Communities democratically divvy up socially-necessary work according to what needs to be done in a given timeframe. This isn’t that complicated. There are different schools of thought within the left, but there are many who argue that greater labor contributions to the pool should grant more labor vouchers, of which you can buy luxury items (necessities are granted to everyone universally, so that they have enough to sustain themselves). If automation supersedes most labor, as the technological trend is showing as more and more possible, then the labor calculation will become more and more obsolete anyway. The Marxist “from each according to their ability, to each according to their need” slogan becomes a concrete social reality at that point.
“Forcing” people to work ONLY 2 hour shifts is a weird way to frame your second point. Most people who work several jobs just to put the bare necessities on the table today would probably LOVE to work ONLY 2 hours per day. If you want to do more than 2 hours, I *highly* doubt anyone in a post-capitalist democracy would stop you. With that bountiful free time, you could literally just build or create or paint or perform anyway – why do we need to compel people to do these things with the threat of starvation, as under capitalism? Just do some fulfilling work after that couple hour shift ends. Your points reek of a capitalist/Protestant work ethic worldview, and it’s gross.
