siffrin's lack of memories will never cease to make me sad. it's so good and so wrenching. it's like siffrin is a blank canvas, but the blankness is actually white paint smeared over something. you were sure there was something important, something beautiful, something worth keeping underneath. but you can't scrape off the white paint without ruining what's underneath. so you just take the canvas itself.
and you carry it around. covering it with the same white paint. because it's easier to draw the same thing over and over than risk making something new and beautiful only to lose it all over again.

I like how Toby simultaneously confimred that a) yes, Yellow was a Woody reference, and b) 90% of Woody Theory evidence was completely hallucinated
summer 2026 newsletter in a nutshell:
There truly is something to playing In Stars and Time and watching in fascination, wondering just what Siffrin's rock bottom will be as he continues to dig themself deeper and deeper, thinking you've finally reached it in act 5 and have made it through to the other side, and only after that, if you manage to find to find the bonus boss, do you realize that the actual worst possible version possible of Siffrin is the tutorial fairy who likes to roleplay as your neglected housewife.
I show up to the Biggest Galsei Truther Competition, holding my Ralseiplush, wearing all pink and green and a cute little bow in my hair. They are serving blue-and-pink drinks at the bar, and in the center of the room, there's a big pile of green hats that are being burned. Coming from everywhere, the sweet smell of cotton candy and cake floods the room. It's pretty crowded here, but I'll do just fine — I've been a Galsei fan for some time now. I know I'm going to win this.
But then, I hear it.
His theme.
And that's when I realize.
We lock eyes from across the room. He smirks.
There's no chance I'm winning this.
He waves at me.
I've been bested. Bested by him.
"Hey there, little guy."
It's Flowery the Flower Man.
”Noelle and Susie becoming a couple has caused Kris to feel isolated from their friends and their strong feelings for Susie (platonic or romantic) are causing them distress because they don’t feel like Susie can reciprocate them” Yes good excellent reading of Kris’s situation in chapter 5
“Noelle and Susie are bad friends to Kris and mistreat them/they’re a bad couple/they shouldn’t be together” Fuck offfffffff killing you killing you killing you

Also this is kinda off topic so I'm making a separate post but I think the focus on "natural talent" also contributes to skilled labor being so undervalued. Like when you are hiring someone to do a job or purchasing a handmade item, you are paying them not just for their time and the materials but also for the years and decades of experience they have, the training and practice and schooling they may have undergone to get to the point of skill where their services are desired by other people.
But when you look at that work and think, "This is made by someone who is naturally gifted at this," you aren't thinking of that experience and work. It makes it easy to see those products or services as a natural talent someone was born with and that they're choosing to share with the world, that it required minimal effort on their part, and so the high prices seem unnecessary instead of a reflection of that person's skill and work.
Like idk, maybe that custom embroidered pet potrait is $100+ because that person has spent the last 15 years perfecting their thread painting technique to create beautiful pieces that actually look like your pet and they want the price to reflect not just the hours they'll spend working on it but also the years they've spent building up their skillset to the point where you want their art as a permanent reminder of your pet.
When the actual academic scholarly book makes the tumblr meme post a reality.
reading about the participation of children in rituals as a form of play in ancient greece and came across an incredibly charming story from julius pollux's onomasticon where a flood prevented the adults from reaching a sanctuary to sacrifice a ram to heracles, and the children solved the problem by....sticking a bunch of sticks in an apple to give it "legs" and "horns" and offering it as a sacrifice instead. it's such a charming thought and i can perfectly picture kids these days also pretending at sacrificing an apple "goat" at recess
These days, lots of public libraries have a "library of things" collection where you can check out kitchen appliances or yard tools or toys, and, as a children's library assistant, the most popular library of things item that I handle regularly is a plastic scepter thingy called like "unicorn princess magic wand". And whenever I check it out I make a big show of looking at the little kid and being like "do you solemnly swear to use your unicorn princess magic powers only for good and never for evil?"
And pretty much without fail, the little kid will get the world's most mischievous grin and go "I'm gonna use it for EVIL!!!"
It is so ridiculously easy to gain a reputation for being competent by just reading signs.
This is not metaphorical. I mean actual, literal pieces of paper/plastic/metal/whatever explicitly erected to inform the public.
“How did you know this was the right trail?” I read the sign.
“Wow, how did you know what that flower is?” There’s a SIGN.
“How did you know we needed to use the side door?” THERE IS A SIGN POSTED ON THE FRONT DOOR.
Just…why are we having such different experiences of the world? People can read. I KNOW they can read. There’s nothing wrong with their vision.
Just. READ. THE. GOD. DAMN. SIGN.

thinking about how playful Odile is. parroting back animal sounds. playing up the “grumpy old woman” bit in a way that lets the others bounce their energy off of her. turning Mirabelle’s tutorial into a chance to tease everyone pop quiz style. promising dramatic retribution to anyone who wrongs her (wasabi sandwiches, may your house fall down on your horrified face, my revenge would be swift and absolute). letting Siffrin and Isabeau make guesses about her “research” instead of shutting it down because she likes to see what they come up with. the fact that “Opposite Ends of the Age Spectrum Alliance” was not invented for the hallway decision but something she and Bonnie had already come up with at some other time when they teamed up precanon. i linguini you, Siffrin.
woman who’s having the time of her life pretending to be a terrifying no-fun killjoy for the amusement of her friends
also the ways she lets people “in on” her playfulness like it’s a secret. no one can know i love to gossip, Mirabelle. only doing the animal parroting thing when she and Siffrin are alone and making no further comment as Siffrin ????????s about it. teaming up with Bonnie to “secretly” put potatoes in Siffrin’s pockets. poking fun at Isabeau about his crush before the others know about it but also genuinely being a confidant. secret quests. all the ways she connects with each of them individually and makes each of those connections feel special and secretive and mysterious in a “we’re playing spies together” kind of way
hiding tidbits and information about herself from the others not because she would hate it if they knew, but in the way you can hide treats in a toy and watch your cats a) figure out that there’s something in there that they want b) struggle to get at it and c) get all excited when they finally succeed. it’s enrichment for all of them
the loop partner line is so funny because the fandom will post all about it for months and then stop for a little while until someone brings it up again and everyone is back to collectively pondering Why They Said That. they can't ever live it down it's so so so funny
