tbh i think the funniest phenomena that's been happening in the last couple years is "youtuber, having gone too deep into the research hole, has been made an investigative journalist against their will"
this guy started out poking fun at australian politicians and ended up investigating the firebombing of his own home, during which he uncovered connections between the same politician he was making fun of + major organized crime
JasperDasper started out just curious why everything had suddenly become about trans people and questioning some of the sources used in a book. He came out of it, 4 years later, with a 5 hour long video that connects all transphobia to less than 60 people. (I'm not joking. literally every single transphobic rhetoric and bill passed is because of these 50 or so people.)
If you wanna watch it I cannot recommend it enough; I just warn that it covers a LOT.
has anyone mentioned wehatethecold? he was just a youtube vlogger travelling from Thailand to the UK on his motorbike and accidentally ended up in Nepal while the citizens there were overthrowing their government. he caught all of that on camera from the protestor's POV, helping eradicate any chance of the corrupted politicians turning the story against the citizens. it's super cool, and also an awesome way to see how riots and violent protests can be done properly (e.g. not harming outsiders and those not involved with the group being protested).
here's the first video by Harry documenting the riot in action. the ones after are showing the aftermath of Nepal while he works on getting out of the country and continuing his journey.

The fact that Lomeli/Lawrence, in the novel, secretly enjoys detective novels and end up as an accidental and reluctant detective, having to investigate his colleagues’ secrets during the conclave never fails to amuse me.
*slide money* Mister Harris (or Mister Berger), I need a sequel where Lomeli/Lawrence has a new case he has to investigate, with Vincent, and possibly also with Ray and Aldo (because the more the merrier)
Here’s a "fun" analysis of why Jayce’s first speech in the astral plane doesn’t work — and why so many Jayces before him have failed to convince their partner:
Viktor doesn’t care about being saved for his own sake.
And as painful as it is to admit: he doesn’t care about being loved for his imperfections.
Why do I believe this? Because the show repeatedly emphasizes what Viktor does care about — across both seasons.
And it all begins with one of the very first lines we ever hear from him, as a child in the flashback:
"Can I help?"
Later, when Viktor speaks to Heimerdinger about his impending death, what is his main concern? Not that he’s dying — but that he hasn’t done enough. That he’s only achieved figments.
When he and Jayce experiment with the Hexcore and the plants, it's Jayce who focuses on finding a cure for Viktor. Viktor, once again, talks about saving others.
I don’t even think his decision to experiment on himself with the Hexcore was ever truly about saving his own life — but rather about buying more time. Time to achieve what he hoped Hextech could accomplish for the world.
And while Viktor’s “death” technically happens in Season 1, it’s really his arc in Season 2 that made me read it this way:
Because despite everything that changes — from who he is at the beginning of the series to the moment he creates the commune — one thing doesn’t change: His utter disregard for his own well-being in the pursuit of helping others.
From the very first moment we see him use his powers, the show makes it clear: it comes at a cost. His attempt to heal ending with his legs shaking and him falling to his knees.
Singed, when he visits the commune, even talks to Viktor about his "decline," as he calls it — how his power is diminishing with every use. (Viktor answering this by asking whether he believes in fate is... interesting, but that’ll be an analysis for another time.)
And what does Viktor do? He pretty much ignores him and keeps trying — which is no different from what S1 Viktor would have done.
So, to summarize: I feel like Viktor sees his own survival as a means to an end — as if he is merely a vessel for saving others, not a person worth saving himself. His body, not as something imperfect yet beautiful (as Jayce calls it), but as an inconvenience — something that gets in the way of achieving meaningful change.
Now, I can’t tell you why Viktor sees himself that way — the show doesn’t explain it, because, as mentioned above, he already holds this mindset when we first meet him as a child.
To play armchair psychologist, I’d assume it has something to do with his loneliness, and how helping others through his mind feels like the one meaningful way he can connect with them.
And how does his relationship with Jayce play into all this?
Jayce, as stated by the writers, connects Viktor to his humanity. In this reading, I’d say: Jayce is the one thing Viktor can’t help but be selfish about.
Because when Mage Viktor saves Jayce as a child, he likely does more harm than good in many timelines. And yet — he does it anyway.
There’s no time in the show for Viktor to fully work through this issue. At best, he might have started to realize, by the end, how this approach caused more harm than good.
But I don’t think he’s anywhere near caring for himself.
That’s why Jayce’s "You always wanted to cure what you thought were weaknesses" speech “fails” — while "Because I promised you" works. I hope I’m not getting too psychological here, but I feel like for someone who’s so committed to helping others, honoring a promise is far easier for Viktor to understand than the concept of self-love.
It might even be a bit of a callback to when Sky warns him about trying to save Vander — and Viktor replies, "He is worth the risk."
I think that’s a sentiment Viktor understands deeply. And he sees it reflected back at him through Jayce in that final moment.
He can empathize with Jayce’s need to do right by him, even if he can’t yet empathize with himself.
(That part — well, that’s for all the angst-with-a-happy-ending fics to figure out).

