The new Odyssey adaptation has inevitably gotten people talking about a Muppet version of it, and they’re frequently suggesting Kermit as Odysseus, Miss Piggy as Penelope.
I’m sorry but that’s thinking way too small, hear me out:
We need to have Miss Piggy as Odysseus, and Kermit as Penelope.
Think about it… who’s the more fickle, prideful, warlike one in that relationship? Who is absolutely ready to go ham, at a moment’s notice?
It ain’t Kermit
Miss Piggy tied to the mast while Statler and Waldorf heckle her from the sea
But who is the single human cast member in this tale? Who gets to put in an Oscar-worthy performance alongside the Muppets and what role are they to play?
There’s no single human, everyone is a Muppet except for one scene. Circe, played by Janice, turns Odysseus’s crew into humans who still behave animalistic and are all played by Academy Award winning actors.
You know how we call things "pseudoscience"... the media analysis that's being done on twitter and tumblr should be pseudohumanities
"racism is nowhere near as bad in the uk as the united states" then Why do you people have race riots everytime a nonwhite person is suspected of a crime
I think a lot of people in both the US and Europe believe that racism isn’t racism if it’s against immigrants and religious minorities. Hence people insisting that the anti-immigrant pogroms and riots are fine, because they’re not not about race, they’re about “criminals crossing the borders”, or that the wave of anti-Sikh hate crimes up and down the UK and the Islamophobic hate crime waves coming constantly aren’t about race, they’re about “religious extremism”.
They use these two topics in particular get used to launder racial violence over and over again and have for years.
It's this. I've had Europeans tell me that they don't have an issue with Romani people because of their ethnicity but because of their behavior, which is of course in line with all of the worst stereotypes about Romanis, but don't worry, it's not racism.
I tried to explain that this is what people say about racial minorities here in the US but it generally doesn't go over well.
Canadians are guilty of this too. People don't see as much racism/overt violence against black people, and so obviously racism isn't a problem here, right?
Except it is - there is still police violence and discrimination against black people in Canada, as well as racism and discrimination against Indigenous groups, newcommers, and anyone who isn't seen as white enough or has an accent. It's always worse, of course, toward visible POC, but I've also heard xenophobic remarks about immigrants from Ukraine and other white European countries.
getting emotional over this meme
I love Deep Cut but can we all agree they lost that beef

June and July are the same months btw. They want you to think they're two different months but it's the same month that's 60 days long. Same way August is actually August and the first half of September
Btw when critics say "this is fetishistic" we don't just mean, i think the author was writing this one-handed
A "fetish" can be when you fixate unduly on an object and end up worshiping the object rather than what it represents or what it's made up of, so your fixation bears no fruit
It's not really a problem if an author gets off on what they're writing, the author's feelings about a subject aren't inherently an obstacle
But treating a specific theme or topic as one-note, so that your portrayal of it is one-dimensional and unnuanced? That IS an artistic obstacle
So when we say that an author's portrayal of women is fetishistic, for example, it's that they're reduced to their sexual appeal and lack depth as characters, or only serve aesthetic or shallow emotional purposes within a given text, and THAT's the problem, not whether or not they're hot
This comment was left on a post about making the most of the Libby app. "Excessive use of generous lending policies" is the most absurd phrase I've ever seen anyone use to discuss libraries.
evergreen
I think you guys constantly undermine the exploitation and colonial abuse that Hawaiʻi and Polynesia endures. i promise you indigenous polynesians aren't focused on being excited about representation in the live action moana they're much more concerned by the disney tourism propaganda they've been constantly pushing in their slop movies
I love Binface so much.
Legit the grass has been scorched all the way down to bare soil here, and there's dust hanging in the air. I moved from an arid part of the US, and it's starting to look like a desert here, it's fucked, send help.
The UK is not supposed to be arid.
oh my god you’re on the uk? I’m sorry
