happy fourth of july to the philippines ONLY
link to article
hi, filipino here. just want to say that our independence day is june 12, not july 4. july 4 is when the united states government decided that they would recognize our freedom, specifically because it is your independence day and they wanted to cement their cultural hegemony over our country. and because of their influence on our country this was recognized for a time as our independence day. we still commemorate it, but i hope you can understand why we donât want our independence day to be associated so closely with our former colonizer. it wasnât even a work holiday for us.
june 12 is the day that we filipinos declared our own independence for ourselves, and that is what we celebrate as independence day
happy june 12 to you
It's so fucking baffling to me that hospitals went back to not masking. Like good news, we have lots of empirical evidence that masking prevents infections! Now to go back to walking around this absolute petri dish of a building filled with extremely vulnerable people unmasked
does anyone know if we have transmasc and transfem love and friendship today
We do. And tomorrow and the next day and every day forever and ever and ever too. :)
a long time ago i was struggling with being transmasc because i felt like i was betraying womanhood somehow. then one of my best friends came out as a trans woman and i realised "ah... there will always be so many beautiful women in the world, so it's okay that i'm not one of them". what i'm trying to say is you need to love each other or there's no point to any of this
in a reversal of this. when i came out as transfem i was almost dissapointed because i spent so long trying to be a truly good man. i was raised with a lot of shitty guys so i tried to be the most pro-feminist comfortable dude i could be for the women around me. when my egg cracked, i almost felt this feeling of "shit, are the only men who think like this secretly women inside?" and it feels nice to see that proven so utterly and completely wrong by the trans men i know in my life. i love seeing people take on the masculinity i hated and do amazing shit with it, god bless trans dudes
Trans women are just strictly superior at everything I guess.
Truly speechless at this. "Cis women are so dainty and fragile that moving chess pieces for too long exhausts them."
Please acquire some self-respect (and maybe learn statistics). I am taking psychic damage over here.
So much of transphobia is just exaggerated sexism (or reheated homophobia).
This one is always on my mind. And always relevant.
touch-starvation needs to be written with emphasis on the starving part. you are hungry to be touched. so hungry that even the very taste of it makes you nauseous. it has been long since anything has ever touched you, ever fed you - that your body has grown more used to that gnawing emptiness more than anything else. it's better for you to be held, to eat but it makes you sick to try. you know
lowkey kinda hate how all the pride flags are just stripes, can we get some shapes up in here pls
I designed the QUILTBAG Sun flag a couple weeks ago for my button pins because the rectangular designs descended from the Progress Pride Flag donât work as circles.
(Anyone can use the design, a just only have the pin blank on hand to show it.)
âI learned about it almost by accident. We had received an assignment in school to fill out a family tree. I came home, a bit baffled by the assignment (fill in some names? thatâs it?), and became more baffled still when, after asking my parents for help, it turned out that most of those branches on the family tree were going to have to remain blank. I implored my parents to try to remember. I became desperate, begging them to just make up some names. (I was about to receive a lesson in ethics and family history all at once.) As delicately as they could, my parents told me my motherâs parents were orphaned when they were young. That my momâs aunt, who helped raise her, was not actually her aunt, but a member of the makeshift family that formed in the Beirut orphanage where my grandparents met and grew up. I remember asking what happened and being told that there had been fighting in a country called Turkey, where my grandparents were born (yet another revelation: they werenât even from Beirut!). That bad things had happened and many people died but my grandparents survived. That they were little when they were found and rescued and taken to Beirut. I thought about my grandpa. My always smiling, cuddly dede, who only had one eye and whom I loved more than anything. Who wore a beret, snuck me candy bars, and sang funny songs to me while the bombs fell that time we visited Beirut. It all suddenly became too much. I just wanted to finish my assignment. I asked for just enough information to include in a note for my teacher. And so, I scrawled on the bottom of that half-empty family tree, âI couldnât fill in all the names because of the Armenian genocide. One million people died but my grandparents survived. You can ask my parents.ââ