procrastinating hard on writing my own fic so i started researching clerical clothing because i love symbolism and fashion, here are the fruits of my labour. i'm not catholic nor was i raised one so sorry for any inaccuracies, at the end of the day this is just to help people write fic. if you see any spelling mistakes though no you didn't.

biretta: square, ridged cap worn over the zuchetto. one corner has no ridge, and is always worn on the left. not actually worn in the movie, but you can see it on the way to and in the sistine chapel.

galero: scarlet wide brimmed hat with 15 tassels attached at the sides. used to be given by the pope to every newly created cardinal, but is no only made on request. the only example i can find of a modern day cardinal wearing a galero is cardinal burke, who is a mega traditionalist/conservative freak. a galero is still featured on the cardinal coat of arms however.

unlike the rest of the catholic clergy, the pope's dress isn't strictly regulated. what each pope wears varies and usually reflects their own views - e.g. pope benedict xvi wore a lot of clothes that had fallen out of use in the papacy, while pope francis refused to wear a lot of the more ornate clothing (basically, you can do what you want).

bishops and archbishops wear basically the same as cardinals, except with purple instead of red (symbolising authority i think? not as well defined as cardinal red) plus some other details.
this includes accessories like the ferraiolo. galero specifically is green with two sets of 6 tassels for bishops and 10 for archbishops.

ok so researching for monsignori is driving me up the wall. first of all mons. is not an actual role, it's an address for priests with one of 3 honourary titles (apostolistic protonotary, honourary prelate, chaplain of his holiness). second, mons. o'malley is a bishop in all but title. he dresses as a bishop, and is secretary to the dean, a role typically held by a bishop. idk man ig in the conclave-verse bishops can be monsignori, or maybe a monsignor is higher up in the catholic hierarchy than irl.

when to wear what:
liturgical vestments -> celebrating/co-celebrating the eucharist.
choir dress -> public liturgical functions that the person is not the celebrant of.
daily dress -> day to day work
informal dress -> can be worn when daily dress would be impractical, in more informal work, or when "off-duty". black or grey clothes, including a shirt that allows the priest's collar to be seen.

as for what they wear under their cassocks, i think it's just a shirt and trousers. you can see the sleeves peaking out in the movie. the only real rule is that the stockings/socks they wear should match their cassock (i.e. black in everyday, red/purple in choir dress, white for the pope). only other thing of not is that the pope typically wears white trousers, though francis wore black. anyways, [homophobic dog "i know what you are" meme]

also. this is gross. but i'm quitting smoking and what no one tells you is that for awhile, i saw some ppl online saying up to a year even, that means you're just hacking up like mucus encased tar. cuz apparently there's these hair like things called cilia in your lungs that slowly move stuff upward so you're able to cough it out, and smoking like. 24/7 365 for the past 5 years had my cilia all fucked up, so now it's finally coming back online and being like holy shit you need this out of here NOW.

