Rainbow Connection: On Romance
I think we can all admit that shipping is a pretty big part of the RWBY fandom, and most fandoms in general but I digress, and I want to talk a little bit about what I plan to do shipping wise for this project.
First things first, I do plan on having some romance arcs. Though this is primarily going to be focused on the wider action/adventure plotline and not romance. Though I'll probably throw in a few side fluff pieces focusing more on the romance once we finally get to them.
As a rule, I'm going to keep any sort of "established" romantic dynamics. At least those that were present in the Beacon era. So, Pyrrha's crush on Jaune, Jaune's crush on Weiss, and Weiss & Neptune's thing for example. For the one's that were established after the Beacon era, I may or may not use them too. Since we're going to be spending 3 years at Beacon, those one's kind of just... might not make sense at that point.
Also, I'm getting rid of the romantic relationship between Adam and Blake because I don't care for it and I don't think it adds enough for me to want to keep it in. But I'll probably go into more detail on that in my future "On Adam" post.
That being said, most every pre-established romantic relationship will be kept. So, Ghira/Kali, Ilia's crush on Blake, Tai/Raven, etc.
Though importantly, I'm also going to maintain a rule of no romantic relationship being established, or really having their arcs truly begin, within the 1st year of the story. There a few reasons I'm doing this, the main being that I want to focus on really establishing the story and characters before everyone starts kissing. And, as I've said before, I believe a well excluded romance arc is something you kind of have to earn, and the best way to do that in an ensemble story like RWBY is to let the romance that it's time.
So, do I have any plans for which relationships will happen between our main characters? Only for two, but we'll talk about that later. I want to build a foundation for the relationships between each of these characters and kind of let them develop naturally from there. And, if I ever do manage to get someone else to join this project with me, then I would obviously like their opinions on that.
Also I'm indecisive and like too many ships to not consider a lot of them.
That being said, which are the two ships that will be end game? Lancaster and Hummingbird. The obvious is obvious and will continue to be so.
But I think I've covered just about everything I wanted to here, so I'll end it here.
