Happy Cancelling The Apocalypse Day!!
time of year i remind every cane user to get an ice pick so you dont fall and die
almost biffed it in a fucking parking lot so time for me to repeat this. if you are a cane user in the northern hemisphere its time to get an ice spike coming in the mail BEFORE the ice forms.
@phantomwinds and @strawbebbynya asked in the tags if anyone had advice for winterizing a rollator walker, i dont use a rollator very often but I'd suggest using zip ties around the wheels as improv tire chains. disclaimer that ive never done this before personally but its advice ive seen wheelchair users share.
i appreciate that this is still in circulation and i can see the pre-autumn wave of reblogs picking up lol. ice pick is not a gimmick its genuinely useful and can be a life saver. every year winter reaches further towards the equator and new people are finding themselves at risk of ice with no experience for how to keep safe
If you haven't grabbed something from the Shazz Comics Close Out Sale yet but wanted to, it's the last week for orders!!! On NOVEMBER 20th I'll be closing the store and shipping everything out! A lot of things have sold out (thank you so much!!) but we still have Fat Animal Colouring Books, a stack of original art from Runewriters, RW 1 and 4, and TNH 1 and 2! More info in the original post here!
One heads up: today we discovered there was problem with TNH 4's inventory count, and it didn't get marked as Sold Out when it should've -- so unfortunately most people who ordered Book 4 will just get it refunded. I'll reach out to people who were affected to let you know what's up when we put all the orders together. But we've since gone through and double-checked and all the other inventory counts should be correct!!
SO IF U WANT A PHYSICAL COPY OF A THING FROM ME, ORDER BEFORE NOVEMBER 20th!!! Thank you all so much for the love and well-wishes and support!!
The upside is that there was an absentee ballot recount in our most populated and very blue county and it pushed us over for a blue Senate win. So yay for that because I was fucking miserable seeing the Republican win there too.
Btw, this is another reason to call your county clerk and make sure that your absentee ballot was counted! Even if we get another Trump presidency, which is very likely, those absentee ballots make a huge difference when it comes to the Senate, the House, governors, and other federal and state officials who can completely change the balance of their governments. My state's electoral votes may be going to Trump and the majority of the elections went red, but we still got a Dem Senator and that win still means a lot.
Reblogging this for the day crowd. Even if you don't think your ballot is enough to help sway the presidential election, there are still so many elections happening that CAN be changed with a recount.
Someone in the tags said that they couldn't find out the race that this was about but hoped it was true so, I'll be a bit stupid.
This post was about the Wisconsin Senate election. It was initially Eric Hovde (R) who was declared the winner and then Milwaukee did an absentee ballot recount and it put Tammy Baldwin (D) just barely over the top. This is a MASSIVE win for Wisconsin, especially with so much of the state being red, and for the rest of the country to have another Dem in the Senate. And it happened because of an absentee ballot recount.
So yeah. There is the tangible proof you need that recounts DO make a difference and are worth demanding, especially in situations where polling places were closed due to threats or a bunch of absentee ballots were conveniently declared ineligible.
Source, for those wondering! it's true!
Might be in part due to the stress but this news legit just made me cry.
yo hey US people who sent in absentee ballots, they are tossing mail-in ballots for no reason. i just had to call my county board of elections and demand a cure for my ballot because north carolina didn't send out any notices of issues with ballots, and the issues are fake. if you voted by mail-in make sure your ballot was actually counted
Check your ballot!

❗️Nevada voters - this is going to sound weird, but PICK UP YOUR PHONE if an unknown number calls.
**Lots of signatures on ballots are not matching and your ballot may need to be fixed.
TLDR; yes, signature matching is an antiquated way to verify ballots but it is still being used. Reportedly thousands of ballots here need to be cured. Answer the phone!
This is half true. It is true ballots are being thrown out. It is also true there is a way to rectify it if your ballot is affected. It is not true that answering the phone to an unknown number is the only way to do that. Here's an article with more information.
From the article, emphasis mine:
I reached out to Nevada officials to ask whether it was true, per a rumor on X, that elections workers were attempting to call those voters, as opposed to, say, texting them. Because, I have a couple of first-time voters in my own household, and those people do not pick u the phone-unless it's dad, and sometimes not even then.
