hello, we’re the Rainy Library Collection, a 23 year old mixed origin DID system. I& go by Rain or 07/Seven. please ask our pronouns or use our name. we tend to default to I/me or i&/me& over we/us even when talking about collective things as a note.

I am multiply disabled and brain damaged. please be patient. sometimes I talk very simply, because of that and/or have a hard time understanding things. sometimes i go inactive for long periods of time due to my disabilities as well.

I am schizospec & have multiple personality disorders, as well as being medium support needs autistic. I can come off odd or flat in tone often because of this. leave if that bothers you.

It's very amusing to realize that when that old guy shouts "bah, humbug!" That's the modern equivalent to "Ah, bullshit!" Or "Ah, scammer!"

But because none of the teachers that ever read these books to students explain what the word humbug means, (which is another word for a charlatan, a scammer, a trickster, somebody who pretends to be able to do magic or miracle cures and is just trying to steal your money!) People are left to infer, incorrectly, that it is simply a random exclamation of annoyance.

nope. It's a very specific complaint to make. Calling someone or something a humbug is directly saying that they are lying to pretend to be magical and amazing or a miracle doctor, something like that, but they're literally just after your money, or fame for the sake of fame!!

Just like how apparently Bugs Bunny calling the dude "Nimrod" was meant to be ironic, because Nimrod was apparently the best hunter ever, but meanwhile this guy is terrible at it.

But because that reference was never explained to anybody, Nimrod now has been incorrectly inferred to mean somebody who's extremely foolish and gullible.

I'm sure there's plenty more examples of this phenomenon, it's funny, but also a little sad. We've all been missing out on the joke this whole time.

A development in the past year or so that I find fascinating is that many, many newly discovered intersex folks are feeling like they’re “not intersex enough.” Now, this is a classic occurrence, but why it’s so intriguing to me is that the people this is happening with are people with VH/PUGS. People with classically ambiguous genitalia do not feel intersex enough. I understand why in the past some folks with hormonal variations have felt “less intersex” due to the heavy emphasis by doctors, society at large, and even intersex communities on genital ambiguity, but where is this new wave of insecurity coming from? When I found out my genitalia were ambiguous, that was when I really stopped questioning or doubting I was intersex, personally, but now it seems there is some kind of other benchmark people are going by that I missed.

I have some theories, but I’d love to hear from the rest of the community itself.

idk how to explain it but im never truly comfortable with the way people insinuate that all older folks are inherently bigoted. it always feels like it kind of hand-waves away personal responsibility like ohhhh grandpa cant help homophobic, hes old. well ive met plenty of older folks who are normal about gay people. i think grandpa could be better. i think we should hold grandpa to higher standards.

the thing about media literacy is that understanding why the author chose to specify that the curtains are blue is the same skill set as understanding that the way the author characterizes all black characters as angry or all chinese characters as meek and silent is racist. it is the same skill set as being able to identify when a news source is biased or when someone is feeding you propaganda. the ability to ask "why did this person choose to present this premise in this specific way?" is a critical skill in a world full of misinformation. why are the curtains blue? maybe it's a characterization detail. maybe it's extraneous worldbuilding. why is this character written as being right all the time? maybe you're intended to disagree with them. maybe it doesn't matter. maybe you should still ask why.
