their dad.
The door closed and locked behind her, and she leaned against the sink and looked at herself in the mirror.
This was a mistake. Everyone here had something to say about either her hair or her status or her clothes. It was all stupid. She should’ve just stayed home and watched anime.
She wasn’t meant for this.
She splashed some water on her face, grabbed her purse, and pushed open the door.
“OOF!”
Only the door opened halfway, and when she looked back to see what it hit, someone peered from behind it.
“Did you just slam this door in my face?”
Uzi’s face melted into pure horror.
“Holy crap, I am so sorry.”
“N-no! It’s fine!” The man stepped to the side of the door, now in full view. Uzi’s eyes trailed his person quickly. Uzi knew she was short, but sheesh, this guy’s very existence insulted her height. He had big gray eyes and just the smallest amount of stubble on the ends of his pale face. His messy blond hair practically reflected light off of it but was mostly hidden under an old pilot’s hat. He also donned a dark gray suit, tie, and dress shoes.
The two fell into an awkward silence before Uzi spoke up.
“W-well, I need to-” Uzi trailed off and her thumb pointed to the door.
“Y-Yeah! Yeah-”
“EN!!!”
A voice broke through, and before “En” could respond, arms crashed around his body, and he let out another “OOF!” The culprit was Uzi’s boss herself, Tessa, who was now in a fancy frilly black gown.
“Hi Tessa…!” En managed to break through. The shorter woman broke off and met eyes with Uzi.
“Oh, you’ve met! Brilliant! En, this is Uzi Doorman, one of my best interns over at the mechanics branch. Uzi, this is my cousin En!” Tessa introduced the two and forcefully brought the pair’s hands together in a handshake.
“N-Nice to meet you!” En awkwardly but happily stuttered out.
“Yeah, you too…” Uzi shook his hand reluctantly. So much for an Irish exit…
“And you both’ve met the missus, Jay!”
Ah, great…
A woman with darker skin and white braids tied back into two pigtails stepped next to Tessa. She wore a long, tight, black dress.
“Shut in.” Jay greeted Uzi.
“Kiss-ass.” Uzi greeted her back.
“Hi Jay!” En waved enthusiastically.
“En?” Jay questioned, mildly surprised. “Didn’t expect to see you here. Figured you’d be alone crying over a crayon drawing alone in your apartment.”
“Haha! Good one, Jay!” En laughed uncomfortably. “So-... so funny!!”
Uzi’s face crumpled with sympathy for the poor guy.
“Oh look, somewhere these two aren’t…” Jay’s heels clicked away.
“Ah- glad you two could make it!” Tessa quickly smiled at the two before quickly following after her wife.
“Why do you let her push you around like that?” Uzi turned to En and questioned.
“Hm? O-Oh, Jay?” En rubbed the back of his neck. “I-I guess I just don’t want to start anything or get in anyone’s way…”
“She’s clearly being mean because she knows you won’t do anything back. You should say something.”
“I-I know, I just… I dunno…” En sighed. “I don’t wanna be an inconvenience.”
“She’s the inconvenience!!” Uzi bites back. “You need to learn how to stand up for yourself, dude!”
“Okayyy… how do I do that?”
“Uhhh…” Uzi rubbed her chin in contemplation. “Here, try this; Jay, stop being such a bitch.”
En laughed. “Maybe, but a bitch is a pregnant dog! And I love dogs!”
“And you don’t love Jay. Unless you're into that kinda thing…”
“What- no! No! Definitely not!”
“Okay then, try this:” Uzi cleared her throat. “Jay, I would appreciate it if you stopped insulting me… becauseyouranastybitch.” She quickly added on, and En laughed again.
“I’ll consider it…” En looked to the side before shifting the conversation. “So, you work with Tessa?”
“Oh, yeah.” Uzi replied, thoughts of leaving now gone from her mind. “I’m an intern at the mechanical branch. But- uh- she already told you that- anyways, I specialize in mostly weaponry. Guns… guns… you know, that sorta thing.”
“That sounds cool!” En replied. “My sister is really into that kinda stuff. I could never make anything like that, though. Haha…”
“Well, what do you do then?’
“Oh!” En got a bit more sheepish. “I’m an art student at FinalFinalUni.”
“An art student?” Uzi suddenly got a tiny bit more interested. “What kinda art?” Like animation? She silently asked in her head.
“Mostly painting, but I have been doing a lot of photography more recently!” En pointed across the hall to a painting of a golden retriever puppy hung up on the wall. “I actually did that piece for my cousin’s birthday!”
“Holy hell, dude! That looks sick!” Uzi gawked.
“Hehe, thanks!” En blushed a little, then picked at the hairs on the back of his neck. “Most people think that art’s a waste of time.”