âSubvertingâ Catholic art? Oh, okay. I see, you think this has nothing to do with you. You log onto the internet and you post about how âWound of Christâ from Psalter and Prayer Book of Bonne de Luxembourg, attributed to Jean le Noir, c.1349, for instance, looks like a vulva because you're trying to tell the world that you enjoy Catholic art and imagery in an alternative, queer, risquĂ© way that challenges Christian beliefs. But what you don't know is that that stigma isnât just a vulva. It's not just a mandorla. It's not just yonic. It's actually intentionally erotic. And you're also blithely unaware of the fact that around 1297, Saint Angela of Foligno experienced a vision of Christ himself, who called her to put her mouth to the wound in his side and lick the freshly flowing blood. And then I think it was Saint Catherine of Siena who drank blood and a clear liquid from the wound before receiving a ring made from Christâs foreskin? And then graphically erotic encounters with the side wound of Christ quickly showed up in the writings of eight different mystics. And then the yonic interpretation of the stigmata filtered down through the illuminated manuscripts and then trickled on down into some pseudo-intellectual corner of the internetâŠwhere you, no doubt, fished it out of some Pinterest board. However, that interpretation represents hundreds of years and countless visions of religious ecstasy. And it's sort of comical how you think that you've come up with an idea that exempts you from Christian theology when, in factâŠyou're posting an image that was sexualized for you by the very Medieval saints you think youâre so different thanâŠfrom âsubvertedâ Catholic art.
âYou think every citizen should have access to free and accessible healthcare?â
Wrong!!!
I think that Asylum seekers and Migrant workers and The Undocumented and Everyone Else should get free healthcare too
I love immigration
This one made the fascists and the racists really really mad. I get hate mail daily for this post
Imagine getting mad because someone elseâs childâs chemotherapy doesnât cost them 100,000$ .
biologists should not be allowed to name things
Gotta tell you guys something wild in the Chinese fan sphere
So some fanartist drew a âsexyâ (read: booby) version of a (cartoon) character who is traditionally very non-sexualised. Fans of the character got mad about it because itâs kind of groundbreaking how that character is written and portrayed and this art totally ignores the entire point of the character. They demanded the art be deleted. In response to that other people said, well what the fanartist did may be distateful but they have every right to draw what theyâre into. The two sides fight for days and each starts a harassment campaign and even report their âopponentsââ accounts.
So far so typical. But things eventually come to a head and they decide that this will be settled by votes - not through a poll. Through donations to a childrenâs education charity via each sideâs portal. Whoever can get the highest amount of donation wins.
And that is how this charity received over 1 million in donations in three days lol. Oh btw the âfreedom of expressionâ side won by a landslide (960k to 40k)
From now on this is how all petty fandom disputes should be settled.
I believe this whole heartedly with my full chest
Thanks for the info prev!! Still a little funny to think about tbh lol
if you live in {Not USA} and you make a tumblr post even slightly referencing what time it is where you live you will literally always have to deal with the "lucky 10 thousand" who dont fucking know what a time zone is
some people live places where summer autumn winter and spring do not exist like they do in the northern and southern hemispheres. which is why those tags say "not northern hemisphere". to include people who live on the equator. welcome to the lucky 10 thousand!
hi hi! I understand your scepticism, but I lived Here for half a decade:
and nnno we don't call it "winter" when it's december even though we're TECHNICALLY in the northern hemisphere. because it is 35+ degrees during december and 35+ degrees during july and 35+ degrees every other time of the year as well. so it doesn't really make sense to reference the typical northern/southern seasons when you live right on the equator!
we DO reference seasons as a CONCEPT but it wasn't summer/autumn/winter/spring. it was wet season/dry season. that's it.
[ID: Tags. #and god forbid you live in [not norther hemisphere] and mention what season it is
Second reblog. tags. #i like the implication that there are multiple other hemispheres #<- prev I know right #do we have posters from mars or something?

Third reblog. Tags. #ehhh that last bit feels like a stretch. #do people in equatorial places really not even reference seasons like just as a way to break up the year?

Theres currently some crows nesting on the building opposite us, and they still remember that we used to put out bird food years ago (had to stop because of too many neighbour complaints of loud jackdaws in the garden), and have managed to work out that they need a sneaky way to get food without alerting all the other birds.
This has had the consequence of me having to inform my flatmate that if he hears a polite knock at the kitchen window he needs to feed the crows or they WILL start trying to steal our cookbooks.
I wonder who could have done this. Surely not an innocent lil fella like this one
Broke af?
But still interested in feeding yourself? What if I told you that thereâs a woman with a blog who had to feed both herself and her young sonâŠon 10 British pounds ($15/14 Euro) per week?
Let me tell you a thing.
This woman saved my life last year. Actually saved my life. I had a piggy bank full of change and thatâs it. Many people in my fandom might remember that dark time as when I had to hock my writing skills in exchange for donations. I cried a lot then.Â
This is real talk, people: I marked down exactly what I needed to buy, totaled it, counted out that exact change, and then went to three different stores to buy what I needed so I didnât have to dump a load of change on just one person. I was already embarrassed, but to feel people staring? Utter shame suffused me. The reasons behind that are another post all together.Â
AgirlcalledJack.com is run by a British woman who was on benefits for years. Things got desperate. She had to find a way to feed herself and her son using just the basics that could be found at the supermarket. But the recipes she came up with are amazing.Â
You have to consider the differing costs of things between countries, but if you just have three ingredients in your cupboard, this woman will tell you what to do with it. Check what you already have. Chances are you have the basics of a filling meal already.Â
Hereâs her list of kitchen basics.Â
Bake your own bread. Itâs easier than you think. Hereâs a list of many recipes, each using some variation of just plain flour, yeast, some oil, maybe water or lemon juice. And kneading bread is therapeutic.Â
Make your own pastaâgluten free.Â
She gets it. She really does. This is the article that started it all. Itâs called âHunger Hurtsâ.
She has vegan recipes.
A carrot, a can of kidney beans, and some cumin will get you a really filling soupâŠor throw in some flour for binding and youâve got yourself a burger.Â
Donât have an oven or the stove isnât available? She covers that in her Microwave Cooking section.Â
She has a book, but many recipes can be found on her blog for free. She prices her recipes down to the cent, and every year she participates in a project called âLiving Below the Lineâ where she has to live on 1 BP per day of food for five days.Â
Things improved for me a little, but her website is my go to. I learned how to bake bread (using my crockpot, but that was my own twist), and I have a little cart full of things that saved me back then, just in case I need them again. She gives you the tools to feed yourself, for very little money, and thatâs a fabulous feeling.Â
Tip: Whenever you have a little extra money, buy a 10 dollar/pound/euro giftcard from your discount grocer. Stash it. Thatâs your super emergency money. Make sure they donât charge by the month for lack of use, though.
I donât care if it sounds like an advertisementâyou wonât be buying anything from the site. What I DO care about is your mental, emotional, and physical healthâand dammit, foodâs right in the center of that.Â
If you donât need this now, pass it on to someone who does. Pass it on anyway, because do you REALLY know which of the people in your life is in need? Which follower might be staring at their own piggy bank? Trust me: someone out there needs to see this.Â
