so in typical me fashion, I decided to last minute pick up fic binding so I could participate in the spring exchange hosted by @misc-marauders-fests
and why make one bind for an exchange when you can make as many as you can in the allotted time? π

Fan Fic Book Binding! Meet Me in the Exosphere by @euripidestrousers
I bound this for a friend as a gift. I designed the dust jacket inspired by the cover for Atmosphere. My incredible friend aysenicat (on ig) did the artwork of Sirius.
I kept the physical cover simple since the dust jacket was so much the star. I hand sewed the end bands and painted the edges with acrylic ink. I marbled the end pages. The lovely typeset is by @moonysbookshelves
Okay I read this fic on New Yearβs Eve of 2024 and that is how long I have been plotting ideas for a bind of it π Got there, finally, after having it live rent free for over a year, and Iβm really happy with the end result!!! The art included is likeafunerall (aka the art that inspired the fic!!) and the other one of Sirius skating is Spooke π Couldnβt resist making little trading cards of them to use as bookmarks β‘Μ

@moonysbookshelves made me this beautiful copy of my fic you wouldnβt like me and i canβt stop staring at it - this is the first time anyone has ever bound my fic and offered to send it to me, and i am so so grateful.
i wrote this story in 2023 with the hope that reading it could comfort others in the way creating it healed me - and it has, beyond my wildest dreams. but since then itβs also gotten more scary to be a trans person in the world - and in this fandom.
telling trans stories is vital, radical work. it is more necessary every day, in a current political climate thatβs only ramping higher & higher.
thank you again, rachel, for creating this perfect bind. thank you to greenie and @kaaaaaaarf for cheering me on since day one - this fic would not exist without you.

I never thought I would bind Crimson Rivers because it just feels so intimidating to do this masterpiece justice. For all the gory, angsty, depressy feels that Zar blessed us, I thought the magic of reading this felt like a Ghibli Studio film. So this deceiving-covers set was born lol.
I adore soooooo many relationships in this fic (it was the epitome of found family *sobs*) but I wanted to focus on the 4 the broke me the most: Jegulus, Wolfstar, Dorlene, and Black brothers ππ

It's hard for me not to compare Marlene to Mononoke. She's such a fighter and protector, yet perceived or even self-perceived as a wild beast or monster. Then Dorcas comes and shows her that she can be accepted and loved for exactly who she is... Also, that thing on her face isn't blood yall. It's just.. grape jelly ππ

This was probably one of my biggest projects. I wanted to really go all out and make this look like an old, ancient tome you could find in the Black family library. You can see I used the family tree them on the cover and spine. I enjoyed all of the details I put into it. I especially loved my chapter headers, which shifted with each volume. The incredible art is by @illustrationsbylyd (on ig) and features Regulus at different stages throughout the fic.
I rounded and backed each of these and learned a valuable lesson: when you get to 750 pages, it wonβt fit in the guillotine. And it will be a bitch to round and back. And youβll want to crawl in a hole. I really wanted to have lovely smooth edges and the sanding gods frowned upon me. My friend @copticcowgirl was so lovely and made me a make shift grattoir out of a farrier rasp and it made backing so much easier! The edges are decorated with acrylic ink and end bands sewn with soie perlee thread.

One thing that I was obsessed with while reading YSUFT was their playlists. Just the most perfect summer vibes. James' playlist in particular reignited my love for reggaeton and it brings me so much joy. Thus, these binds were born - each volume is a song that best represents Regulus and James.
