there's a lady on the train knitting so aggressively and quickly that her needles clack like some sort of cartoon character and I am super intimidated
she smashed out a shawl in like 35 minutes and now she’s aggressively eating a sandwich. i cant
that sandwich is gone. packet of chips? gone. fuel for the knitting machine that she is. she’s at it again
Canada Day is Coming … Knit or Crochet a Mesmerizing Maple Leaf Shawl: 👉 https://wp.me/pjlln-4LR 🍁
So recently on a Zoom call, I, a knitter, was calling crocheting impossible and painful. A crocheter happened to be on the call as well and was saying that, no matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t get the hang of knitting.
Apparently, most of the people she knows who work with yarn can only do one or the other, and meeting someone who both knits and crochets is like meeting an ambidextrous person
So knitters and crocheters, reblog/reply to this with which one you are, if you can do both or not, and/or your thoughts on this “can only do one” phenomenon
I am now knitting a bunch of small frogs because I have nothing to do and I have yarn so here’s a not very detailed tutorial that no one asked for about how to make tiny knit frogs
1) Cast on 15 stitches then knit until it is 5cm long this is the body
2) Make an eye by casting on 2 stiches and knitting till you get 1.5cm then stitch that all together
3) Use a different colour yarn to make the eye itself with a finishing needle and repeat step 2 and 3 to make the second eye and stitch them to the body (add a tongue if you want at this point
4) Stitch 3 sides closed making sure to tighten the side that was on the knitting needle until it makes a circle
5) Sacrifice a pillow you made 4 years ago with a pyjama pant leg and hot glue because you don’t have stuffing
6) stuff the frog and stitch the last side closed and stuff the last bit of yarn into the frog body
And boom your very own frog friend that takes about an hour or so to make

I recently was lucky enough to visit the Susan B. Anthony house in Rochester, NY. On the historic tour, I learned about her infamous red shawl.
Since then, I’ve been trying to find or come up with a shawl pattern in honor of her efforts. Something that would incorporate her strength, persistence, and a sunflower 🌻
This is definitely a top runner. Love it.
DIY Knit Shipwreck Shawl Free Pattern
Updated 2019 - corrections to pattern
This stunning Knit Shipwreck Shawl was designed and modeled by Bethany Kok. In the post and pattern you will get detailed information on how to dye the shawl after you finish making it, and also how to place the beads in the pattern.
From Bethany Kok:
Shipwreck is true lace knitting, as pattern rows in two of the motifs are stacked without intervening “plain” knitted rows. Since the shawl is knitted circularly, however, there is never any need to purl. The right side of the work always faces the knitter, making it easy to spot mistakes. There are only seven increase rows in the entire project, and only one motif is worked at a time.
Beads are pre-strung on the yarn and knitted into the faggot lace border at random intervals, and can be omitted if desired.

“As long as there has been knitting there have been battles about it. There are self-declared “yarn snobs,” who frown on using anything but natural fibers; “gauge snobs”, who wouldn’t be caught dead with chunky yarn; and “experience snobs”, who claim you can’t declare yourself a real knitter until you abandon novelty yarns. The truth is that the knitting world is a tiny metaphor for the real world. It takes all kinds. I will not allow myself to feel bad if someone disapproves of my knitting. I will also resist the urge to stuff his mailbox full of chunky acrylic fun fur at 3:00 am.”