“Well I say all those people can bite me!” Uzi crossed her arms over her chest. “Screw em if they can’t see the beauty in what you do.”
En looked down at her in some sense of… surprise? Awe?
“...Hey, would you maybe wanna-”
“En!” Tessa and Jay walked back over. “The presentation’s about to start.” She looked over at Uzi. “You coming?”
Uzi looked at En, who was looking back at her with hopeful eyes. She almost said yes, before letting fear get the better of her when looking back at the crowd.
She shrugged. “Nah, I think I’m gonna head out.”
“Aw, darn!” Tessa waved when walking away. “Get home safe, then!”
“Come on, imbecile." Jay motioned over to En.
En looked over at Uzi, who gave him a look that said ‘do it now!’.
“Uh, Jay?” En started, his feet planted and hands in fists. Jay looked back at him quizzically. “You're sometimes kinda mean to me, and I wish you weren’t… Justsomeconstructivecriticism!!”
Jay paused, raised an eyebrow at him, then over at Uzi.
“...Whatever. I don’t have time for… whatever this is…” She walked away.
En looked back at Uzi expectantly.
“Nice!” Uzi gave him a proud thumbs up before walking away and out of the door.
Luckily for En, she didn’t see the big dopy grin that plastered over his face after.

Friday, September 28th
The night before the competition
Hailey hadn’t gotten much sleep lately, even after making up with Jake. The nights leading up to the competition had been… stressful.
They’d gone over their performance song countless times, but Hailey couldn’t shake this lingering anxiety. Call her a perfectionist (everyone else already had), but she didn’t want a single thing going wrong during their performance.
Right now, she was wide awake at 3am, and her anxiety hadn’t gotten any better. She tried listening to music, breathing exercises, the 54321 trick, literally anything in an attempt to chill the hell out.
She decided to get up and get some water. She figured she wasn’t gonna get much sleep anyways, might as well do something to keep her occupied. However, entire walk to the kitchen and back she was spiraling.
What if she tripped and fell on stage?
What if she forgot her own lyrics?
What if her voice cracked and someone posted a video online and she went viral for being “the girl who messed up the performance for everyone”?
By the time she got back to her room, her heart had started racing, her breath had picked up pace, and she felt almost nauseous. She’d had anxiety attacks before, but usually someone was always there to help her. Zander was spending the night at Luke’s, and she didn’t wanna wake her parents up. She felt helpless.
She put the glass down and started pacing around her room, putting her hands behind her neck and trying to breathe.
This whole competition is a waste of time.
You’ll only make a fool of yourself.
You’ll never amount to anything.
Her back pressed against the bed as she held back tears.
Her hand hit against her phone, and her screen lit up. She noticed an unread message from Jake from a couple of hours ago. She clicked on it for no reason at all.

Attached was a picture of Jake’s border collie sleeping over Jake’s lap.
She also saw that Jake was online. Maybe he couldn’t sleep like her? Or maybe the app was glitching, did she even wanna risk it?
Her heart only picked up speed, so she decided to just bite the bullet. She was desperate, after all. She tapped the “call” button on his contact and held the phone up to her ear.
“...Hello? Hails…?” It rang for maybe 8 seconds before Jake picked up, his voice groggy. Shit, he was probably sleeping.
“H-hey, I’m sorry, did I wake you? I uhm d-didn’t mean-“ Hailey’s voice was clearly on the verge of breaking. Jake immediately sensed something was up, and sheets rustled as he sat up in bed.
“No, no, you’re fine- what’s wrong? Are you okay?” His voice woke up, a bit panicked.
“I-I’m fine, I just-… I just haven’t been able to sleep because I’ve been nervous about the performance, and I know it’s stupid but-“
“Hey, no, don’t say it’s stupid, okay? You’re allowed to be nervous.” He cut her off.
“But we’ve practiced it like 80 times, and I’m still scared that something might go wrong. Like, what if i forget the lyrics, or-”
“Stop thinking about the ‘what if’s. You can’t control the future. You’re getting yourself all worked up over something that hasn’t even happened and most likely will not happen.” Hailey pondered on his words a little as he paused. “What’s happening in this present moment?”
“U-uhm… I’m talking to you on the phone?”
“And that’s something you can control. Maybe what you need is a distraction… Here-“ Jake shifted himself on the bed, his voice softer. “Tell me just how bad my music taste is.”
Hailey let out a teary laugh. “Hah, the worst…”
“Yeah? Describe how idiotic it is. Go on, gimmie the details. Don’t hold back. I can take it.” He playfully requested.
Hailey could already feel herself smiling. How’d he always know what to say? She wiped her tears and took a deep breath.
