Michael Afton Headcanons

Because I started thinking about it and oops now there's a whole list. This is for game Mike, not movie Mike!

This is very much against fanon, but after Sister Location, I don't think he stayed a zombie forever. I think he healed to Regular Sickly Man levels, but there's still something imperceptibly off about him where you can almost tell he's a revenant.

For example, he doesn't blink after Sister Location

And he gets random spontaneous bruises that develop big and ugly on his skin and take several days to heal

Watermelon gum is only the beginning, he always has to be chewing on something, ever since he was a kid. This is why he munches popcorn while watching TV and drinks soda on shift. Failing this, he will chew on pencils, his shirtsleeves, his collar...

He loves drawing (basically canon in the logbook)

He also likes listening to the radio, especially weird late-night radio when he's at work

Agoraphobic and socially avoidant

Despite only watching "comfort food TV," he likes long, bleak, classical novels

Everything he eats is unreasonably salty

His accent is actually an interesting British-American blend when he's just naturally talking. When talking to his dad, he defaults to his full British accent because that's how he was accustomed to speaking to William when growing up.

I’m not obsessed with OG michael afton because I fell for fanon-ified fanart that made him look pretty, I’m actually just obsessed with the idea of accidentally killing someone you love in the most graphic way possible. something about the weight of guilt shadowing you for the rest of your life, eating you alive bit by bit everyday. you can’t be called horrendously evil, because you never meant to do it—but there is just something about you, something so innately cruel, something that juts out of place, that makes your mere existence a catalyst for tragedy. and you didn’t just kill your brother, you killed your father too—the father you loved, who may have loved you once, long ago, if you remember right—because this thing stalking your house isn’t your father anymore. and you don’t try to set things right because you’re a hero, you do it because it’s your debt to pay, you started this and goddamn it you’re going to finish it. and when the monster finally meets his end, you sit down and you burn with it, because at the end of the day you’ve always looked the same in a mirror.

michael in so many meetings and phone calls and business bullshit after william’s death, desperately trying to live up to this part of his Purpose too and be the heir he’s meant to be, but he is just so offputting. raised in isolation and kept intentionally dependent and helpless so he is Weird, acting in many ways like a child, so clearly out of place. sat in a hoodie with greasy hair being given dubious looks by men in suits, either not making eye contact at all or staring into their eyes so sharply. relentlessly fidgeting and fiddling, keeps forgetting to listen, keeps interrupting and saying weird stuff. they all hate him. but that, at least, is familiar.
