For a Test
Jaune was strolling down the academy hallway, enjoying his free time — until a certain little red hood appeared.
Ruby (smiling): Hey, Jaune!
Jaune (smiling back): Hey, Ruby!
Ruby: I have something to ask. We're best friends, right?
Jaune: Of course, the best in the world! What's going on?
Ruby winced ever so slightly at that.
Ruby: So, you know how people do certain things as a test — like getting a small pet to test their sense of responsibility?
Jaune: Okay… where are you going with this?
Ruby (slightly nervous): Well, the thing is — what if we had a test baby together, so that in the future we'd know what to do when we each find our other half? What do you say?
Jaune (seeing absolutely no scheme whatsoever): Sure, why not.
Years later…
Jaune is sitting in the living room taking care of his sixth test child. Ren is sitting beside him.
Jaune: After that we had a test wedding, went on test dates, bought a house, and that was… five years ago now.
Ren (skeptical): Don't you think Ruby did all of this on purpose to be with you?
Jaune (laughs ironically): Hahaha, me and Ruby? That super cool, beautiful huntress who deserves someone so much better than me? Yeah right, as if that's what's happening.
Ren glances past Jaune and sees Ruby caring for their children with genuine, undisguised love and contentment, gently rubbing her pregnant belly.
Ren (stares at Jaune blankly): You can't be serious.