hey just to update. i am hacking up tar / resin / particulate from smoking Now, it's more like floating brown bits. the thick black stuff i coughed up for the first couple of days was not tar but all the dried blood that has collected in my lungs over the past 5 years. this can also be a sign of other worse things if persistent but since my sputum is following the usual progression for quitting and my doctor put me on antibiotics for the cold/illness that made my throat hurt so bad i finally quit, i am less worried. i also have chest pain we think is from me pulling a muscle from coughing and blowing my nose so hard the past couple weeks. my doctor told me the last time she had covid she was coughing so hard she broke a rib so like. the physical pain and strain from harsh coughing is real
does anyone else think Mordecai is lonely? i know Mordecai enjoys being alone but I get the feeling like he wants a friend or something. Viktor is a good example, they were basically friends and Mordecai clearly cared for him (in his own way)
Mordecai sucks at talking to women and I think he hates it. Like he wants someone special in his life but can’t because he’s too socially awkward to actually have the ability to do it.
This comic is a great example. At first it seems like Mordecai is being sarcastic jerk, but I believe he’s actually trying to have a conversation with the lady (the one on the left) when Mordecai describes what everyone is doing he’s not being sarcastic, that’s what he genuinely thinks thats what she asked. As seen in the third picture.
now on the second part Mordecai try’s to actually dance with the girl! Of course he’s out of his comfort zone in the comic but he was willing to dance with the girl no less and I imagine he apologized to the girl for the last conversation.
I promise you if that girl wanted to talk about the importance of symmetry Mordecai would be head over heels for her. Jokes aside I think Mordecai genuinely likes the girl but he just doesn’t know how to talk to her.
another better example is the comic “Valentino”
In this comic Mordecai is trying to learn how to give “the look” which shows that Mordecai wants to learn how to talk and maybe even flirt with women, from Victor no less! I think it’s safe to assume Viktor would have no trouble finding a girlfriend and Mordecai knows that for sure! So who else would he look for advice for women than Viktor? Viktor is clearly experienced when it comes to women and it shows in this comic.
now most people think Mordecai is asexual, and that’s true but I don’t think it’s by choice, he does it because he has no other option. It’s the same as saying “I choose not to have a girlfriend” even though no girls like you. It’s a couping mechanism! Even if Mordecai doesn’t want a girlfriend it’s clear he’s at least interested in trying to figure out how to talk to them.
his awkwardness also explains why he struggles to take compliments. Mordecai gets extremely awkward when someone compliments him and I think is because he just doesn’t know how to compliment the person back. As I said he clearly wants to learn. In conclusion, I genuinely think wants a girlfriend or someone special in his life but can’t because of his own social awkwardness.
I think he is lonely, but he also genuinely dislikes being in large, noisy, disorganised crowds.
He has always been a person who divides the world into those that "count" and those that don't. The latter is a very short and exclusive list that includes his mother and sisters, Atlas and Viktor. But if you are on it, he will go to extreme, even self-destructive lengths on your behalf. So there are certain specific people he wishes to be close to and have in his life.
But a big part of his tragic story is that he keeps losing even these specific cherished people in no small part due to his own actions, which at the time he thought was for their sake. Stealing from gangsters for his poor family, which got him exiled, shooting Viktor in the knee to keep him safe, etc.
While it's an interesting interpretation, I don't get the impression he wants a girlfriend at all. He may wish he could navigate such situations in ways that don't involve hiding behind a ficus, but simply to avoid being put in mortifying situations like on that dance floor. I think any softness he shows to women extends from his close relationship from his mother and younger sisters, which may have been a factor in not shooting Ivy in the pilot
Plus, I think there is enough evidence to imply that while his lifestyle is clearly asexual, if there are any very repressed romantic/sexual feelings, it is NOT for women

ChatGPT uses so much energy that the US is literally reversing course on coal and gas usage to make up for it. In Santa Clara, for example, data centers used 60% of the ENTIRE CITY'S electricity.
ChatGPT uses 1-3 bottles of water for cooling for every query you put into it. This is FRESH WATER, which is evaporated and eventually mostly returns to the ocean, effectively removing a lot of it from our already dwindling fresh water supply on the planet. It also consumes 17 THOUSAND TIMES more electricity than the average American home.
The AI boom wastes so much electricity that we are very immediately risking US cities having to have rolling blackouts just to keep up with the energy demands, as early as NEXT YEAR

More AI use = more data centers = power drain on local cities = gas, electricity, and water utility prices rise because all of our resources are being funneled into a machine that makes garbage