A Clark County elections spokesperson assured me that elections staffers do, in fact, text voters-and call and email and even send ther notices in the mail, and then continue to do so right up to the deadline. Yet despite these efforts, she said, only about half of the rejected ballots got cured in previous elections. That could yet be significant, since Clark County still had 9,600 uncured ballots as of 4 p.m. PT. And Washoe County's website listed 1,375 still in need of curing.
You do not need to answer your phone, but you do need to be on the lookout for any correspondence.
You also need to be wary of half truths. This week there's going to be a lot of scary things in headlines, but the story is always going to be more complex than that. It is vital we all do our research when we read something that scares us. It is not as hopeless as it seems. These tweets and this post sound like if you miss one call tonight, you will lose your chance. This is not only not correct information for the voters of Nevada, but also everyone else who is anxious and nervous right now. There's a lot to be anxious and nervous about so it is so important we take every precaution to make sure we and those around us are only as anxious and nervous as we need to be, not more.
Take care of yourself and do your research!!
A reminder of how absolutely bleak it looked in the first few days of election coverage in 2020
From Washington Post [archive link because fuck Jeff]
I reblogged this last month, tagged it, and said “might as well see if it works.” I used this video as a reference to find all the forms that i needed (which is A LOT, especially if you’re a dependent) and sent them through the mail, not really allowing myself to hope.
dude.
$2,714 of medical debt from my top surgery - gone. im shaking this was such a weight on me for 2 years and it fucking worked. what the fuck.
re-reblogging and thinking about when i have another collection agency calling that i can just do this
Yo this is such good info to have
Cheers Americans, have fun with this one
I know I’ve reblogged a version of this before but bears repeating:
This dude‘s organization is called DOLLAR FOR
Here is there website where you can see if you qualify. Please check!!!
If you don’t have medical debt and want to help people reduce it. I suggest RIP MEDICIAL DEBT where you can help pay off someone else’s medical debt. You can find it here. Literally every 100 dollars donated gets rid of $10k debt.
VD: TikTok of Someone asking: “what’s a piece of information you learned that feels illegal to know?”
The video switches to @dollarfor, who speaks directly into the camera and says
“Most hospitals in America are non-profits. This means they have to have financial assistance or a Charity Care policy.
This is gonna sound weird, but what that means is that if you make under a certain amount of money, the hospital will legally have to forgive your medical bills.
Let me show you how to do this.”
Showing an image of Google, following along with their own instructions:
“Type in the hospital name and financial assistance after this. It should be the top link, let’s check.
What you want to do is look for financial assistance applications and policies, and check the policy.
From here what you’re looking for is a sliding scale. Here: from 0-300% of the federal poverty limit they will forgive 100% of your medical bills.
So you can see here that 300% of the federal poverty guidelines is 37,470. So if you make under that amount, the hospital will legally forgive your medical bills. If you’re a larger household you can check it out from here.
If you wanna test it out, I run a nonprofit that does this, so DM me and I can do it for you. I can crush those medical bills.”
end VD
ID 1: We have received and processed you request for financial assistance with your medical bills. You qualify for 100% assistance for Vanderbilt University Medical Center services covered under the Patient Assistance Program. Your account balance has been adjusted to zero.
ID 2: Account Balances showing Amount due as $0.00. VUMC Financial Assistance: Approved. /End ID
Which one are you?
The person giving away the pickle that came with their meal
The person taking the other person’s pickle
During my first staff lunch at the library, everyone got pickle spears with their sandwiches. One of the children’s librarians didn’t want hers, so I took it. And then someone else said “I don’t want mine either” and I said “gimme.” I ended up eating the equivalent of three whole pickles that day and every staff lunch after that, everyone saved me their pickles.
I am pickle queen.
What I love about this is that the results are almost 50/50. The pickle takers (of which I am also one) are matched by the pickle givers. A truly balanced social dynamic.
Given the near-even split of the poll, @kijiboop's anecdote invites the question whether or not library staff are more inclined to give away pickles rather than taking them. @certifiedlibraryposts @official-library-posts can you share around?
I...
work(ed) in a library and give away pickles
work(ed) in a library and take others' pickles
